Herons Lake Retreat Reviews

"We loved the stunning lake views and the overall vibe of the place. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, which made our stay even better. Our log cabin was a bit worn out and basic, definitely not as nice as others weve seen here. Fingers crossed the Woodpecker Lodge gets a refresh soon - its such a lovely spot!"
Emma - Apr 2024
"We absolutely loved the grounds here, so peaceful and scenic. The cabin was just the right size for us, cosy but spacious enough to relax. Being tucked away in nature was a real treat, especially hearing all the birds in the morning-such a lovely touch. The staff were genuinely friendly and made everything so straightforward, from check-in to check-out. They even checked in daily to see if we needed anything, which was nice. The walk to the village was a bit of a trek, especially since there are no pavements, but honestly, that suited us perfectly-just what we needed to unwind. Cant wait to come back!"
Harriet Collins - Feb 2024
"Really lovely spot, but I was disappointed theres no on-site restaurant. Still, Id definitely come back again!"
Emma - Nov 2023
"Really enjoyed our stay, the scenery was stunning. The only thing missing was a slightly larger decking area. Still, lovely time!"
Emma - Jul 2020
"Our Herons Lake Retreat review: I stayed at the Falcon Woodside Lodge with my partner and our little one and honestly, it was great. The place was spacious enough for us all and the kitchen was well-equipped - honestly, more than enough. Theres a tiny bit of grass outside that our son loved playing on. The hot tub was definitely a highlight, really relaxing. The areas peaceful and has some stunning scenery. Wed definitely return - loved it!"
Jamie - Jul 2020
"Really enjoyed our stay, would recommend to others."
Emma - Jul 2020
"Really enjoyed it overall, but the seating could be more spacious."
Emily - Jul 2020
"We stayed at the Falcon Woodside lodge recently and honestly, it was just what we needed. The place was super easy to find and had everything we could ask for - kitchen gear, a TV, speakers, you name it. The lakes nearby are stunning and the view is just breathtaking. The beds were so comfy and the hot tub was perfect for unwinding in the evening. Honestly, couldnt fault it and well definitely be coming back soon!"
Emma - Mar 2020
"We had an amazing four days celebrating Dewis's 30th birthday! The place was so peaceful and just what we needed for a chill break."
Emma - Mar 2020
"We had a pretty good stay overall. The place definitely looks better in person than in photos, which was nice. The drive was quite long, about five hours, but it was worth it. Only downside was the check-in felt a bit hurried and we didnt get much info about the local area or where our lodge was. Still, wed recommend it!"
Emma - Mar 2020
"We had a lovely stay overall! The cabin was well-equipped with all the info we needed and the modern, comfy beds made it really relaxing. The hot tub was a highlight, though a few lights werent working, which was a bit of a letdown. Still, great experience!"
Emma - Mar 2020
"We recently stayed for two nights and honestly, it was just what we needed. The location is stunning - really peaceful and perfect for unwinding. The room was lovely, warm and welcoming when we arrived and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The highlight had to be the hot tub - super clean, well-maintained and tucked away in a spot where we could relax without worrying about anyone seeing us! The only small downsides were a bit of mould in the shower and some dust under the bed and sofa, but honestly, it didnt ruin our break at all. Would definitely go back!"
Alex - Mar 2020
"We had a great few days away and felt really relaxed afterwards. Can't wait to return soon!"
Alex - Feb 2020
"We loved Moorhen Cottage! The view over the lake is stunning and the place is really well stocked. Only gripe was the downstairs double bed-needs a new mattress. Definitely coming back though!"
Emma - Feb 2020
"Cleaned well, but definitely needs a more thorough final touch."
Emma - Feb 2020
"Great experience, friendly staff, definitely returning soon. Highly recommend!"
Emma - Feb 2020
"Really enjoyed our stay, would definitely return!"
Emma - Feb 2020
"We really enjoyed our stay here. The log cabin was quite charming, spread over two floors and super cosy-perfect for winding down. The hot tub at night was a real highlight; we could hop in whenever we wanted, which was lovely. The location is so peaceful, ideal for a proper escape from city life, although we did find the lack of walking trails a bit disappointing. The surrounding nature, especially the lake with the ducks, geese and swans, was stunning. We even bought some feed from reception to make it even more special. The cabin itself had some wear and tear-those windows could do with some fixing and the upstairs wardrobe was hanging on by a thread, but nothing major. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom was comfortable. The bed was incredible-seriously, slept like a dream! We did notice the outside road is quite dangerous, especially at night, so we were cautious. Check-in at 4pm felt a bit late and check-out at 10am was a bit early, but we reckon two nights would give more time to really relax and enjoy everything. The staff were lovely and accommodating. Overall, a fantastic break-we'll definitely be back!"
Jamie - Jan 2020
"Really enjoyed our stay, the staff made all the difference."
Oliver - Jan 2020
"We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The layout was clever, giving us a good sense of privacy even with other cabins nearby. Parking was a breeze, which made loading and unloading much simpler. The twin bedroom was a bit cramped and our travel cot didnt fit, so we used the space at the foot of the main bed instead. Overall, it was a lovely break and wed definitely love to come back!"
Emma - Jan 2020
"Very welcoming and cosy place"
Emma - Jan 2020
"Lovely stay, very relaxing and just what we needed. Thanks so much! :)"
Emily - Jan 2020
"Great New Year stay, everything matched the description perfectly, no surprises at all."
James - Jan 2020
"Really enjoyed our stay, can't wait to come back next year!"
Claire - Dec 2019
"Great spot, loved the vibe, definitely coming back soon!"
Jamie - Dec 2019
"Absolutely loved our stay! The lodges openness is fantastic, but it still feels super cosy. Truly the best place we've ever stayed, so warm and inviting!"
Alex - Dec 2019
"Really enjoyed the stay, the hot tub was fab!"
Emma - Dec 2019
"Really enjoyed our stay at Herons Lake Retreat; definitely planning to come back again soon!"
Emily - Nov 2019
"We honestly can't recommend Herons Lodge Retreat enough. We stayed in Woodpecker Lodge for my partners birthday and everything was just perfect. A few days before arriving, we rang up and asked if they could set up some balloons, banners and a bottle of prosecco with rose petals on the bed - none of it was a problem at all and the prices were very reasonable. Jo was fantastic; she greeted us warmly and made sure we had all the info we needed, from collecting the keys to suggesting local eateries and shops. She even recommended the Piccadilly pub in the village, where we mentioned our lodge and got a free taxi - such a thoughtful touch that really made our evening special.Walking down to the lodge, it felt like stepping into a fairy tale - fairy lights everywhere, the gentle sounds of the lake and wildlife creating a tranquil atmosphere. Inside, the lodge was stunning - modern, cosy and equipped with everything we could possibly need. My partner was over the moon with the jacuzzi bath - she tested it out multiple times! The bedroom was gorgeous, especially the window that looked out onto the water, where ducks came to visit in the morning (food available at the office). We even spotted a kingfisher land on the BBQ - quite the sight! The bed was super comfy and the sofa in the living room was so relaxing that we both drifted off watching TV.The outdoor hot tub was the highlight, especially given the chilly November weather - stepping into it with the cold air was just incredible, gave us serious goosebumps! The location is spot on - only about ten minutes to a big Tesco and Aldi and close enough to Chester and the coast for day trips. Honestly, the only thing we didnt like was having to leave - we wished we could stay longer. We loved every second and missed it the moment we drove away. Were definitely planning to return soon!"
Oliver - Nov 2019
