The area is home to beautiful mountains, hills, lochs and waterfalls in Scotland and the road to Loch Ewe is listed as one of the top ten most scenic drives in the world. This tastefully decorated boathouse offers a spacious open plan studio style space, complete with traditional king size bed, cathedral ceiling, wood burner and mood lighting. The comfy sofa is the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset over the sea while you watch the wildlife swim past. The TV has Sky Entertainment Plus so you can watch your favourite movie after a long day. The bathroom has underfloor heating, a spacious bath, separate shower and WC. Outside, and up a few steps is the shepherd s hut with tasteful, retro style decor. Here you will find an electric hob, combi microwave oven, toaster, a small fridge and a kettle for brewing up a cuppa. There is also a table and seating to enjoy your meals, where you can enjoy the views from the windows overlooking the fast flowing river or open the stable door for views across the bay and to the hills beyond. This is perfect place to relax and indulge your artistic talents. Whether you like to sketch, paint, draw or write the next best selling novel, you will find plenty of inspiration inside and outside the hut. Outside there is a small grass area with patio, seating and a table to make the most of the views, and a hot tub to relax in with perhaps a glass of bubbly. Writers Retreat Poolewe Reviews

Catherine - Nov 2023
The accommodation is absolutely beautiful, clean, modern but still cosy. The shepherds hut was lovely and quirky and had everything you could possibly need as well as a few wee extras which was a lovely touch. It also kept all the cooking smells out of the main accommodation. . The hot tub was brilliant too. The garden was visited every day by a vaRead moreriety of different birds which we loved. The surrounding scenery is spectacular and the location was perfect for beautiful drives or walks. Hide
Alan - Sep 2023
This accommodation was first class. The separate cooking, dining area works really well and is well equipped. A very private and beautiful location

We would fully recommend Writers Retreat. We had a wonderful holiday, it is in such a fantastic location, right on Loch Ewe with stunning views. Very peaceful and quiet. The owners are very friendly, warm and welcoming. Nothing was ever too much trouble. And right next door to Pool House. - a must see, full of amazing items and fantastic stories fr om over the years., with their cafe North by North West which lovely and very tasty!! We fully recommend this cottage!

The accommodation was extremely comfortable and the little touches, like the binoculars, blankets, flask and food basket, were lovely. The setting by the loch was utterly beautiful and also great to be next to the historic Pool House - we would recommend a tour (or a Spooky tour if youre that way inclined). Wonderful welcoming friendly and knowledgeable hosts to this gorgeous lodge beautifully situated on the end of Loch Ewe and perfectly presented with generous thoughtful extras thrown in. Furnished to a very high quality and exceptionally comfortable standard. Thankyou for a great Poolewe stay. We really enjoyed staying at The Writer's Retreat- a beautiful setting on the banks of Loch Ewe. The cottage was very clean and well appointed. Liz, the owner, was welcoming and helpful. The Writer's Retreat is a delightful place to stay while enjoying the Scottish northwest area.
Peter - Apr 2023
A stunningly beautiful setting by river Ewe and looking out directly on loch Ewe. A comfortable and warm cottage. Cooking and eating in a quirky shepard's hut was fun and cosy. The garden spa hot tub was a big bonus and very relaxing. A spacious cottage with a large bed and huge bathroom which made it feel luxurious. With some small improvements it would rate as a 5 star.
Svetlana - Apr 2023
This cottage is amazing with everything you could wish for, the location still blows my mind. The staff that greeted us and showed us around were delightful. I would recommend the property to anyone and we can not wait to return.

We were looking for a relaxing break and we certainly found it here. The boathouse is just stunning and has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The accompanying shepherds hut is just perfect for sitting and dining in and again has absolutely everything you need. We loved sitting in the hot tub at night and were lucky enough to see seals and otters feeding from the end of the garden. The location is superb, the hosts are fantastic and we will definitely be back.

This was one of the cleanest & nicest places we have ever stayed. Thank you for the consideration put into the property. We had everything we needed & can tell a lot of thought has been put in. It was warm, cosy & relaxing. The shepherds hut was fantastic, a well equipped kitchen and we enjoyed dining in there. We really enjoyed our stay with bonus otters and seals at the door! Poolewe is lovely and the location of the property is excellent to explore the area.

For my 3 months stay in Scotland, Poolewe and the Writers Retreat was one of my absolutely high lights. I spent two weeks in this adorable house and after leaving it behind, all I wanted was to go back! There is not much to do yes, but that was exactly what I was looking for. It is a retreat. It is quiet. The house and kitchen are with so much love decorated. And after a long walk through forests and over moorelands it is fantastic to end up in the well heated hot tub. I will come back!
David - Mar 2022
We really enjoyed our stay at the writers retreat. Beautiful secluded old boathouse overlooking the Loch. We will definitely return, ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle.
Graeme - Nov 2021
Absolutly fantastic accommodation, comfortable and welcoming. Very clean.
Georgina - Oct 2021
We had a really excellent time. The cottage was lovely and quite (just what we needed). It is located by lots of excellent walks, guardens, cafes and day excursions.
