"We loved the cosy cottage, perfect for a peaceful escape. The hot tub was a real treat. Only thing to note, the planes at night might bother some."

Rajesh
Apr 2025

"We had a lovely stay at this cosy spot tucked away in a peaceful, private area. The owners were genuinely friendly and always ready to help, yet they respected our privacy perfectly. The hot tub was a real highlight after a long day of cycling - so relaxing! One thing to keep in mind is that the cottage is directly under Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of aircraft noise. It took us a couple of hours to get used to it, but it didnt ruin our trip at all. Overall, a great find!"

Neptune's Staircase is a flight of eight locks at Banavie, near Fort William, on the Caledonian Canal. Thomas Telford designed it, and it was built between 1803 and 1822. Together the locks lift boats 64 feet, and it is a staircase lock, so each chamber opens straight into the next.

Tip: Look for the base plinths of the old capstans beside the locks.
