Herdwick Croft Reviews

"A lovely break , peaceful location"
Verified Guest - Mar 2024
"Lovely place to stay, lovely views"
Verified Guest - Mar 2024
"A lovely lodge with modern decor and comfortable furnishings. Could just do with a top up of some of the crockery/cutlery (e.g. only 3 bowls for a family of 4)."
Stephen - Mar 2024
"The lodge was not luxury and lack of storage for food, no mirrors apart from the bathroom cabinets."
Cazzie - Mar 2024
"Lovely lodge, a few things would make it better, like dressing gowns, slippers and a cover/canopy over the hot tub so you can go in no matter what the weather!"
Samantha - Mar 2024
"Lovely lodge with stunning furnishings. Hot tub was amazing. The lodge was immaculate"
Emma - Mar 2024
"Accommodation was immaculate,"
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
"Amazing lodge, beautiful scenery and welcoming staff. Will definitely be returning ????"
Margaret - Feb 2024
"Fabulous stay, beautiful lodge and holiday park, so peaceful and quiet. Will definitely return and would highly recommend."
Lea - Jan 2024
"Our stay has been really relaxing it was a shame we couldnt do much due to our little one being very poorly but it was exactly what we needed staying in a cosy relaxing environment away from everything and Crummock provided that I want to book again and kind of make it into a thing we do as family get away to relax but this time do some walking ahah"
Diana - Jan 2024
"We so enjoyed our stay at Wast Water Lodge. The lodge is to a very high standard and the hot tub was a nice added bonus. Champagne in the hot tub on Christmas morning was idyllic. There was also a small Christmas tree added and the chocolates left were a lovely touch. Whilst we were there we visited the Lakes Distillery for a tour which was only 5/10 minutes walk away. We had drinks at the beautiful Armathwaite Hall, again about a 10 minute walk away. We had takeaway pizzas from the on site Bistro. These were soo good. Wish we could have stayed longer."
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Best Christmas yet! Lovely lodge, very clean and served its purpose. Will definitely be returning."
Jamie lee - Dec 2023
"We just got back on Friday from a 4 night stay at Herwicke Croft. We stayed in the new pod Herdwicke Retreat. What an absolutely stunning pod / lodge in the most picturesque location. Ive seen a couple of reviews saying you dont have privacy in the hot tub & there isnt any shower gel / shampoo in the bathroom.. let me tell you this really isnt a big issue at all. The hot tub is tucked away into the corner and is private if you sit on the far side. And regarding the other issue. Take your own shampoo and shower gel, rather simple fix. Without a doubt the best little British break we have had! And wouldnt hesitate to book again."
Sam - Nov 2023
"Fantastic lodge"
Caroline - Nov 2023
"A beautiful lodge, with a great view and private hot tub. It still looks like a brand new lodge and was spotlessly clean."
Verified Guest - Nov 2023
"Lovely holiday home in beautiful surroundings! We stayed in Hawkshead lodge and hot tub had a great view of Skiddaw (only downside was rules said no bubbles after 10.30!). Unfortunately no TV in bedroom as advertised and a shame there wasnt a little welcome pack on arrival. The on-site restaurant was lovely, although unfortunately opening times were limited during the week."
Verified Guest - Nov 2023
"This is a lovely lodge however it is over looked by the cottage. The accommodation it's self is lovely but has NO privacy at all. There is no blinds or curtains on the kitchen / lounge area. NO privacy on hot tub area either very over looked by the holiday cottage. The pod has a complicated hob and microwave/oven but instructions leaflets we eventually found were in the draw. The pub has limited opening times and has a limited supply in the small shop area. We didn't find any walks nearby although the site is quite near lake bassenthwaite which was lovely. The lodge has an iron and toaster and a kettle and also a large fridge and a wine cooler. It also has a TV and a netflix app if you choose to use it."
Lynn - Nov 2023
"Me, my wife and our cavapoo stayed here for 3 nights, cant speak more highly of the place, excellent! Location is out of this world. Its quiet and peaceful, but it is in a very good location for all the main walks and things to do close by. The lodge itself was amazing, made us feel like we didnt want to go home. Only slight disappointment was that the cafe/bistro on site dont allow dogs inside, but I believe they are a separate company to the actual site itself. Overall amazing stay 10/10"
Greg - Oct 2023
"We had a excellent holiday location was great lovely place to stay not to far to travel to different locations every day, hot tub was great lodge was clean and tidy would definitely go back."
Alan - Oct 2023
"Brilliant lodge very clean and lovely hot tub. Well set out and comfortable beds and great shower .Only thing I would change is a TV in the main bedroom."
James - Jul 2023
"This park is wonderful and the staff are lovely. Our issue was with the lodge. We stayed in the Wastwater lodge which was brand new and is advertised as in a private location in the corner of the park. The lodge is more like a luxury caravan, it is immaculate and comfortable but it isnt as nice as other lodges we have stayed in before. The bed for example feels like a pull down caravan bed and wasnt very comfortable. Our issue was with privacy- the whole reason we booked this lodge was it said it was private - it wasnt. You are surrounded from all sides by other lodges and the hot tub is raised on the decking so there is no privacy at all as you can see into all other lodges and they are close together. The location is good for the lakes but if your looking for privacy this is not the lodge for you"
Michelle - Jul 2023
"Buttermere is located at the top of the park and away from the tourers. The lodge had everything we needed including dishwasher, washer, iron and best of all hot tub! Wrap around decking is great and gets the sun all day. Lodge has 2 bathrooms also which was perfect when staying as a family."
Collette - Jun 2023
"Our party of 4 stayed in the gorgeous Minster Lodge, the lodge itself was absolutely stunning and immaculately clean and to say the views are breathtaking is an absolute understatement!

We were left in blissful peace by the site owners who ensured we had everything we needed for our stay before handing over the keys and promptly heading back at the end of our stay to further ensure everything was to our enjoyment - which it very much was!

Excellent and discreet private hot tub cleaning each morning (you'd never even know they were there) and we'll definitely be visiting Herdwick Croft again in the future.

Couldn't recommend enough.

All our thanks, Shannon & Party!"
Shannon - Jan 1970
"The lodge we stayed in was just beautiful, had everything we needed, and the added bonus of the hot tub made it special. We will certainly return and recommend to Friends& Family."
Christopher - Jan 1970
"Lovely accommodation (everything as per pictures)."
Angela - Jan 1970
"Great weekend away and loved that it was only a 2 minute drive from Bassenthwaite Lake. Lodge was beautiful, pet friendly and had amazing views! Cupcakes on arrival were a lovely touch also! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing get away!"
Leah - Jan 1970
"Really nice only issue was lack of a dog gate on the decking everything else was great"
Tracy - Jan 1970
"The lodge was great, clean , smart, the decking area and hot tub were lovely. Loved that it was dog friendly.
Only downside was no towels provided."
Lindsay - Jan 1970
"The lodge was immaculate, small but perfectly formed with a good amount of storage. Decor is lovely and it was really clean. A king size width bed was welcome in the main bedroom, although if you are tall be warned as it's a bit shorter than a standard bed! My only slight gripe was that the hot tub was drained and refilled at around 7.30am on departure day, and because they use the hot feed off the lodge boiler this meant there wasn't enough water pressure for a shower before we left. Also, it's not in the details but it would have been useful to know in advance that there was a Tassimo coffee machine in the lodge as then we could have brought with us the right pods to use in that."
Alice - Jan 1970
"Excellent accommodation. Warm, high quality, clean and comfortable.
The only minor criticism is the accommodation could do with extra cutlery, crockery, glasses, mugs, pots and pans. Sleeps 4 but only provide 4 of everything which means if you are doing any cooking you constantly have to wash as you prepare and serve food."
Michael - Jan 1970
"Beautiful caravan (Buttermere) and great location, very close to Lake which is walking distance. No shop onsite, and very little restaurant options for dinner in walking distance, still need the car. (Family of 4)"
Vari - Aug 2022
"We loved our stay. Our dog loved it too and never normally settles when we’re away but she was right at home! The decked area was secure with a gate which made our lives so much easier! Clean, spacious, great location, lovely hot tub we will definitely be back!"
Emily - Aug 2022
"Excellent 3 night stay in the Buttermere lodge. Nice and quiet even though it was weekend. We didn't use the car at all as there's plenty to do within walking distance, and it was lovely to get in the hot tub in the evening. We'll definitely be back."
Joanne - Jul 2022
"We loved our time at this lodge - spacious, decorated to a very high standard, quiet and not too far a drive to Keswick. The lodge was stunning and we received a very warm welcome from Laura and Dave Would definitely recommend."
Shona - Jul 2022
"Had amazing week (from 8th July 22) staying in "Buttermere Lodge". We had been searching for the perfect place to bring our dog. We have found a gem of a place. The holiday park is ideally located between Keswick and Cockermouth. And near the beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake. Our accommodation was modern, clean .... just perfect. It had everything you need for a self catering place. Supermarkets are in Cockermouth so we got stocked up. The on site guys, Laura and Dave were on hand if you needed them, and so friendly and helpful. We loved the hot tub!. We are going to book for next year. For anyone visiting, look after the accommodation and keep it nice for every visitor. Herdwick Croft is currently building a bistro at the front which will be an added bonus. There are lovely walks to go on around the site if you have a dog (or not). I would not hesitate to recommend Herdwick Croft lodges. Can't wait to come back! Obviously we weren't there to camp so cannot comment on the site or facilities (although the site where the caravans, tents were, looked nice). Some earlier reviews may say towels weren't provided. They were!. Although take your own for the hot tub. The lodge even had a washer/dryer, iron, small ironing board, clothes airer, hairdryer, and fully equipped kitchen. It was perfect!"
Kirsty - Jul 2022
"excellent lodge nice and quiet location with plenty nearby activities staff really friendly will definitely go back"
George - Jun 2022
"Gorgeous place nestled in between one of the lakes and a distillery. Great for walkers and other lakes within 20/30 min drive."
Kelly - Jun 2022
"Really enjoyed our holiday at herwick croft, the lodge was immaculate and had great views over skiddaw. Hot tub was brilliant too. Staff were friendly."
Reece - Jun 2022
"Lovely stay at herdwick Croft. Perfect location for visiting local attractions. Nearest shop is a 10 minute drive. The only recommendation I would have would be to supply more toilet rolls, bin bags and dishwasher tablets as only 1 supplied for a weeks stay. Also some small toiletries in the bathroom would be handy as no hand wash was supplied."
Zoe - Jun 2022
"Great location and accommodation was very comfortable - no issues. We enjoyed the hot tub which was clean and well maintained. Would definitely return."
Nicholas - Jun 2022
"It was wonderful - thank you for having us. See you next year!"
Victoria - Jun 2022
"Herdwick Croft is a lovely quiet site, with beautiful surroundings. It sits on the edge of Bassenthwaite Lake and it is just a short walk down to the water. There isn’t any restaurant/bar on site yet, however it is in the process of being built. There were recommendations of places to eat and drink within a short walk or drive so that wasn’t an issue for us. I can definitely recommend The Wheatsheaf Inn, the food was fantastic!"
Claudia - Jun 2022
"Lovely small park set with gorgeous views"
Susan - Jun 2022
"Stayed at the buttermere lodge for 7 nights and will definitely be returning to herdwick Croft in the future. The lodge and hot tub were clean and in good condition. The surrounding areas were stunning with a short drive to Keswick and beautiful walks. Perfect for couples, families and dogs."
Carl - May 2022
"Loved the Crummock Vip it had everything we needed. Nice quiet location but also close to places we wanted to visit. Staff on the site were very helpful and only a txt away if needed. Will be nice when the bistro/bar is finished which im sure we will be back to enjoy."

Attractions Near Herdwick Croft

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Herdwick Croft. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 0 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 14 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 18 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 18 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 28 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 33 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 35 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 38 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
