Avon Wood is a small and peaceful park offering the perfect setting for a relaxing or romantic holiday. The location is simply stunning and the lodges are nestled deep within natural woodland. Just a short downhill stroll will bring you to the shores of the beautiful Lake Windermere where there are boat launching facilities. Although the lodges feel very secluded they are not too isolated and the lively village of Bowness is just 5 miles away.  Avon Wood is an ideal base for touring the National Park, visiting stately homes and shopping in market towns. There is also an on site Launderette.

Accommodation at Avon Wood is in caravans or lodges. The Ambleside retreat lodge is perfect for a couple with one double bedroom, private hot tub and complimentary wine and chocolates on arrival. The Retreat Lodge is a good choice for two couples with two double bedrooms and patio with hot tub. The Blakeholm lodge is a good option for families with three bedrooms and furnished patio. All of the lodges have well equipped kitchens and TV/DVD player.

Fun Days Out in Cumbria

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
