Beautiful lodge in a beautiful setting. My second time staying in one of these lodges. Perfect for cooking as they have thought of everything to be able to cook anything. Good communication with the owners. Site is well kept and only 3 miles from shops etc but also surrounded by nature.

Overall we had a lovely stay in Rudyard! Had some issues with the heating as we didnt realise it was controlled by under floor heating so the first night was pretty cold. Theres no info regarding it and after a rude phone call with one of the owners before even arriving after some confusion over the check in time I didnt want to contact them again. I didnt sleep at all on the last night unfortunately due to various issues with the bedheating etc so we checked out way earlier than needed! The lodge was well equipped, apart from missing a hairdryer and no towels in the second double bedroom which most self catering properties supply! Luckily I brought my own towels and me and my friend shared my hairdryer. Beautiful walks around the lake, a hotelbar just at the bottom of the hill to the lodge which was beautiful and the staff were so so friendly we would definitely go back to Rudyard just not to Kipling Lodge which is a shame. I messaged the owner when we left to say where the key was and to thank them for a lovely stay etc and got a thumb up emoji response which also left a bit of a bitter taste. We stayed for 3 nights and wasnt cheap so their customer servicehospitality skills could definitely be improved!

Firstly, I sent text messages 4872 hours beforehand as per instruction to confirm with the owners wherehow to collect keys, and also for us to confirm checkin checkout times as there was some confusion with the information given. As in one booking confirmation email received it stated that checkin was at 12pm and checkout at 9am, and then in another email it said that checkin was at 3pm and checkout at 10am. I text both numbers and didn't get a response back at all. In the end we just planned to get there for the later checkin time of 3pm. Luckily I text again on our checkin day and did get a response we were told we'd be met there when informing them of our arrival time, but when we did arrive we didn't see anyone and wasn't greeted. We ended up finding the keys under the doormat and just let ourselves in in the end. During the evening of day 1 we noticed the lodge getting very hot inside. We tried all sorts to turn off the heating, using the Nest heating dial to turn everything off. Only later on in the night did we find that each room had its own control panel on a wall in that room that controlled its underfloor heating, with some rooms set as high as 26oC it was a lovely sunny day so no heating was needed. If you stay in the bedroom with the onsuite, expect a very disturbed sleep. During the night the Jacuzzi turns itself on for an hour ever so often, presumably to do a filter cycle, and as the bed's headboard in that room is back to back with the jacuzzi outside you get kept awake by the sound of the jets and buzzing and water gushing around. This was a major annoyance for us, didn't make the mornings enjoyable being sleepdeprived, and simply put... made us look forward to going home to our own quiet bed. And then there's some minor things that we wouldn't normally complain about, but considering the other stuff... there was a dishwasher but no dishwasher tablets, kitchen sink but no washing up liquid, and there were no spare binbags or extra toilet rolls. If the above was rectified then it would be a 5star, 10 out of 10, but sadly it was a disappointing experience overall, with very disturbed sleep the opposite of what you want when you go away on holiday! There's multiple reviews mentioning the issues with the radiators underfloor heating, so why not simply pin up a small poster with a guide, or leave a leaflet with the information so guests know right away how to turn it all onoff. And more importantly, the Jacuzzi's autocycle needs to be programmed to not come on during night time.

We spent five nights at Kipling lodge and thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful and quiet surroundings. The lodge was on the banks of the lake and gave great access to walks. The lake cafe served teas and cake. The lodge was well equipped and had all facilities needed for the stay including a large hot tub which was always hot cleaned and maintained. Listening to and seeing the owls at night was peaceful. Our dog enjoyed chasing a ball on the field outside the garden. Ideally located close to facilities and larger towns and shopping if needed. Afternoon at Wincle brewery is highly recommended. Matt was friendly and helpful and on hand if needed. Overall a highly recommended stay at the lodge and would happily return again.

The Lodge had very good facilities especially the hot tub. Its is situated close to Rudyard Lake which is perfect for a range of water activities and enjoyable walks. Close to Leek market. Matt was very friendly and helpful and ensured we had everything we needed

Entrance to lodge is down a steep slope with large chippings not very stable for a couple of old geezers. I had a fall and gashed my elbow so be very careful. Television remote was useless at turning onoff tv, you had to go behind tv and switch off at socket. I would not recommend this lodge.

Amazing property as described and the location was brilliant with access to the lake. The hot tub was well looked after as was the property. Would go back again

We loved the lodge and its facilities, the problem was that we are both partially disabled and found walking along the rough road and steep driveway awkward, the drop down to the lake was a struggle but we managed. The lakeside cafe was great as was the hotel, the walk over the dam was lovely. We should have investigated access to the lake more as we assumed it was easy to get to and walk around. Mark and Matt were very helpful and its a great place to relax.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kipling Lodge. With 1 adult and 4 children, there was plenty of space and privacy for everyone to enjoy. The lodge is very well maintained and that includes the hot tub. The bottle of wine, water, tea and and biscuits were a lovely touch upon our arrival. Matt was so helpful and quick to respond. The only thing that was missing was a clothes dryer to hang wet towels and clothes, and there were not enough hangers. I believe there were only 6 hangers in 3 wardrobes. Both additions would be welcome. Overall, without hesitation, 100 I would recommend staying at the Kipling Lodge.

Wonderfully peaceful stay at Kipling lodge. Elements of the lodge seemed brand new and immaculate. Loved the welcome pack of tea coffee and wine. Hot tub was amazing and loved the fact it was undercover. Just would like to see some cushions blankets to improve comfort and sluggish tv remote but only minor improvements and will definitely return .

Very clean and tidy, well stocked and a lovely bottle of wine as a welcome. Totally dog friendly with a secure garden with a variety of wildlife to watch. Location was excellent, five minutes walk to the lake rudyard and a fantastic pub also situated there. Recommend the Sunday carvery. Had a lovely stay at kipling lodge and a bonus was the hot tub, which was perfect after a day's walking.
