"The lodge retreat was clean, and quiet....hence the name 'retreat'. It has a small shop but no other facilities, which was great for us but some families with children may need more. The staff were very helpful. The location was excellent with access to all the main areas of The Lake District. The lodge itself was clean and ours had facilities for people with limited mobility which my 93 year old Mum needed. The main bathroom was a wet room which was perfect for us. This, and the en suite bathroom, could do with a bit of a 'touch up' in places but were still very clean. Would suggest a sheet/booklet giving information on the area i.e. restaurants close by and the best/popular places to visit.. .or find out before you go. Overall we were very pleased with everything."

"What a shame! This location could have offered so much more. The retreat was in a very poor state. The kitchen cabinets all had issues, the carpets were frayed, the beds had been propped up, the floor in the en-suite was bouncy the light fittings were botched together. Value for money was dreadful, we never met anyone on site - the keys were left for us in the lodge and the key drop when we left. Sadly not a location we will visit again."

"The lodge was brilliant. As soon as you walk in the views hit you from across the valley to the Cumbrian fells. Some of the appliances will need to be changed soon. The fridge door didn't close properly and the washing machine was extremely loud. Also, which is quite minor, the TV could do with lowering.This in no way affected our holiday and I would definitely stay in this lodge again."

"Initially worried as earlier reviews this year poor. Lodge was newly decorated, fresh curtains, clean carpet . New boiler, warm and welcoming. Bit tight in twin room for a wheelchair or walker but double room fine. Wet room generous in size. Some slight tweeks needed like tightening cupboard hinges, slight remains of black mould in wet room and loose toilet seat, blocked down pipe but was was straight after decorators had vacated it and maintenance crew great got straight on fixing it. Had superb views of Blencathra and good trips to NT properties etc. Will happily go back again."

"Location great for exploring west lakes. Lodge well equipped,clean and comfortable. Tv in each room saved our life. Pooley Bridge had nice pubs,tea rooms and free public WiFi. Veranda had nice furniture but no views no sunshine, had to drive onto countryside for both."
