The Barns at Blackwater Meadow Reviews

"Really enjoyed our stay. The place was spotless and cosy and the welcome box was a lovely touch. Quiet and peaceful, just what we needed!"
Emma Clarke - Mar 2025
"We really appreciated the high-quality lodges, both inside and outside. The break was fantastic and were already planning our return trip soon!"
Mark - Mar 2025
"Really happy with the service today"
Emily Roberts - Mar 2025
"Great stay, would recommend"
Emma Carter - Mar 2025
"Our The Barns at Blackwater Meadow review: The lodges are stunning and kept so tidy, we loved the peaceful vibe right by the canal and woods. The cute town just five minutes walk away was a real bonus and there are loads of sights nearby with beautiful views all around. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to return!"
Oliver - Mar 2025
"We stayed at this place recently and honestly, the cabins themselves are stunning - beautifully finished and really cosy. We loved the location by the lake, its gorgeous! However, there are quite a few things that could be better. The steps up to the lodges are a bit of a nightmare, especially if youve got small kids or mobility issues. The gravelled deck and hot tub below the stairs make it even more risky and with icy conditions and no handrail, its a real hazard. We were glad we had a 4x4 to get in and out of the site, as the entrance road is still a work in progress. Privacy inside and outside the lodges isnt great either - most people kept blinds drawn all day, which isnt ideal. The pond is lovely but sound travels easily and we were disturbed a few times by some anti-social behaviour. Unfortunately, the staff didnt seem very interested or available to help out. On the plus side, cleanliness was top-notch, but the dishwasher was pretty gross - clearly hadnt been cleaned in ages, with filters needing a proper scrub. Overall, a mixed stay with some real highlights and quite a few niggles. We might go back, but with a few caveats!"
Emma and Luke - Mar 2025
"We had a lovely short stay at The Barns. The drive up was a bit rough with some pretty big potholes on the track, but the staff reassured us theyre working on fixing it soon. The team on site were genuinely helpful and friendly throughout our visit. Our lodge, Stargazer, was spotless and had lovely bathrooms and bedrooms. It was a bit smaller than we imagined in the lounge and kitchen area, but once we settled in, it was comfortable enough for just the two of us. If youre planning to bring more people, Id suggest upgrading to a larger lodge. The setting is beautiful, right next to the canal for nice walks and close to The Mere. If theres another deal, well definitely come back!"
Emily - Mar 2025
"We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge. Its spacious, beautifully furnished and super comfy beds. Theres plenty of storage in every room and having a full-sized fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher made everything so easy. Its warm and feels like a home away from home!"
Emma Carter - Mar 2025
"The cabins really charming and thoughtfully decorated, giving off a warm vibe. The kitchen and front room are a good size, but we did find the storage a bit lacking-more drawers and hangers wouldve been helpful!"
Sarah - Feb 2025
"Looking forward to booking again, loved every minute!"
Emma Carter - Feb 2025
"We recently booked a two-night stay here as a sort of belated Christmas treat for my partner and honestly, it was fantastic! The place is absolutely gorgeous, with so much attention to detail inside. Everything you could possibly need is there, including a really sweet welcome basket with some goodies. Just before we arrived, we got a call from Kate to let us know the driveway was flooded because of the rain, but they kindly upgraded us to a different barn. We really appreciated that gesture since it wasnt necessary, but they did it anyway - big thanks to Kate for that! The staff are genuinely lovely and attentive and the hot tub was just the best. The views are breathtaking and honestly, we didnt want to leave the place - its perfect for a cosy couples escape. Really loved it, thank you so much!"
Freya - Jan 2025
"We had a lovely weekend away. The facilities were really good and the hot tub was already warm when we got there, which was a nice touch. Sadly, the first two nights were cloudy, so no stargazing, but the third night, clear skies meant plenty of stars to enjoy. Wed definitely come back!"
Emma Carter - Nov 2024
"The lodge was fantastic, honestly. We keep reminiscing about the holiday and recommending it to everyone we know. Definitely a trip to remember!"
James - Mar 2024
"We had a wonderful stay! The lodge was stunning and perfectly placed for walking into Ellesmere. The walk around the lake was lovely and the kids enjoyed the park. The Sunday lunch at the boathouse was really nice. The only downside was the unfenced pet area near our lodge, but we hear its being sorted. Well definitely return!"
Emma - Mar 2024
"We really enjoyed our stay! The lodge was spotless and super comfy. Ellesmere had plenty of lovely spots for food and walks. Angela was lovely! Wed happily come back and tell everyone about it."
Emma - Mar 2024
"Really enjoyed our stay, the lodge had everything we needed."
Emma - Mar 2024
"We had a really lovely stay at the Barns! The location is just perfect - peaceful but still a short walk into Ellesmere, which we loved. The warm welcome was a nice touch, especially the hamper of treats and Angela popping by on the first morning to check in and give us a map was really thoughtful. The site itself is so tranquil, perfect for unwinding. Stargazing in the hot tub and spotting wildlife in the mornings was such a treat, especially with that little view of the canal and swans. Were already thinking about coming back in summer to enjoy the fire pit and outdoor furniture. Definitely recommend!"
