Avon Wood is a small and peaceful park offering the perfect setting for a relaxing or romantic holiday. The location is simply stunning and the lodges are nestled deep within natural woodland. Just a short downhill stroll will bring you to the shores of the beautiful Lake Windermere where there are boat launching facilities. Although the lodges feel very secluded they are not too isolated and the lively village of Bowness is just 5 miles away.  Avon Wood is an ideal base for touring the National Park, visiting stately homes and shopping in market towns. There is also an on site Launderette.

Accommodation at Avon Wood is in caravans or lodges. The Ambleside retreat lodge is perfect for a couple with one double bedroom, private hot tub and complimentary wine and chocolates on arrival. The Retreat Lodge is a good choice for two couples with two double bedrooms and patio with hot tub. The Blakeholm lodge is a good option for families with three bedrooms and furnished patio. Absolutely amazing place for a few days away. Really easy to find, loads of lovely walks in the area. You will need to drive if you want to access shops and stuff, but for what we needed, it was everything we were looking for. The kitchen is amazing, we had all the facilities we needed. The bedroom is really lovely and airy, and you have gorgeous views from the terrace area. We will definitely be returning. Thank you for an amazing stay for our first wedding anniversary.
Claire
Amazing long weekend, beautiful views and location, private hot tub was lovely, would definitely recommend.
Claire
Fabulous holiday. Very secluded and close to Lake.
Ashley
Went here for my partners 40th birthday to relax , what a beautiful place to stay , very friendly people. The hot tub was fabulous , everything you needed in the lodge was there even down to skewers for the BBQ . Had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back again. The fighter planes flying low over lake Windermere was an added bonus. Couldn't ask for a more comfortable peaceful holiday, would highly recommend to anyone.
Kevin
Exactly as the brochure described and more. Had everything provided, spotlessly clean & hot tub put the icing on the cake.
Graham
Very quiet location, and excellent base for travelling around the Lake District. We plan to return.

We had a great holiday at Avon Wood. It was just as we had hoped it would be in a beautiful location and only a ten min drive from Bowness. The staff Christine and Andy were helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

Fun Days Out near Avon Wood

Lakeland's Wildlife Oasis - about 10 Miles
Here at the Wildlife Oasis you can really get up close to the animals and experience a mix of exotic wildlife and hand son displays.  See butterflies, birds and even bats flying around.  You don't have to plan your visit according to weather either with the tropical hall and butterfly house undercover.  Sunny days are ideal for some of the inhabitants however with the monkeys and Lemurs loving to sunbathe.  The mission of Lakeland's Wildlife Oasis is to engender and foster an interest and appreciation of the natural world which, in our belief underpins wildlife conservation; and, where possible to contribute and encourage contribution to the conservation of wildlife and wild places.  You know that you are helping with this mission if you choose to visit.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - about 10 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - about 10 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - about 13 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
