Whispering Waters Teesdale Lodges Reviews

Lovely lodge with everything you could need. Welcome basket & dog treats were a nice touch.Very clean throughout, in a good location & lovely hot tub.Would definitely recommend!
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
Location was nice lovely views.the lodge itself was nice and clean. No heating in the livingroom just a log burner which isnt great at the end of December in a morning and the kitchen is no where near big enough when cooking for 4 people!Personally I think if we had come in the summer and been able to eat and bbq outside we would have enjoyed it more.Would I book again? No can get much better lodges for the same price
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
We visited otter Lodge in January to celebrate a birthday. The lodge was clean and well presented with a lovely basket of jam, croissants coffee pods etc to get us started. Also fresh milk and orange provided in the fridge. The beds were very comfy and bedding and towels were lovely and clean and fresh. We walked into Gainford one day which is an easy walk along a little footpath away from the road. The country side in the area is glorious and Gainford is a pretty little village with a pub and local store selling everything you could need.We spent most of our time chilling in the hottub which was lovely and warm and very private. The lodges are in a beautiful peaceful area where you can just watch the birds and relax. Fantastic place to recharge your batteries just relax.
Sue - Jan 2024
Hot tub was the best feature but need to remember a torch as no lighting due to no sun for solar lights!Lovely stay and generally great place, but we were only 2 adults. May struggle with the sofas if 4 adults and weather not great.Kitchen compact and contained most of what needed but could have done with more equipment. Also be handy if some cleaning products for spillages.Log burner great - we got kindling at garden centre and logs at Lidl. Local pub was handy but don't do food, however they have pizza on a Thurs night. Babul Indian restaurant in BCastle def with a visit

Brilliant place. So beautiful and lovely little touches from Bill.
Verified Guest - Dec 2023
Excellent location and owner Bill who rang to swap lodges and said we could go in two hours earlier.. perfect for the pooch as next to the river.. peaceful, loved watching the birds in the balcony.. Bill greeted us and advised us on where to visit, there was even Prosecco in the fridge.. perfect lodge but sofas are a little small for four adults.. as with all self catering take a few extra cleaning bits and bobs , washing up liquid and dishcloth ( I hate the jcloth ) and dont forget your corkscrew .. would definitely recommend Thanks Bill
Kim Kelly - Dec 2023
Nothing else to add. Excellent weekend despite the weather
Joseph - Nov 2023

Utensils are limited but we expected that and took a few additions just in case, but needed to buy a corkscrew and bottle opener. Everything else was great, bedding, towels, lighting, showers.
Andrew - Jan 2023

I had a lovely few days away the lodge was perfect my only downside was not many activity’s around to do with a one year old but for an adult get away this is the perfect place and the dog absolutely loved it too!! I would defiantly recommend and visit again :) the lodge owner was very helpful and friendly :)
Katie - Jun 2022
Wonderful setting and surroundings for a rural retreat. There is plenty to explore and places to visit. We took out dog Lola and she loved playing in the stream outside the cabin. Fantastic if you have a dog with secure fencing around the lodge.
Jade - Jun 2022
Really had a lovely relaxing 4 days lodge and surroundings beautiful only 1 small comment the 2 seater setees not very comfortable and also could do with a chair on the decking bench not comfortable to sit at
Delia - Jun 2022

Great location with lots to explore in the area. Lodge Very dog friendly and has everything you need for a week away. Lovely welcome hamper with bread, biscuits, milk, Prosecco and a few other bits. Also a doggy one with blankets, bowls and treats so pets felt very welcome too. Great walks along the river straight from the front door. Would definitely recommend and hopefully we will be back again!

We had an amazing stay at Whispering Waters a few weeks ago, sorry its taken so long to post our thanks.
Bill, Sue & Bea were amazing hosts. They really know how to look after their guests.
Although our party was not as big as wed planned, we had an amazing, relaxing time in wonderful surroundings.
The welcome basket was a lovely touch, and we thoroughly enjoyed delving into it.
It was well worth the 10 hour drive from Cornwall, and Bills recommendation of the fox hole for our evening meal was spot on! All I can say is try the belly pork - its to die for!!
The lodge was amazing. Every detail has been well thought out and this made for a stress free getaway which we thoroughly enjoyed and went home feeling relaxed and refreshed.
I cant recommend Whispering Waters Lodges enough. If youre looking for a peaceful slice of heaven in wonderful surroundings - you wont regret booking.
Thank you Bill, Sue & Bea for looking after us so well.
Tim - Mar 2020
Fabulous lodge everything you could want and so welcoming extras provided are just lovely, attention to detail, home made cake, fizz, starter pack of essentials and dogs taken care off with box of treats and bowls waiting for them. Owners just delightful nothing is too much trouble. Thank you we are already looking at another date to visit
Pauline - Mar 2020
Stunning, quiet location & surroundings, comfortable, modern lodge with plenty of amenities. Internet, internet TV, a nice little welcome pack containing milk, bread, tea, coffee, sugar/sweetness etc. Very clean and tidy. A starter pack of logs, kindling and lighters for the log burner. A helpful welcome folder containing EVERYTHING you need to know about the lodge, instructions for everything within and information about the surrounding areas.

The personal touch was the email, sent by Bill, welcoming us and giving us easy to follow directions and instructions for "checking in".

We stayed as a family, 2 adults, 2 children. The kids would have moved in permanently, if it was an option.

Due to the nature of the eco lodges, if you run out of logs it can get chilly, quite quickly at night, in the lounge area. However there are blankets/throws included and it's warm and comfortable when in bed. We only used the log burner on the last night we stayed.
Stevie - Feb 2020
Overall a great relaxing break.

Kind regards Adam and Wendy

We are just back from a lovely relaxing week at Whispering Waters staying in the Otter lodge. The lodge is well equipped and has everything you will need for your stay. Obviously the hot tub is fantastic and we used this every day apart from the day it rained constantly all day. But we made up for that by having a couple of double days a large balcony with a picnic table allows you to sit or eat out if it is warm enough looking out over the river. It also has a wood burning stove which was nice on a coolish autumnal evening. We stayed when the Covid restrictions were getting tightened in the area and unfortunately we never really had a chance to explore the area that we would normally like to do. We did however go up to Beamish, an out door museum near Durham, a short trip into the Head of Steam Railway museum in Darlington and visit to The High Force Waterfall, which was after the day of rain I mentioned earlier so was pretty spectacular. Gainford is a small village , but it does have a local Pub, unfortunately it was closed for refurbishment when we were there. It also has a take a way which we used one night for Fish & Chips, they were really tasty. The lodge is located right next to the River Tees and it you are a fisherman get in contact with Bill prior to your visit and he can give you details on how to fish there. I myself like fly fishing and it is a fantastic stretch right on your doorstep. Their is also a foot path between the lodge and the river, one way towards the village and the other way towards Winston, next village both lovely walks. Bill is a first class host, very helpful, informative and will make sure you have an enjoyable stay.

Big Sheep - EX39 5AP
about 19 Miles
This is a recommended day out for families with young children visiting the Bedale area of Yorkshire.  Visit the farm and receive a warm welcome as well as a guided tour.  You will have the chance to bottle feed the lambs, bath a pig and handle some of the smaller animals.  Kids will love the big sandpit and the outdoor play area. There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Lightwater Valley - HG4 3HT
about 26 Miles
Situated in the Ripon area of North Yorkshire this popular theme park makes a fantastic day out for the whole family.  The more daring will love the big and thrilling rides such as Raptor Attack, The Ultimate and Trauma Tower.  For the little ones there are some excellent attractions such as Flying Camels, Dodgems and a Magic Wheel.  Toddlers will like the Dragon Boats and the Lightwater Express amongst other things. There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.
Fountains Abbey - HG4 3DY
about 30 Miles
This is an outstanding world heritage site located close to Ripon in the North Yorkshire area. Nature lovers will be in their element with an abundance of wide open spaces to explore and there are special guided tours for families.  Some of the highlights may include seeing wild deer and bats during your visit.  The grounds are fantastic to wander round but there is also an Elizabethan Mansion, Victorian Church, Georgian Water Garden and the finest example of Cistercian Abbey ruins in the country - Well worth a visit!
Go Ape Northumberland - NE48 1NT
about 34 Miles
Go Ape! has really taken off and become one of the most popular attractions in the UK.  The Northumberland course is set in the stunning grounds of Matfin Hall.  Described as a high wire forest adventure this really is one for the more daring as the course takes place right up in the tree tops.  Giant tree top obstacle courses include ladders, bridges, tunnels and some of the country's best zip lines.  You will be provided with all safety equipment and training on site.
