Bowland Escapes Reviews

"Great place, really felt at home, would return!"
Emma - Mar 2025
"Lovely spot, would definitely visit again"
Emma Carter - Jan 2025
"Comfortable and spacious cabin, modern decor, definitely the best we've experienced so far."
Alex - Nov 2024
"The lodge was absolutely stunning, super tidy and had everything we needed for a chilled-out getaway. The welcoming hamper was a lovely touch when we arrived. The scenery around us was breathtaking and the staff couldnt have been more helpful or friendly. The hot tub and log fire made it even better. Well definitely be back!"
Sarah - Oct 2024
"Our Bowland Escapes review: We really enjoyed our stay here! The place has everything you could ask for and then some. Everything feels fresh and modern, which was lovely. The hot tub was a real highlight and the big bath was a bonus. The interior design is stylish and small touches like salt, pepper and extra dishwasher tablets made it feel extra thoughtful. Wed definitely come back without hesitation. The only thing was the WiFi wasnt working, but at least the TV was connected to another, so we still had some entertainment. Overall, a great spot!"
Sam - Sep 2024
"Really enjoyed our visit, the staff were super friendly and the location exceeded our expectations!"
James - Aug 2024
"Overall, the lodge was quite nice and mostly tidy, but we did notice some pastry bits in the fridge that hadn't been cleaned properly. The biggest issue was the air fresheners-they were plugged in and even after we hid them away, the smell lingered all week. Not ideal if youre sensitive to scents!"
Emma Carter - Nov 2023
"Absolutely loved it here"
Emma - Nov 2023
"We loved the spacious lodge, it really felt like a home away from home. The little touches like cleaning supplies, tea, coffee, salt and pepper made it even better. Watching peacocks visit every day was a real treat!"
Emma - Nov 2023
"We had such a lovely stay at the lodge! The place itself was gorgeous, really well kept and cosy. The animal park was a highlight, honestly, we didnt expect to enjoy it so much and having unlimited access was a bonus. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout, which made it even better."
Emma - Nov 2023
"We had a lovely stay here. The lodge was stunning and very comfortable. The location is perfect if you're after peace and quiet, especially if you enjoy visiting the nearby animal park with the family. Definitely recommend!"
Tom - Nov 2023
"We loved the cottage! Its perfectly tucked away but still close to shops and stuff. The hot tub was a real highlight and the underfloor heating made it super cosy. Rob, Sharon and Bonnie were lovely hosts. Cant wait to return for a longer stay soon!"
James - May 2025
"We had a lovely stay at this charming cottage, especially enjoyed the hot tub and cosy log burner. The hosts were super friendly too!"
Charlotte - May 2025
"This place was fantastic for a cosy winter break. Its really well kitted out and we loved how warm and comfy it was - perfect for a rainy December day. The bath was lovely and the shower was great too. The locations brilliant if youve got dogs that dislike fireworks, since its so remote. And honestly, hearing planes overhead didnt bother us at all. Thanks a lot!"
Harriet - May 2025
"We had such a great weekend here, it really ticked all the boxes for us. The pups had a blast, especially with the underfloor heating-Luna was wagging her tail so much she strained it! The garden was perfect for them to run around. Were already planning to come back, cant wait! Truly happy dogs and humans alike!"
Sam - May 2025
"We really enjoyed our stay at Goddard Mead! The cottage had everything we needed and waking up to walks right outside was perfect. The owners made us feel so welcome. Great experience overall!"
Sarah - May 2025
"We had a lovely stay at Goddard's Mead! Rob and Sharon really put a lot of effort into restoring the historic building and it shows. They couldnt have been more welcoming, along with Bonnie, of course. The place has everything you need to unwind comfortably. Plus, the location is perfect-great for exploring Thaxted and nearby villages with their charming history and beautiful buildings. Highly recommend for a peaceful getaway!"
Emily - May 2025
"We had a wonderful stay at this charming spot tucked away in a peaceful setting. The hosts were genuinely friendly and always ready to help if needed, yet they kept a respectful distance to maintain our privacy. The hot tub was a real treat after a long day out cycling. A little thing to note, the cottage sits right under Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of noise from the planes. It took us a couple of hours to get used to it, but honestly, it didnt ruin our break at all. Would definitely recommend!"
Raj Patel - May 2025
"We had a really lovely stay at this cottage, which is nestled on a working farm but feels surprisingly private. The owners, Robert and Sharon, are genuinely lovely people and made us feel very welcome. The place itself is huge with a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom and the bed was super comfy. The garden is perfect for dogs-completely secluded and nicely furnished. There are plenty of nice walks nearby and we enjoyed dining out in Thaxted; The Star and The Maypole are great spots. All in all, a really recommendable place!"
George - May 2025
"We had a lovely weekend stay here and really enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely come back later."
Emma - May 2025
"The owners are genuinely lovely, really went above and beyond when the storm knocked out the power. The place was spotless and super cosy. Our dog loved the enclosed garden and we couldnt get enough of the hot tub!"
Emma - May 2025
"We had a lovely time at this peaceful spot. Sharon and Robert really go the extra mile to make everything just right. Its our second visit and were already planning to come back again soon!"
Amelia - May 2025
"We really enjoyed our stay at this charming cottage. The peaceful spot was perfect for unwinding and the hot tub was definitely a highlight. Everything inside was spotless and well-stocked. Plenty of walks nearby, making it a great getaway. Highly recommend!"
Emma - May 2025
"Really enjoyed our stay, lovely hosts and that jacuzzi definitely made it special! Would return."

Mark - May 2025
"We had an amazing time at the cottage! The location is just perfect-so peaceful and quiet, exactly what we needed. The surrounding farm is gorgeous and we loved seeing the horses. The owners were really friendly and made sure we had everything. Definitely a place well return to someday!"
Emma - May 2025
"Really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was cosy and peaceful, perfect for a chill out. Just a heads up, planes can be noisy at night, but the hot tub made up for it!"
Emma - May 2025
"We had a fantastic stay at this lovely cottage! Honestly, we arrived with our car packed to the brim, only to find it was fully stocked with everything we could possibly need - made packing a breeze. The welcome pack was thoughtful, providing all the info about the place and local menus, which was super handy. Our dogs loved the enclosed garden and the hot tub was the perfect way to unwind after busy days. Sharon and Robe were quick to reply to any questions. Really appreciated the little extras for us and the pups. Great break!"

Bowland Wild Boar Park - PR3 2QT
about 0 Miles
Head for the Bowland Wild Boar park and we don't think you will be disappointed.  A popular attraction in Preston there is so much to do for the whole family.  From picnics, walks and wildlife to experiencing feeding the animals you are sure to have a memorable day out.  Also popular is the kids tractor play area.  For rest and relaxation the cafe is ideal serving hot drinks and snacks with a lovely view over the pond and wildlife feeding station.  The Forest of Bowland has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 18 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 22 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 32 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Gulliver's World Theme Park - WA5 9YZ
about 34 Miles
This is a very popular theme park with three different locations.  The theme park in Warrington contains not only the theme park but also Gullivers Splash Zone and Gullivers Star Studios.  The Solash Zone is a fully heated indoor water play factory fun for all ages which will appeal on rainy days.  Throughout the year there are seasonal events too such as the Halloween and Fireworks event taking place from 23rd to 31st October.  You can book online to save time and secure your tickets during busy periods.  Over 50% of the rides are actually under cover so you don't need to worry about the British weather spoiling the fun.
