About Rutland Escape Lodges

Ranksborough Hall Lodges make a fantastic holiday destination if you're looking for relaxation and a beautiful setting.  Ranksborough Hall itself was built in 1893 for Lord Ranksborough who was equerry to Queen Victoria.  A huge 50 acres of parkland surround the hall and make a glorious setting for holiday homes and lodges.  The charming village of Langham is on the doorstep with two ancient local pubs and an easy stroll from the lodges.

The county of Rutland is a real gem with local villages, medieval castles, museums, galleries, shops and gardens.  Not to mention an array of fabulous eateries.  This county has been described as "the Cotswolds without the crowds" and we would definitely agree with that!

There is a wide selection of holiday homes ranging from lodges to courtyard apartments.  We love the West Wing which is a large three storey apartment within Ranksborough Hall itself.  It sleeps up to 10 so ideal for larger groups, and it has the added bonus of enclosed garden with outdoor hot tub.  The Retreat Spa Lodge 2 is also an excellent choice with a modern interior, open plan living space, amazing countryside views and decking area with hot tub.

"Excellent Break . Will use again IT is good to find the property is well suited for disable person."
Shantilal - Jul 2018
"There were a few things in the lodge that didn't work and that were not fixed during our stay.
Lots of light bulbs out including in one of the bedrooms leaving no light at all in that room after dark.
Fridge Freezer not working - another was brought into the living area but this was small and not ideal as a long way from the kitchen area.

None of these things were rectified during our stay.

I would like to suggest also that some basic instruction guides would be really useful in the lodge regarding using the Cooker/oven, Microwave in particular. In the long run i'm sure it would help because i bet that staff get called when people can't work it out.

I would stress that NONE of these things spoilt our stay."
Ros - Jul 2018
"Lovely cosy lodge, simple but had little touches to make it feel like home! Just a tip - turn the hot tub on as soon as you get there as will take until next morning to heat up! Lovely little lodge."

Jack - Jul 2017
"Great, spacious accommodation perfect fir a family break. Plenty of room for 9 adults and 2 babies. Air hockey did not work but did not bother us. Could do with a little updating but great value break"
Zena - May 2017
"We stayed in the West Wing of Rutland hall for my husbands surprise 50th birthday. The house was plenty big enough for 9 of us and the kitchen was very well equipped.
The area is lovely and we walked into Oakham over the fields and then back via the main road.
The garden is small but ample however, the grass could have done with being cut. Another bench or a table and chairs would have been useful as there was only one picnic bench and not enough room for 9 people. We had great weather so spend a lot of time in the garden when at the property.

Overall, we had a great weekend and would definitely return."
Katie - May 2017
"We had a really pleasant week in the Hall Apartment. It is an apartment consisting of an enormous lounge with dining table too, a small but servicable kitchen, a very large bedroom (with the biggest bed we've ever slept in!) with ensuite. The Ensuite has both shower and roll top bath. There is a rear door to a private garden, which is where the hottub is located. There is also a hallway and a second toilet.

The building, Ranksborough Hall, is 19th century is quite striking. The apartment is full of little quirks and period features which remind you of its age. It has clearly been refurbished a few years ago (2011 ish, we reckon) with some reproduction features put in too. The whole effect works very well and the apartment was very comfortable. However, as some people have been a bit overly critical in stating, there are parts that are looking a little tired. Most of these, though, appear to be either original features or at least with good age. For example, the rear door has to be shut with a 'knack' - yes, cos its clearly at least 70 years old. Why not, its an old house. There are a few little bits that could do with tidying up, and that is the only reason for my 9/10 on the overall rating.

There is a good sized TV (32" ish?), a DVD player, washing machine, dishwasher and everything you need. The TV signal for BBC1 and 2 can be a bit hit and miss - but other channels are OK and apart from putting in a Satellite system I am not sure what they would be able to do about it - its just where they are.

We would happily stay here again, we really enjoyed having the hottub and the staff were very friendly."
