Chester Zoo is undoubtedly the most popular wildlife attraction in the UK.

Home to around 500 different species and 400 acres of land, there’s no surprise that this national hotspot welcomes almost two million visitors each year. But it’s not just the zoo’s rare animals and award-winning gardens which attract customers, it’s also the convenience!

Located just 15 minutes by car from Cheshire, this family-favourite is in perfect position for those planning a holiday nearby. For inspiration on where to stay, why not try some of these lodges below:

Delamere Forest Lodges in Frodsham

Set within a 2,400 acre ‘oasis’ of woodland, Delamere Lodges are at the heart of the Cheshire Plain. What’s more, these hidden gems are only a 20-minute drive from Chester Zoo and you’ll be able to see spectacular views of the Peak District wherever you walk.

These self-catered cabins were clearly designed with the family in mind, and there is a range of activities to keep you entertained. Whether mountain biking’s on your bucket list, or you simply want to explore the forest trails on foot- Delamere has you covered.

If you fancied taking your love of nature one step further, then why not stay in their very own ‘Golden Oak Treehouse’? Sleeping up to 10 people, this lodge is ideal for big groups who like to barbeque and enjoy the outside!

For those wanting a more relaxed stay, you’ll be happy to know that each lodge has its own private hot tub and if you’re not in the mood to cook, you can simply order food from the comfort of your own TV. Pets are also allowed to stay for an additional small charge.

Delamere Lake Sailing and Holiday Park in Delamere

Sticking to Cheshire’s largest woodland, we have this great resort in Delamere.

Much-like the Forest Lodges above, these cabins are pet-friendly, and each have their own hot tub for guests to enjoy. This is the perfect destination for anyone wanting an adventure as it’s situated around a 120-acre lake.

From stand-up paddleboarding to tubing, this holiday park has everything you need to have fun. Perhaps the best activity on offer is their ‘Aqua Park’- a giant inflatable playground which is set on water!

If this hasn’t convinced you, then it’s important to note that these lodges are just 30 minutes by car to Chester Zoo.

Arbennig Luxury Lodges in Mold

Another convenient choice for many, is Arbennig Luxury Lodges. These cosy chalets are situated in the beautiful countryside of Mold, and similarly to the above, are just half an hour’s drive from the zoo.

Choose between two modern cabins which both sleep up to four people and feature their own private hot tub and BBQ set.

In addition to this holiday home’s fab facilities, there are plenty of things to do in the nearby village of Eryrys. Just 10 minutes down the road, sits The Sun Inn- one of the highest pubs in Wales. This traditional tavern offers everything from award-winning cask ales to delicious comfort food. Perfect if you fancy both a pint and a roast post-zoo!

Alternatively, ‘Glasfryn’ is a popular choice for many (especially those wanting to earn their dinner). On this pub’s website, you’ll be able to find a brilliant 8km circular walk designed by AllTrails. This has been described as a ‘really rewarding’ route, taking you through the picturesque Gwysaney Estate, before heading back to Glasfryn.

Not only is the food and drink strongly recommended in Mold, but so are the extraordinary landmarks. Coincidently enough, the village’s very own castle, ‘Mold castle’, is just 12 minutes from the lodges. History is practically on your doorstep at Arbennig!

Bluebell Cottage in Frith

Around 15 miles from Chester Zoo, rests Bluebell Cottage.

This idyllic lodge is tucked away in the village of Frith near Brymbo and is roughly five miles from the city of Wrexham.

The cottage consists of a light and spacious living area, as well as two bedrooms and a jack-and-jill bathroom. Bluebell also has its own private entrance and no neighbours in sight, making it the ultimate getaway for those who prefer a quieter life.

There are a few coffee shops and pubs down the road, and Frith itself is situated alongside the River Cegidog!

In terms of attractions, Wrexham is probably the place to venture. This city is home to The Science Discovery Centre as well as the Wrexham County Borough Museum- an educational day out whichever you choose.

Perhaps a little more entertaining (yet still just as informative), is a trip to The Racecourse Ground. Thanks to Hollywood star and Wrexham regular, Ryan Reynolds, ‘the world’s oldest international football stadium’ has garnered even more fame and fans of both the club and actor are welcome to take a tour around Wrexham AFC’s home pitch.
