Where's Oakdene Forest?
Susan, Rick, Aimee and Ruby Thomson
We had a week here in the six weeks with our 2 kids aged 5 and 2. The site is very good for families with kids as lots for them to do. The outdoor pools were shallow and good for them to paddle in when the weather was nice. The indoor pool got very busy when it rains. Some people were staying in caravans which did look nice but we were pleased we had chosen a lodge. lots of space and felt very safe for our toddler. A big thanks to all the staff for being so helpful. We are planning to go abroad next year but will hopefully come back some time.
Dominic, Coventry

Oakdene Forest is a very well managed holiday park , thus ensuring an enjoyable and

exciting holiday experience for families and couples young and old in a safe , friendly

environment.
Michael, Liskeard
Date of stay: 22nd June 2018
Ideal accommodation for a group of 6 adults. Two bathrooms prevented congestion and very comfortable seating in the kitchen and lounge area. Very comfortable beds
Debbie, Southend Essex
Date of stay: 22nd June 2018
Lovely holiday. But had problems with tv all the time. So obviously there is a problem with reception in that area.
Janette, Clacton
Date of stay: 18th June 2018
The caravan was much better than we'd expected for the price. Most parks provide basic and usually run down vans for dog owners but this was quite New, very clean and well equipped and lots of storage space plus en-suite wc to the main bedroom which was very helpful.
Julie, Dromore Co Down
Date of stay: 15th June 2018
We loved it all and wished we could have stayed longer.
There was so much to do on site and also in the surrounding area.
Geoff, Birmingham
Date of stay: 8th June 2018
A superb site spoiled by a minor irritation.
Judy, Wisbech

Will be using this caravan site indefinitely every year until my granddaughter is old enough to come to Norfolk for a holiday with me, it is idially situated for me to spend quality time with her every year
Janet, Rochester
Date of stay: 28th May 2018
We had a couple of problems with doors that could not be shut but this was rectified within minutes and my daughter requested some extra padding for the single bed she was sleeping in which appeared before she got back from reception.
Joanne, Essex
Date of stay: 28th May 2018
Booked last minute so had a good saving on the accommodation.
Would be better with a table and chairs on the decking rather than a pinic table.
Mike, Camberley
Date of stay: 25th May 2018

As always we had an amazing time here.
Jackie, Rickmansworth
Date of stay: 13th April 2018
Overall holiday was fantastic I think the only thing to mention is that there is no dog wash or hose pipe to quickly wash the mud of your dogs after a walk in the woods which gets very muddy, would save a lot of cleaning of the caravans
Angela

In order to open the dishwasher to get the bottom rack out you have to twist the cooker and open the bottom oven door. I am glad I did not pay a fortune to buy this lodge which had not been properly checked by kitchen fitters.
Sarah
Date of stay: 16th February 2018
Caravan was lovely, obviously very new. Very comfortable. As with all caravan's I've stayed in there is never enough hooks to hang things, particularly when you come back with wet coats.

Mould in the main bathroom and the curtains were falling off.
when I went to leave I checked under the bed to ensure I had collected all of my shoes and found a bottle from the previous occupant.
Trevor, Shaw, Oldham Lanc's
Date of stay: 23rd September 2017
I am sorry but I am unable to give a review for the following reasons. When we booked this holiday it was so we could visit an old friend of 91 who lived in the area. But she sadly passed away the week proceeding our arrival, but we still came to attend the funeral. And my wife became poorly while still on holiday. So as you can imagine we didn't use any of parks amenities. But from what I observed there is no reason why anybody shouldn't have an enjoyable holiday.
Linda, Stoke On Trent
Date of stay: 23rd September 2017
We would have been happier if our caravan didn't have neighbours with a child constantly running up and down on the laminated floor and jumping off the furniture.
Gareth, Oakdene , Ringwood

We had a lovely seven day and we wanted to stay longer we found out are caravan was going to be emty until monday and asked how much it would be for another 2 days they said the best they could do was £300 witch I thought was a lot of money considering the caravan was going to be emty those days so a little disappointed.
Terry, Marden, Kent
Date of stay: 26th August 2017
The only reason for cleanliness score of 8 was the fact there had been dogs in the van and they had let to climb over the furniture and the smell was terrible we emptied 2 bottles of Febreeze on it to make it bearable also we had to get down on hands and knees to try and get rid of the dog hairs on the carpet apart from that the overall cleanliness was fine.
Sarah, Stotfold
Date of stay: 26th August 2017
Accomadation was great for a basic.
Jennifer, Smallfield

The entertainment was brilliant . Emma with the long dark hair and beautiful face was the reason it was brilliant. The caravan was better than expected with everything we needed and two toilets one with a shower. We were disappointed we could not hire a bike and I could not find a bus to get to another area. My thirteen year old made friends as did I.

We stayed from Monday to Thursday with our dog and my grandson andwas a reasonable price as we got one of your discounted deals. We had a pleasant stay and found the caravan to be very nice. We could not use the club house facilities as my grandson is autistic and would not go in. He preferred to play on the machines and he loved the slide in the swimming pool. The staff were helpful and pleasant in the bar and restaurant. All in all we were pleased with our break and would definitely think about returning if we were offered another deal.
Rachel, Nottingham
Date of stay: 17th February 2017
Immaculately clean, and warm. Kitchen well stocked with utensils. Couldn't fault the value for money.
Michelle, London
Date of stay: 13th February 2017
The lodge was clean, modern, set up for 8 people, with enough space at the table and on sofas. The kitchen was well equipped, we got a Tesco delivery straight to our door. The tv and DVD worked and were easy to use as was the oven. The hot tub made the trip. Despite the snow we used it every day. We also used the sauna, it was small but it fitted each couple in at a time comfortably. Beds were comfortable and bedrooms were set up nicely. We had everything we needed and will definitely book to come back. We loved it!
Cat
Date of stay: 10th February 2017

Very clean, bigger than I expected - but not huge. Very well equipped - space for us all to sit round dinning table - there were 8 of us and 3 sofas - bedrooms were cosy but you're only in them to sleep so no problem

We had a superstar caravan which was excellent value. The caravan was modern and beautifully clean with the added bonus of comfy beds and central heating. The facilities are excellent, our three young grandchildren loved the pool and the staff at Oakdene could not have been more helpful.

Date of stay: 10th October 2016
The hot tub wasn't hot enough and we could only use it for one of the three nights we stayed for. I called reception on our last day to get someone to have a look at it, a few hours after that I walked to reception and they said they received my call earlier and someone would look in it. We went out for dinner, and when we came back it still wasn't hot enough to sit in comfortably.
After speaking to the manager the next day she said someone was sent out and nothing was wrong with it. I've been in a hot tub many times and this definitely wasn't hot enough.

We had a baby with us and to fit the travel cot in the large bedroom we had to re-arrange the furniture. When we booked we did say we had a baby with us.

We had a few drinks in the bar on two separate occasions and both times there was only one person serving drinks, there were long waits. Also the entertainment wasn't great (but I understand this might of been due to the time of year, just after half term in September).

We wanted to try an activity on site so asked reception about Archery... we were soon put off by the price of £15 each.

On a positive note I will say the location was good, and our lodge was warm, clean and full of all appliances/ kitchen equipment we needed.
Nicholas, Yelverton

The Staff were great upon check in,they even let us have our caravan early as we had brought our pet House rabbit and needed to set up his pen and get him out of his carrier after the long drive. The Caravan was clean, and warm and in great condition, definitely would stay again

Great Lodge with hot tub which was used every night, Lodge is well equipped with a welcome pack of basics. bits of the lodge building looked a little 'tired' but we did stay after the main summer season. Nothing that really bothered us.

Date of stay: 26th September 2016
Lovely 3 bed caravan. Comfortable beds, lovely large shower. Doors are smaller than standard. Kitchen large and well kitted out, lounge area comfortable with plenty of space, tv and electric fire. Heated throughout. Decking on my caravan was on the small side with only enough room to squeeze a table and 4 chairs on but had to shuffle if opening and closing the door. Decking is gated. Lovely caravan, would definitely use again. Big bonus for me was parking next to the caravan.

Lodge lovely but tired and not particularly clean - broken lamps, last occupants towels in bedroom. Also you need to bring everything... bin bags, dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls - things I just hadn't thought about.
Hot tub was fab though - if we didn't have that it would have been pretty rubbish.

Good caravan, very clean, the only complaint being the pillows and duvets were old and stained. We had good holiday in the van, they are sited rather close together, so you have to close your curtains otherwise your neighbour can see straight in, but I suppose that is the same everywhere. Very comfortable, good to and heating.

We had a lovely time... So much so we extended our trip. We went as a group of four adults so didn't use the club house of an evening as this was more geared up for family's and children. Only complaint is the timetable we were given didn't reflect the real opening and closing times of shop etc.

I marked the cleanliness down a bit because the kitchen area hadnt been cleaned thoroughly. There were dog toys left in a kitchen cupboard, so it hadnt been checked properly and there were tea stains and hand prints all over the cupboard doors. I cleaned it off myself. Other than these things it was a very comfortable caravan.

The lodge was well maintained and equipped and the hot tub an excellent bonus!! The beds were extremely comfortable and the lounge was an excellent size. Plenty of room for our group - 4 adults and 2 children. The lodge has a cosy feeling, efficient heating (needed in Feb!). 2 bathrooms a massive bonus! It was excellent I can't suggest any improvements! The price was high as it was half term so to be expected.

Date of stay: 2nd November 2015
The caravan itself was fantastic but was in need of a good clean. Some cups and pans were unwashed, shower head was hanging off, loose kitchen tap, balls of long hair in corners of rooms, crumbs and bits in bread bin, dust and bits in wardrobe and drawers. We reported all this to reception on our arrival night.

Date of stay: 31st October 2015
Beds very comfortable. We were a party of six, with 4 adults and lounge seating not adequate and bedrooms too small. Outdoor decking area good but only 4 seats. Same with dining area only really adequate for 4. We were there in October so we're inside quite a lot, could probably cope better in summer.
Evening entertainment fair but not much for 8 to14 age group. Great for 4 to 7 year olds. Not enough seating either.

Date of stay: 8th August 2015
The caravan was great. My only criticism is that the travel cot only fits in the single room which meant a difficult arrangement when dealing with a 10 month old baby not sleeping in the same room as their parents! I guess caravans aren't designed with that in mind! Loved the caravan was very happy with it and would recommend!

Lynda, West Molesey
Date of stay: 7th August 2015
Great activities although a bit expensive if you have a couple of kids.had a good time, staff were great with kids, disco etc. only problem we had was my grandsons trainers disappeared from the shoe rack in the swimming pool. I guess we are too trusting. We reported this to reception and were told that others had gone missing the day before. A notice advising that there were light fingered people about would have helped and would have made us more vigilant. We had to purchase some in Sainsburys as he only had one pair with him. These were brand new Nikes so he wasn't too chuffed having to wear Sainsburys!!

My girls (2 & 4) had a fab time... All they wanted to do was swim. The did some of the activities that was there and enjoyed. I will be going back again as the paid activities are for older children and are more exciting. The staff were Soooo helpful and nothing was too much trouble - thank you guys!! We paid for a Super Saver (which was v-clean) but developed a leak and we was moved to a new (3 week old) caravan!! Bliss! The only complaint I have (and its a v-minor one) is the changing area for swimming the floor was constantly dirty from people walking in with there shoes, despite staff continually cleaning the floor. I suggest having someone at the door to remind parents (as it was mostly them) and children to remove their shoes. Thank you for a great half term holiday Oakdene Forest!!! xx

Date of stay: 6th April 2015
Our Select 2 was new. Well kitted out with plenty of kitchenware and a huge fridge freezer. Nice and warm as well with good water pressure in the showers. The only downsides were down to the design of the van - the inclusion of a breakfast bar in the kitchen meant the table and chairs were squashed into a space that was too small and there were no drawers and only one shelf in the main bedroom in addition to hanging space, so not enough clothes storage for more than a couple of days.

I had seen bad reviews on other travel sites and was a little worried but when we arrived I could not have been happier. The staff were friendly and helpful, the restaurant was good value for money and our 2 daughters (16 and 22) enjoyed the break away with us too. I cannot wait to go back.

We regularly stay in 'platinum' grade caravans for weekends away at holiday parks operated by other companies, but I can honestly say that this was the nicest caravan we have stayed in, even though it isn't the top grade available.

Best bits compared to past experiences elsewhere:
- Dedicated parking bay right outside
- Paved path leading to large veranda, (with picnic table) so no muddy shoes if the weather is wet
- Perfectly clean on arrival, including all of the cutlery and crockery
- Full sets of matching crockery etc and plenty of cookware
- Caravan we stayed in was very well set out with lots of storage space and plug sockets in convenient places
- Large TV with good reception and DVD player (good for keeping the kids distracted while getting ready)
- Hoover
- Table with four normal chairs plus two fold-up chairs available (as a family of five, we're used to ending up with one person on sitting on their own at mealtimes or balancing on a coffee table etc)

The only downside to report was with the WIFI. It's great that WIFI is available whilst in the caravan, (especially as we had no data service on either o2 or EE mobile phones) but it took ages to connect, was incredibly slow, and frequently dropped the connection.

Accommodation exceeded our expectations, was clean, warm and comfortable. Although my husband felt the smoke alarm positioning could have been better.

we were absolutely comfortable in our caravan. Everything was immaculately clean and top notch. The facilities in the park were great and the staff were absolutely helpful. All in all, a great place to visit. If only they had bike hire. Also, the activities were very pricey for the kids. We only did one unfortunately

The heating charge of £7.50 PER NIGHT is EXTORTIONATE
making the total for 7 day stay £ 52.50 extra
No way would a family use that much in total----I don't use that in a month at home! Because of this alone, we shall not be using that camp again ( 4 times to date)
Nicola

Didn`t like where the caravan was, it was very close to the road and we had no where to park the car. Also no net curtains so seemed like we were in a fish bowl.
Dawn, Tonbridge , Kent
Date of stay: 1st November 2014
Lovely caravan. Beautifully clean and comfy!
Negatives - The additional gas and electric price was extortionate at £35 per week and unnecessary when already paying more for half term week. I would look for a park that didn't have this charge in the future, and there are plenty of them.
When walking to the main entrance with my children, there was often someone standing by the door smoking. Very unpleasant having to walk through cigarette smoke which wafted into the entrance lobby, where there is also a cafe! This happened on several occasions, and was quite disgusting. Not a nice greeting to your patk.

A very cosy and comfortable caravan. The only things we felt it needed were a lamp in the living area as the overhead lighting was too bright at night, some hooks to hang coats and a mop to dry up the verandah area as it got very wet and slippery, the absence of these things did not spoil our holiday though.

The cafe, although advertised as being open Sunday evening, and we had considered using it was in fact closed.
Caravan fairly clean, however rubbish in bag found beside caravan (perhaps previous user had dumped their rubbish outside instead of taking to rubbish bins!!) once we informed staff it was cleared away before we returned to the caravan (pretty fast). items had been left in fridge that was switched off and had gone bad. Television reception was very bad; no BBC and telex most of the weekend and a few of the other channels could not be found/used. Although I had brought a couple of DVDs with me to watch in case of bad television I was unable to watch as no built in DVD. Overall the rest of the experience was very good and we will return.

Nice caravan with good facilities nearby. Only let down was the evening entertainment which is the worst I've experienced in 10 years of holiday park visits. The kids entertainment was shambolic and left my 6 and 4 year old children bored and the cabaret style entertainment later in the evening was just painfully amateur. At other holiday parks, where we have paid the same sort of money, we have seen professional entertainers and the kids have had great fun with the entertainment directed at them. Everything else about our break was great, nice pool, friendly staff and a clean, well equipped caravan but the evenings were such a let down I doubt we will ever return to Oakdene.

We were pleased with our accommodation the cleanliness and convenience of the site. If the weather had been better it would have been great. Even so the activities and go active staff made it very enjoyable for my 5 year old granddaughter and that made the experience enjoyable for daughter and myself. Definately geared up for families. Wish there were opportunities to have taken my daughter to somewhere like Oakdene when she was a child. We would come back again.

Caravan was fantastic (we take our dog so accommodation is not always of high standard) we were early for check in but were given the key from reception only to find the caravan had not been cleaned - I would rather be told it was not ready! Activities are fantastic for young children. Not really anywhere to sit outside and relax near our caravan. Surroundings were perfect and near lots of places of interest.

Date of stay: 30th August 2014
Caravan was nice and clean but the bedrooms were horrendously tiny and a serious lack of storage. .. the slide in the park area had been out of order since 1st August, the crazy golf wasn't open and the entertainers were ridiculously boring and unfair in the kids games!
Michele, Lowestoft
Date of stay: 30th August 2014
The caravan was a better spec than I expected for one which allowed dogs. However we had to call the cleaners in again as it obviously had not been cleaned. We found socks, shoes, dirty mug, someones note book under beds etc. Plus the toilet and shower where disgusting.

On the whole very happy with the holiday although check in
Was chaotic to say the least we arrived at 3pm
And although the accommodation was ready everyone
Was made to wait until 4pm on the dot I actually overheard one of
The staff say it doesn't matter if it's ready make them all wait also
Beds were not made which I have always found to be
Done before apart from in the case of cheap breaks which this was not. Not a great start to the holiday considering the
Awful weather that day and the fact we had driven a long way

Date of stay: 25th August 2014
Lovely caravan, well appointed and clean. Very comfortable and despite being near to facilities we didn't hear the evening entertainment much. Music by the outdoor pool was very loud particularly on barbecue evening.
Only problems we had were no phone signal and the wifi signal even at the centre was patchy at best and mostly non existent.
Go active activities were expensive- seemed to be lots of staff for them with no clients taking part.

the facilities were not as good as we expected and the pool was not adequate to cope with demand.

There was only 1 vegetarian item on the evening menu and, I think, 12 options with meat. This is completely unacceptable and I would not book again unless this failure is corrected. Remember that options without meat can be eaten by non-vegetarians. Macaroni cheese, pizzas & omelettes for example are meals which could be included.

The only disappointment with the holiday was the fishing facilities, my son was so looking forward to using the lake but there was a huge lack of space to fish from, we had to pay to visit another lake.
I'm sure this could be improved as the lake looked great.

As mentioned above facing the wrong way
Slightly disappointed with children's entertainment. There were times when children were left without instructors at night while preparing for the next act. OK for the really young one, they were quite happy just to run round until there come on. Our 2 grandchildren 5 & 8 got bored so we left the hall, and did not bother to go back other night

very clean accommodation, great to have the pool open later. Would recommend 2 lifeguards for the pool, as the waterslide is abused by most, and is not monitored. Saw a couple of children hurt as a result of not following guidelines, but no discipline from lifeguards, but in defence of them, they can't watch the pool and waterslide.

Was apprehensive about booking a caravan holiday as we normally use hotels but our apprehension was unfounded. Upon arrival we had to wait a few minutes for the caravan but not a problem. Staff were friendly, courteous and efficient. Shop on site was well stocked and good value. Pool was clean and always a lifeguard on duty, was warm enough for our small baby (8 months)Entertainment wasn't fantastic but we still enjoyed it. Kids had a great time (Boy 8, Girl, 6 and small baby) The Go Active activities were good and well run, the instructors were very good with the children (and parents sometimes..lol) We have booked again to go in the summer. Well done Oakdene..

Not used to a gas oven, so didn't realize things cooked quicker, everything else there you need, I thought the fridge was too small for a 3 bedroom place.
Beds were comfortable and bedding clean, it's a shame for the money that you do not get towels included for showering.

We had a great time at Oakdene forest. The caravan was brand new. We were sceptical about the quality and I must say we were pleasently suprised. We were also worried about what is available and what is not. The kitchen had everything plates, cups, utensils, pans, tray, jug, kettle, toaster, oven (was not working though), grill, large fridge and large freezer (we could have brought meat for a barbecue if we had known). Also a hoover. Ensuite toilet. The furniture was nice (Select 2). The electrical fire place was a nice feature. We did not use the on site facilities but the swimming pool looked tempting.

A lovely holiday park which not only is set in beautiful surroundings but is also kept very clean and tidy. the quality of the caravans are a very high standard and are spotless with all the necessary utensils required in the kitchen. The staff are very helpful and friendly and are always there to help. If you can't find what you need in the site shop there are two supermarkets near by. We had a lovely time, accomodation was perfect size with lots of room and high quality fittings. Hot Tube was amazing and all the family could enjoy. My daughter really enjoyed the archery and all staff were extremely helpful and polite. Great location with easy access to local beaches and other amenities. Great entertainment in the evening.
Louise
It was excellent holiday apart from I'd told the booking staff I was disabled and the steps were loose and fell because of the rain made steps dangerous with sticks
Angela
We all had such a fun time. With 3 children with quite a large age range it’s not so easy to find something they all enjoy, so this was no small achievement.
Susan
the park was very clean and tidy. the surroundings were also lovely, with Hurn Wood almost attached to the park
Ryan
Good place to go with the kids as the daytime and evening entertainment was good

Monkey World is not only a local attraction but the work they carry out is amazing.  Rescuing and rehabilitating monkeys and assisting governments around the world to stop the smuggling of primates are just some of the purposes of the centre. You get to see the primates themselves many of which have become famous from appearing on the TV show Monkey World - a documentary about this place. Open year round we think this is one of best attractions in Dorset and you even get the chance to adopt a monkey if you choose.
