Ruthven Falls Reviews

"We stayed at this place during a rainy December and it was perfect for us. The house is really well kitted out and super cosy - it kept us warm and comfy all day. The bath was just lovely and the big shower was a bonus. Being near a flight path didnt bother us at all and its ideal if your dog hates fireworks since its so remote. Thanks a lot for a lovely stay!"
Amelia - May 2025
"We stayed here for a week in July with our two small dogs and honestly, it was a lovely experience. The cottage itself is charming and the hot tub was a real highlight-especially since we hit some of the hottest days of the year, so having a cool dip was just perfect. The hosts were really friendly and made us feel welcome, which was nice. Watching the planes land near Stansted was quite fun too, even if we're on the flight path. Overall, wed definitely recommend for a relaxing getaway!"
Liam - Apr 2025
"We keep returning because the hot tub and stunning views make it so special."
Charlie - Mar 2025
"Really enjoyed the setting, lovely walk with the dogs through all the fields, its perfect!"
Jasper - Mar 2025
"Our Ruthven Falls review: We had a lovely stay at this place, nestled in such a peaceful, private spot. The owners were genuinely friendly and always ready to help if needed, but it still felt like we had our own space. The hot tub was a real treat after a day out cycling - such a nice touch! A heads up though: the cottage is right under Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of aircraft noise. It didnt bother us much after a while, but its worth mentioning if youre sensitive to noise. Overall, a great find!"
Alex - Feb 2025
"We loved the peaceful vibe here, its perfect for relaxing. Sharon and Robert really go above and beyond to make sure everythings just right. Even though its our second time, were already planning to return again!"
Sophie - Jan 2025
"We decided to spend our first Christmas away from home here and honestly, it was lovely. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The lodge was spotless, well-equipped and had a comfy hot tub that was checked daily-so relaxing! The grounds were beautifully maintained, peaceful and perfect for a stroll by the river. Also, having EV chargers on all lodges was a big plus. We loved it and will definitely return!"
Emma - Dec 2024
"The owners are genuinely lovely and welcoming, making sure everything's perfect. The cottage is super cosy and spotless and the enclosed yard was great for our dog. The hot tub was a lovely bonus too!"
Sarah - Dec 2024
"We had a really lovely time staying here! Sharon and Robert are fantastic hosts who made us feel right at home from the start. The place was spotlessly clean, cosy and felt safe for our dog Archie, which was important. The location is perfect, with plenty of walks nearby and Thaxted and the surrounding villages are charming to explore. Honestly, we left feeling refreshed and relaxed - it was just what we needed!"
Claire - Mar 2024
"We found the site pretty quiet, which suited us just fine. Last year, there was always a manager around 24/7 to handle security and any issues, but this time, we didnt see anyone. The two groundsmen were really friendly and willing to help us out with a couple of minor problems, which was great. The hot tub was out of action the first night because it hadnt heated up enough, probably because it wasnt turned on early enough. Our lodge was comfy overall, but there were a few maintenance niggles and some broken crockery. We did notice a lot of dead flies on the lounge floor when we arrived, but tidied them up ourselves, so no worries there. One thing to mention is that Lodge 4 has zero kitchen storage, unlike last years Lodge 36, which was fantastic. Were not sure wed come back just yet, mainly because we think having a manager on site for any issues would make a big difference. Still, gotta say, the groundsmen are fab-too much responsibility seems to be unfairly placed on them."
Charlotte - Mar 2024
"Really enjoyed the walk, the fields were beautiful and having the dogs with us made it perfect."
Samira - Feb 2024
"We had a wonderful stay at this lovely spot, tucked away in a peaceful, private area. The owners are super friendly and really helpful if you need anything, but they also respect your privacy completely. After a big day of cycling, the hot tub was a real treat! Just a heads-up, the cottage is right under Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of aircraft noise. We got used to it pretty quickly, so it didnt ruin our trip, but its worth mentioning if youre sensitive to noise. All in all, a great find!"
Rajesh - Jan 2024
"From the moment we arrived, we felt really welcomed and our lodge was all set up for us. Our host went through everything and even left us a nice breakfast pack plus some biscuits, which was a lovely little touch. The lodge itself was super cosy and well-equipped - everything we needed in the kitchen and the bed was really comfy. We enjoyed the river walk and the play area, which was perfect for our family and our dog. The only hiccup was the hot tub not working initially, but they got it sorted the next morning, so no big deal. Honestly, wed happily come back for sure. 5 stars!"
Emily - Jan 2024
"We spent a week over New Year at this place and honestly, it was pretty lovely. The lodge was just the right size for our group of six adults plus our little Jack Russell-plenty of space and well equipped, with things like a dishwasher and washing machine which made things so much easier. We loved using the hot tub every day; a staff member kept it spotless each morning, which our dog found hilarious! Only small gripe was the outside lighting on the steps - it was dark so early, around 3pm, making it tricky to see when taking the dog out in winter. The site itself was peaceful, well-kept and all the staff were super friendly and welcoming. Wed definitely return!"
Lucy - Jan 2024
"We had a fantastic stay! The lodge was spotlessly clean and really well stocked with everything we needed. The hot tub was massive and ready to go when we got there, which was a lovely touch. The staff were super friendly and professional too. Definitely coming back!"
James - Jan 2024
"We recently enjoyed a really peaceful stay in our lodge, complete with a hot tub which was a real highlight! The lodge itself was spotless and the grounds were well-maintained. When we arrived, the reception staff made us feel welcome and guided us straight to our cabin. Inside, there was milk, bread and a cooked breakfast pack with eggs in the fridge - plus tea, coffee, biscuits and a cute little treat for our dog. Wed definitely recommend staying here - its just lovely!"
Oliver - Dec 2023
"We really enjoyed the stay, especially walking the dogs through all the beautiful fields. Lovely experience!"
Ellie - Nov 2023
"We really think owning transport is essential here. The location is perfect for outdoor lovers and families, being quite secluded yet central enough. The site is expanding, with around 15 units now and more groundworks ready behind a secure fence. The lodges are brand new, equipped with all modern comforts-hot tubs, comfy furniture on spacious verandas-youd struggle to find any faults with the accommodation or facilities. Within minutes, you can walk to the river Isla and enjoy a 1.5-mile stroll along its quiet banks, plus there's fishing in season for trout, grayling and salmon. Nearby towns like Alyth and Blairgowrie offer golf courses and further afield, youve got Dundee, Dunkeld, Perth and others for exploring. Honestly, four nights isnt enough to see everything! No complaints from our group at all, just a lovely stay."
Linda - Nov 2023
"Absolutely loved our stay! The lodge was so comfy and luxurious and the staff really made us feel welcome. Such a beautiful area, well be back for sure!"
Sam - Nov 2023
"We had a fantastic stay; from the moment we arrived, the welcome pack was a lovely surprise. The peaceful setting and great location make us want to return soon!"
Jamie - Nov 2023
"We had a lovely stay at this charming little cottage. The owners were super friendly and went out of their way to help us with everything. The place itself is really cosy, with a lovely strong shower and a comfy bed that made us want to stay in bed all day! Parking right next to the cottage was a real bonus and the place was spotless. Perfect for exploring Thaxted and the surrounding countryside. Would definitely recommend!"
George - Oct 2023
"The place was lovely and super peaceful, perfect for unwinding. Our dog loved the fully enclosed garden!"
Harriet - Oct 2023
"We just got back from a really nice four-night stay at this cottage. The owners were super friendly and helpful, but they didnt overstep at all. The big fenced garden was perfect for our dog to run around freely. The place had everything we needed, including a BBQ one evening. The hot tub was fantastic! Wed definitely come back and already recommend it to friends. Thanks for a lovely break!"
Jessie - Aug 2023
"This cosy cottage with a log burner and hot tub was just what we needed. Hosts were lovely, super peaceful and we can't wait to come back!"
