This lodge is a great base to explore Scarborough (just 10 minutes away) and you've also got the fantastic Yorkshire coast nearby with its beaches, ancient castle and Sea Life Centre for those rainy days. The North York Moors National Park is all around you here with walking trails for all abilities. If you've worked up a thirst or fancy a traditional meal, the nearest pub is 2.5 miles away... just far enough to justify that extra Yorkshire pudding.
Inside you'll find an open-plan living space with a woodburning stove for chilly evenings. There's a well-equipped kitchen as well as two bedrooms (one double, one single) offering comfy sleeping quarters for our guests and it's all spotlessly clean. There's also a modern shower room and fast, reliable WiFi. The outdoor decking area with furniture offers stunning views while you sip morning coffee.

Excellent location, giving easy access to Scarborough 10 mins and the rest of the North Yorkshire coast. A problem identified on arrival was quickly and efficiently sorted by the host. Found the livingkitchen area spacious and well laid out. Shower room small, though the shower cubicle itself is a decent size with good water pressure. Enjoyed the lovely views over the countryside and it was nice to have proper wifi.
The lodge, location and cleanliness was great, we had a lovely week and even better that it is dog friendly! ! One thing we thought before coming was that the area would be a little more dog friendly and enclosed. We had to keep an eye on our dog whilst in the hot tub if any cars went by as Luna would want to see who it was. If this was fenced off then it would have been a little less stressful. Secondly, I think the place was missing slight amenities that would just make the stay easier. E.g. there was no frying pan, scissors, pizza cutter etc. even little things like kitchen roll, foil or oil. These are things that I know you dont have to provide but we wasnt aware we would need to bring, so it made cooking initially quite difficult. Thirdly, we thought there would be ponies in the front paddock and after hearing fresh eggs in the wooden store we were very excited, but there wasnt any horses to see or any eggs when we checked. Lastly, the tv in the front room wasnt great. We were unable to watch Netflix and it would kick us out due to being oldwifi connection unsure what it was as the wifi was great on phones and other tv streaming. We didnt watch a crazy amount of tv but I imagine if you had kids, this would have been a little bit of an issue. We did have a great time and weve come away from our mini honeymoon very refreshed. A theme park and zoo in one place, with big coasters, family rides and animal keeper talks.
Flamingo Land is a theme park, zoo and resort at Kirby Misperton in North Yorkshire. It has been running since 1959 and was the first site in Europe to combine rides and a zoo. The theme park has eight themed areas, with thrill coasters such as Sik, Hero, Kumali and Velocity, plus gentler family and kids' rides.
Tip: Check the day's keeper talk and show times on the website before you go, and plan your route around them.

A ruined royal fortress on a wide headland with sweeping views over Scarborough's two bays and the North Sea.
Scarborough Castle crowns a headland between the town's two bays. Climb to the viewing platforms in the Inner Bailey and the Great Tower for views over the town, the harbour and the bay. An exhibition tells the story of the site, including a Bronze Age sword on display, and there's a World Builder trail for younger visitors.
Tip: Leave plenty of time to wander the wide grassy headland as well as the castle itself.

One of the world's first purpose-built museums, with Yorkshire fossils and sea views in Scarborough.
The Rotunda is the Museum of Coastal Heritage and Geology, opened in 1829 and among the world's first purpose-built museums. It was built to a design suggested by William Smith, the "Father of English Geology", and looks out over Scarborough's South Bay. Inside, a Georgian gallery has a frieze of the local coastline's geology, drawn by Smith's nephew John Phillips.
Tip: There's no car park on site, so use the nearby South Bay underground car park or Palm Court multi-storey. Check which galleries are open, as the West Wing is closed.

A Baroque house by Sir John Vanbrugh, with lakes, temples, an arboretum and an adventure playground.
Castle Howard is a Baroque country house in North Yorkshire, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and home to the Howard family for over 300 years. Inside, you can explore grand galleries, bedrooms and a world-class art and sculpture collection. The house is also well known as a filming location, including for Brideshead Revisited and Bridgerton.
Tip: Buying tickets online costs less than buying at the Ticket Office, so book online. House and Gardens tickets include the playground.

Clifftop abbey ruins above Whitby harbour, with a museum and the Dracula story.
The ruins of Whitby Abbey crown a clifftop above the historic fishing port of Whitby. The headland has been home to an Anglo-Saxon monastery, a great medieval abbey and a 17th-century mansion, and it has long been wrapped in myths and legends. The substantial remains of the abbey church are Grade I listed and cared for by English Heritage.
Tip: Head into the museum in Cholmley House as well as the ruins - it holds most of the stories of the headland.

A Grade I listed Georgian house on the Yorkshire Wolds, with Capability Brown parkland, a farm shop and a farm.
Sledmere House is a Grade I listed Georgian country house between Driffield and Malton, and the ancestral home of the Sykes family. It is known for its Chippendale and Sheraton furnishings, fine plasterwork and the Long Library, which is described as one of the most beautiful rooms in England. The Turkish Room, with its Kutahya tiles, is another highlight.
Tip: The farm shop, adventure play area and farm do not need a ticket and parking is free, but check the website for current opening times before you set off.

A family-friendly mix of farming museum, steam railway, animals and living history, just outside York.
Murton Park is set in 14 acres of countryside east of York and is home to the Yorkshire Museum of Farming. Inside you can explore the history of farm machinery, rural life and the Women's Land Army. Outdoors there are animals to meet, play areas, and a short ride on the Derwent Valley Light Railway at weekends.
Tip: The living history sites may have limited or no access during school term time, so visit at a weekend or in the school holidays to see the Roman fort and Viking village.

A Grade I listed cathedral with the largest expanse of medieval stained glass in the world.
York Minster is an Anglican cathedral in the city of York and the seat of the Archbishop of York. Most of the building dates from between 1220 and 1472. It keeps most of its medieval stained glass, including the huge east window, the largest expanse of medieval glass in the world, and the Five Sisters window in the north transept.
Tip: Pre-book your tickets, and note that a Minster ticket is valid for 12 months. The Central Tower needs a combined ticket and a minimum age of 8.
