Moorhen Cottage was spotlessly clean and warm and cosy. It was very well equipped and had everything we needed and more. It was winter when we stayed so the outside area wasn't too important to us but the cottage is at the bottom of a steep slope and it is a little overlooked by the road into the site and by other lodges. The garden is open to a footpath at the front and at the back it has a gate on to a residential road. The hot tub sits next to the path running to two other lodges so is quite exposed. It wasn't what I had imagined but once in the cottage with the curtains closed it didn't matter and when in the hot tub we chatted to the other guests passing by. I wouldn't let this put you off as the cottage is lovely and offers a lot of space for a bigger group / family.

Fantastic break away, very remote and secluded, everything we could have wished for

Love it here. So peaceful and spacious. Lodge is a little tired, but very clean. Grounds are a big adventure playground for the little ones!

We had a great weekend here and the location for getting out and about by car in North Wales is very good. There is a craft/gift/antique centre with popular coffee shop just a five minute stroll away in Afonwen and the main village of Caerwys is about 25 mins away by nearby footpath. It wouldn't be possible to navigate this footpath at night and the route by road to/from Caerwys is treacherous on foot with no lighting, blind bends and no pavement. Caerwys has a couple of pubs and a number of historic buildings that make for a pleasant afternoon wander. The retreat is on the site of an old quarry with each lodge individually placed so as to offer some privacy and views of one of two lakes. It is fairly picturesque. I wouldn't say it was particularly suitable for dogs as there are geese and ducks about and the lodges don't have fenced off areas where a dog could be let out freely. I would also worry about very young children because of the lakes and the layout as there isn't a field or anywhere they could play freely but securely. For a group of adults or families with older children it is a great place to get away.

We stayed in one of the skylark pods. It was lovely. Very clean. Bit on the small side - but that was expected. Lovely surroundings. Staff were very friendly and helpful
Gail
Many years ago we had a caravan on this site so this was a walk down memory lane for us. I booked this as a surprise "big birthday" treat for my husband (and myself)! It was fabulous, Naomi, Jo and Lynn were really friendly and helpful. We will be making this an annual trip from now on. The lodge had everything we needed and then some, also it was spotless. Thanks for everthing. Gail & Les. x
Charlotte
Lovely place! Been here twice now and would defo return. Nice local pubs, lovely walks and a few nice beaches in 30 min drive. Rooms are decorated to high standard and very clean. We took our two dogs and was provided with blankets and towels for them, which was also very handy. 5*

Very good weekend away
Milena
There was everything we needed, ladies who run the place were helpful. Just the price is a bit high for young people however its worth it ! The hot tubes are great.
