The Essex Golf and Country Club Reviews

"Had a lovely stay at Chappell Lodge.Staff were very helpful and friendly. The lodge was clean and had everything you needed and the hot tub was great. The only thing we could have done with was a mirror in each of the single rooms and maybe small T.V"
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"Enjoyed our stay with grand children in a Luxury Lodge. Staff were ver helpful and the hot tub was checked and treated daily. It was located in a quiet location with view over the golf course. The lodge was spacious, clean with all facilities."

"Everything about the interior and exterior of lodge was first class"

"Lovely accommodation excellent location. Highly recommend"
Stephen - Mar 2024
"Overrated. Mould on the wall and ceiling of one of the bedrooms which is totally unacceptable. Stains all over the carpet which was loose and exposing the sharp tacks. Hot tub cover not attached making it difficult to open. Generally tired and dirty. Shouldnt class themselves as luxury lodges as these are basics which should be picked up by cleaners or management. Strange setting too, looks like youre entering an industrial estate but not much they can do about that. Reception staff tried to deal with issues, but Barry the GM tried to brush off as minor problems not when youre paying well over £100 a night. They eventually sorted as best they could, but experience left a sour taste in our mouths. Have stayed at many lodges in the past, all over the country, in various price ranges, but these were some of the worst value for money. Very surprised at the previous reviews. Wouldnt stay again."

"couldn't asked for anything better."
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
"Not good value for money when you pay for a hot tub to be included and then can't use due to a fault the centre staff were aware of before we arrived."
Donna - Feb 2024

"A lovely stay, amazing lodge with great facilities, hot tub was amazing! Felt safe a secure, would definitely return!!"
Abigail - Jan 1970
"Great Lodge. Very modern and had all the bits we needed. Beautiful views and plenty of windows to let natural light in. Great hot tub on the decking which we used every day! Would fully recommend!"
Danielle - Jan 1970
"Perfect place for a relaxing break. Lodge is beautiful and the hot tub is the icing on the cake. We liked the fact that the hot tub was in a secluded part of the lodge and accessible from each bathroom. Such peaceful surroundings too. Would definitely go back.
A couple of things which I would change are check in and out times..5pm seems so late to check in! And also 9am check out is so early too. 10/11 or 12 would be much nicer.
Also maybe a couple of sun loungers on the decking? Its such a lovely decked area and if you have the weather its lovely to lay out"
Sue - Jan 1970
"My partner and i have just got back from a lovely long weekend in the new lodges and we will definitely be re booking!
The staff where very helpful and friendly and the lodge was spotless when we arrived!
Thank you for a lovely relaxing weekend!"
Kieralee - Jan 1970
"We had an excellent stay the only thing letting this place down is the very late check in and very early check out we had a stay book Friday to Monday but really you are only getting 2 days at your lodge as you cant get in till 5pm and you have to be out again by 9am! The lodge itself is beautiful inside and very well equipped. And in a nice quiet location looking onto the golf course."
Ruth - Jan 1970
"The lodge was furnished to a very high standard, and was very comfortable to stay in. Would stay again."
Steve - Jan 1970
"Stay at Stisted Lodge was lovely. Lodge was very clean and well presented, it seemed very new.
Hot tub was lovely, we used it twice a day.
Only niggle would be the check-in and check out times, meant the holiday was only really 3 days checking in at 5pm and out at 9am, made for an expensive break."
Nicola - Jan 1970
"The lodge was beautiful and modern. The hot tub was a great size, all five of us fitted in there comfortably. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Only negative things I could say is that the sofas were quite stained (we worked this out to being ring marks left by wet bottoms after getting out of the hot tub!). Also the mattresses could do with being a bit thicker and a mirror in every bedroom would be useful. This being said, we had a wonderful time and would definitely stay there again!"
Joanna - Jan 1970
"Mattresses were the only thing that was not comfortable"
Lisa - Jan 1970
"We (Family of 4) are renovating our house and are currently living with parents, so we decided to give them a break for a week. We booked the Stisted Lodge at the Essex and have to say we had a really lovely week spent here. The lodge was really comfortable and spacious and home from home as well as being well equipped. The TV is great with Netflix, Disney + etc, the Hot Tub too was a nice to have. You also have use of the swimming pool and gym, it was lovely to take the kids swimming most days.

The only real negative was the showers werent particularly powerful or really hot (which we quite like), but to be fair this is nit picking. The only other thing that could have been better was the access to the club, you cannot access the club from the rear which would be a relatively short walk from the lodges, it means you have to walk all the way around which isnt too bad, however when you have young kids it was a little annoying and would have been much easier to access from the rear.

All in all a really lovely stay here and we will more than likely be back in the not too distant future."
James - Jan 1970
"Chappel lodge was large, clean and comfortable. Modern and very stylish lodge. Large, clean hot tub. Only downsides were the hot tub wasn't warm enough to use on the first night and the mattresses were thin and springy. But, surprisingly, I still slept really well, even though I usually like a thick, firm mattress."
Rory - Jan 1970
"We have a lovely break, kids loved it."
Katy - Jan 1970
"Lovely surroundings around the lodge and really lovely lodge with perfect accommodation for all. Good decor and furniture. Fabulous decking with a huge hot tub. Thanks so much"
Nicola - Jul 2022
"Great lodge, clean and tidy and have everything we needed there. The country club was nice, we had breakfast there one day which was nice. I was let down by the spa as I asked if there was disabled changing facilities for myself (a disabled adult) but they said they weren't sure. There wasn't any and the ladies changing room had a step to the showers which isn't very accessible. I also wanted to book a beauty treatment and was told to email them. I tried calling worried they wouldn't get the email the same day. The phone rang to voicemail and I left my details. No one has ever rung me back."
Charlotte - Jul 2022
"Myself and friends had a great time. We were there for the weekend and it was perfect"
Kimberly - Jul 2022
"We have just returned home from 2 wonderful weeks staying in Chappel Lodge 2. The accommodation was superb and had everything you could need. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. We were sad to leave. Would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future. Thank you to all at The Essex Golf and Country Club."
Fiona - Jul 2022
"The location is peaceful and clean environment. It is a very peaceful environment for family bonding. The receptionist were friendly and helpful. Gym is well equipped, I just love this place and can't fault it in anyway. There are other facilities on site which are lovely. I highly recommend it and will visit with my family again."
Verified Guest - Jun 2022
"We had the best time at Chappel lodge. The lodge is beautiful, plenty of space and full equipped for everything we needed. Hot tub was lush. Only downside we found were the mattresses being very thin and springy. Over all we had an amazing time away and will definitely be back again very soon. Staff were very helpful and Hana at the aura spa deserves a special mention. Best massage I’ve ever had."
Aimee - May 2022
"Very clean and modern accommodation with everything you need for short stay."
Leanne - May 2022
"A great venue, with many activities and close to a number of off site amenities. The Hot tub was disappointing, although it was sparklingly clean & operated well, access/exit was difficult due to insufficient space between the glass privacy panel & the outer edge of the tub especially as 1st step down was located in centre. There were no handrails nor indication that the glass panel could or should be utilised. Consequently, my wife was unable use the tub at all."
