Hill Farm Retreat Reviews

"We stayed in a really nice lodge that was super accessible, with a ramp and a wet room which was great. Even though neither of us are wheelchair users, we noticed some things might be tricky for others, like the hot tub access and limited space between the bed and table. Overall, the place was modern, well-equipped and really comfy - wed definitely come back!"
Emma Roberts - Feb 2025
"We recently stayed here for my partner's birthday and honestly, it was wonderful. The place was spotless and nestled in a peaceful countryside. Melanie, the owner, dropped by to see if we needed anything and was super friendly. Definitely recommend!"
Emma T. - Jan 2025
"Lovely stay, would definitely come back"
Charlotte Evans - Sep 2024
"We recently stayed at a lovely little spot that was so peaceful and quiet, just what we needed. Right now, there are only two pods, but its clear theyre planning to add two more soon. The pods are super modern and spacious enough for a comfy stay, with all the latest tech-two TVs, WiFi, Bluetooth sound system. Each pod is well separated, so you really feel tucked away from the neighbours. The hot tub was spotlessly clean and just the right size for relaxing. Its a bit remote, but only about a 15-minute walk to The Angel pub, which we highly recommend - just dont forget your torch for the walk back in the dark! A quick drive takes you to Southwold, which is a charming seaside town. Melanie was a lovely host, very welcoming. All in all, a really enjoyable stay-definitely five stars from us!"
Oliver - Sep 2024
"Our Hill Farm Retreat review: We really enjoyed our stay! The location was perfect for exploring Southwold and the accommodation was spot on. Hot tub was a real highlight. Can't wait to come back soon!"
Emma & Jake - Aug 2024
"We really enjoyed our stay at this cosy cabin. The outdoor Mediterranean style decor, complete with BBQ and fire pit, was lovely and the hot tub was a real treat! Parking was hassle-free and the location was super peaceful, surrounded by wildlife-though those 3:30am cockerel calls took some getting used to. Just a heads up, the bunk beds are best suited for kids under about 10, as the height limit isnt clear from the start. Easy to get to Southwold too. The host was very helpful and friendly. A great little getaway!"
Emily Carter - Jul 2024
"We had a fantastic stay! The lodge was spotless and thoughtfully equipped - from the shoe rack and hooks to the outdoor seating and wood for the log burner. The owners were super friendly, which made us feel really welcome. Watching the woodpecker in the cherry tree was a lovely surprise. Plus, the bus into Southwold was handy and the local pub nearby was perfect for a quick drink. Definitely recommend!"
Emma - Jul 2024
"We had a fantastic stay at this cosy cabin! The interior is thoughtfully designed, making everything super comfortable. The hot tub was definitely the highlight, so relaxing and private. The host provided plenty of helpful info and cute touches that really made us feel at home. Our family of five loved every minute!"
Emma - Apr 2024
"We had an absolutely lovely time! The lodge was spotless and had everything we needed for cooking, cleaning and just relaxing. Melanie greeted us warmly and checked in to see if we needed anything, which was really nice. The basket of treats, milk and Prosecco was such a thoughtful touch - really appreciated it! Wed definitely recommend staying here. Its a perfect base for exploring all the local attractions. Thanks for a brilliant stay!"
Emma W. - Mar 2024

"We had a fantastic time staying here! Sharon and Robert really go above and beyond as hosts, making us feel right at home. The place was spotlessly clean, cosy and secure for our dog Archie, which was a huge plus. The location is perfect for exploring Thaxted and the nearby villages-lots of lovely walks. Honestly, we left feeling refreshed and relaxed, it was just what we needed!"
Emma Carter - May 2025
"We stayed here for a week in July with our two little mini dachshunds and honestly, they loved every minute. The village of Thaxted is so charming and the cottage itself is really cosy, especially with the hot tub! It was perfect during the hot weather because the water stayed cool and refreshing. The hosts were super friendly and made us feel really welcome, which was lovely. Watching the planes land near Stansted from the window was quite interesting too. Overall, wed definitely recommend for a relaxing getaway!"

The fenced garden was perfect for our dog to run around freely. The cottage had everything we needed, including a great BBQ for one evening. And the hot tub? Absolutely brilliant! Were already planning to come back and have recommended it to friends. Thanks for a great break!"

Attractions Near Hill Farm Retreat

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Hill Farm Retreat. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 6 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park - NR32 4TZ
about 11 Miles
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary - IP28 6HX
about 23 Miles
This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE
about 26 Miles
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 26 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 32 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 32 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
