Ullswater Heights

Cumbria » Greystoke, Nr Penrith

Ullswater Heights is a gorgeous collection of lodges and unique safari tents just 6.5 miles from Ullswater.  The accommodation is both spacious and stylish with the safari tents really taking luxury glamping to the next level.

Ullswater itself has long been a favourite for tourists to the Lake District and is without doubt one of the most beautiful area.  You can stroll around the lake on foot or take a ride on an Ullswater Steamer.  There are also plenty of watersports to enjoy.   You'll find some lovely pubs and restarurants nearby as well as the charming village of Greystoke.

Some of the rarest wildlife in the UK can be seen in this area including red deer, red squirrels and peregerine falcons.

We love the Contemporary 4 View Lodge which offers amazing views over the quarry lake.  The lodge is spacious and luxurious with a fantastic outdoor decking area housing garden furniture and a bubbling outdoor hot tub.  The interior design and finishing touches are outstanding.  The Contemporary 6 lodge is also a lovely option and pet friendly too!

For a really unique holiday experience the safari tents are brilliant!  The Safari Tent Simplex sleeping 6 has one double bedroom, one twin and one ladder from the living room leading to a double cabin bed which kids will love!

The safari tents have a real sense of adventure about them with their canvas tops and yet have all the luxuries of the lodges.  They also come with outdoor hot tubs, ideal for relaxing and taking in the views.  The Safari Tent Duplex offers more space and can sleep up to 8 guests.

For days out you could head to Carlisle Castle which is a magnificent sight full of history.  Mirehouse and Gardens in Keswick are also a great place to visit with access to Bassenthwaite Lake, walled garden, maze and adventure playgrounds for the little ones

Well appointed lodges with great hot tub provided a very relaxing base for our mid-week break at the northern Lake District near Penrith. A new site (2019), sensitively created to compliment the landscaping of the old quarry surrounding the lake. Staff very friendly and welcoming and the site was clean and well laid out with a friendly on-site pub/restaurant with a reasonably priced menu overlooking the lake. The small petting farm was a lovely addition. A great location for exploring the Northern Lake District.

The lodge itself was lovely, nice & modern. Home from home. Very warm didnt really need the heating on much. Kitchen area great could have done with some pans/frying pan being provided to cook tho, had to do breakfast in the oven. Information booklet could have been more informative about how to use the hot tub, fire etc. WiFi was great had Netflix on constantly.

Great value for money. The kitchen supplies being already all there helped with us having a less jammed car and made for an easier holiday with less stress. We thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation and made great use out of everything there. The fireplace was a great addition considering how cold it was over our stay and it helped warming us up after getting out the hot tub.

Lodge was lovely very clean, well equipped, beds and bedding very comfortable.
Two towels per person would have been nice for separate hot tub or shower use, but this is a minor detail. Over all very happy with accommodation.

Stayed in one of the glamping tents and it was great. Good location and plenty of places within the lakes to visit within driving distance. Surprised how warm you can get the tent. Our coldest night was 3 degrees but still managed to keep fairly warm, but you'll need to keep the log burner going at these temperatures to keep it warm. If we were to be fussy, the beds are fairly uncomfy and the tents are set to close to each other as you can sometimes hear conversations in the tent next door. Also the tent wasn't entirely clean when we arrived but we not the type to complain over minor flaws.

Im not sure if I would return, having the lodges so close to one another did put me off, I felt I couldnt go outside without chit chat, I do love the area which is stunning, but just a long way to Penrith for essentials.
A wee shop wouldnt go a miss..

We were very happy with our recent stay at Ullswater Heights. When we arrived, our lodge was not yet ready due the bad weather, so we were taken to the pub onsite for a drink on the house. The staff were very helpful and the overall stay was brilliant. The lodge was clean and we enjoyed the atmosphere and the views in the pub. We would definitely recommend

I can't fault the lodge interior which was beautifully decorated to an incredibly high standard. The attention to detail in the decor was exceptional and some of the best we've experienced in lodge parks.

However, there were a few things that we noticed that would make the stay even better for individuals in the future:

- Shower squeegees (you have lovely shower screens but nothing to dry them with)
- Hooks to hang dressing gowns on while people are in the hot-tubs. Every other park we have visited has had this simple way of keeping towels and gowns dry.
- Just a bit more crockery. Even though the lodge slept 4, it's rare you only need to use 4 of each item. It would be good to perhaps have 6 forks, knives etc.

The ashtray had also not been emptied from the previous guests and the toilet brush was filled with water - not a pleasant sight.

Furthermore, we opened the door of the lodge to be greeted by a wave of heat - the heating was on full blast and it took the remainder of the day for it to cool down. Unfortunately, the bedroom windows open far too wide with no locking feature which meant I didn't feel comfortable leaving them open during the night.

The only other issue was that the bed was a double but with a king-sized duvet. It's a pet hate of mine as they are particularly cumbersome when not matched to their same bed size. Nevertheless, the bed itself was very comfortable with good quality linen.

We also understand that the hot-tub water needs to be checked daily, however it was incredibly awkward when I was enjoying the hot-tub and my partner was sunbathing and we were interrupted by the gentleman who was testing the water. It would be better if staff looked for vehicles outside lodges before entering.

Finally, I was a little disappointed that I had paid extra for a Contemporary 4 'View' lodge, only to find the view of the lake obstructed by the building of even more lodges. Thankfully not all of them had been erected yet so we could still see the lake if we turned our heads. However, had the other lodges been built when we arrived, I would've popped back to reception to complain.

Date of stay: 20th September 2019
lodges very clean spotless in fact but clinically so could do with some pictures on walls to make it feel a bit more homely
no shop could do with one though they do put a few essentials in the lodge-like washing up liquid tea towel dishwasher tablets liquid soap and a bottle of milk in the fridge
restaurant very good had a lovely breakfast and lunch did not use it in the evening so don't know about evening meals
dogs welcome all areas
