Top Attractions To Visit on your Getaway to Leicestershire

Whether you’re packing up and heading off for the weekend, a romantic lodge retreat for two, or something special for the family, there’s an awesome array of things to do on for any age group. Here are some more good reasons to book a cabin in Leicestershire.

  1. The National Space Centre is an absolutely huge exhibition on, you guessed it, all things to do with space and space. Travel up a 42-metre high rocket tower and blast off into space in the space theatre.
  2. go bonkers at Conkers – Another brilliant family or couple day out is Conkers. There are loads to do including woodside walks, a train, and adventure play parks that children will absolutely love. There’s also plenty of indoor fun if it’s raining (which never happens, of course…)
  3. Twycross Zoo is one of the best zoos in the UK and has the kinds of animals you’d normally find in more far-flung locations. From Rhino’s to Tigers, and everything in between. This conservation-friendly zoo is well worth a trip for families and couples. Spend the day there – there’s a lot to get through. Or go for one of their Safari Sleepovers. Just don’t sneak any penguins back to your Jacuuzi. It’s sort of against the rules.
  4. A popular stop-off for anyone with kids is definitely TwinLakes park. There are events all year round at this theme park/farm with rides, roller coasters, log flume and loads more. Try your hand at some escape games!
  5. Great Central railways – Britain’s only double track main line steam railways, no less – offers a more sedate trip away from your log cabin. Soak in some retro transport vibes and enjoy a relaxing trip starting at Loughborough station. You’ll see gorgeous trains waiting here from a bygone era.

Towns and cities to visit

  • Hinckley – An attractive market town that is also a good base to explore the famous site of the battle of Bosworth.
  • Melton Mowbray – Melton goes back to the 1100s and makes for a great family day out. Explore this scenic area and learn about its rich history. Sample some of the famous pork pies and stilton.
  • Market Harborough – A charming market town that was voted one of the best places to live in the county! Full of history, culture, and delicious food from independent retailers.
  • Coalville – The largest town in the North West and is steeped in its heritage from coal mining to rocket trains, to action man! This is the largest town in the North West of the county.
  • Ibstock – A picturesque village that makes for a great day out on your lodge break. There’s plenty to do here for families and couples including Ashby Museym, Tropical Birdland and Conkers.
  • Lutterworth – A market town located in the centre of Roman England near High Cross. Lots to see and do here and makes for a great place to explore if you’re on a family or pet-friendly break as there’s lots of open space to enjoy.
  • Wigston – AKA Wigston Magna, this town has many traditional pubs, restaurants and the knitters museum.
