Jacobs Lodge has everything and more, what a fantastic place! We celebrated a 50th birthday and the lodge made it so much more special with the hot tub, games room and fantastic views! Not to mention all the usual amenities, comfortable beds and plenty of bathrooms. I would highly recommend and such a lovely host Karen as well.
The accommodation is fantastic, very well equipped and set in a beautiful location. With the addition of a games room, hot tub and sauna there is something to keep all ages happy. Communication with the owners was great. We had a brilliant holiday at Jacobs Lodge.
Jacobs Lodge was a beautiful place to stay. Well equipped kitchen with very generous welcome pack. Spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Great games room. Hot tub temperature was extremely high when we first tried to use it and it took a long time to cool down to be comfortable. A rack in the showers to hold shampoo etc would be useful especially for those who find bending to the floor to pick up bottles difficult but otherwise a truly lovely place to stay and we would definitely recommend.
We had a fantastic stay at Jacobs lodge. The property was spotlessly clean and had plenty of bathrooms, which made it perfect for our large group. The games room was a great bonus and kept everyone entertained, while the hot tub and sauna were the perfect way to relax. A lovely touch was arriving to the amazing smell of freshly baked bread, thanks to the complimentary loaf left in the bread maker. Overall, this is a wonderful place to stay with excellent facilities and thoughtful extras. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and would happily return.
We had a great week in Jacob's Lodge. A couple of issues were resolved quickly by the owners who also gave us valuable information on the many superb walks in the area. The views all around the Lodge are amazing.
We have just had 5 magical day's at Jacob's lodge in Eggleston, a proper Family gathering my wife has 5 sisters and this was the perfect property as one of our party was in a wheelchair then one temporary in wheelchair so both downstairs bedrooms were perfect with full on wet room ensuite the rest of the house was amazing, with an upstairs separate lounge great for the football all bedrooms were ensuite with great showers and the most comfortable beds no complaints from anyone amazing views from the property especially when the jets were passing up the valley and also kite's buzzard passing over regular. Great Sauna and hot tub for you to use, again with the views. A very nice touch from Karen the host was the aroma of the fresh bread baking as we checked in. ......and it was tasty
Jacobs Lodge was the perfect venue for our annual reunion with ground floor bedrooms for the less mobile, plenty of space to relax and fantastic views over the valley. The local pub proved a hit on Pie night too!
An amazing property with everything you need. We were over the moon with everything this property had to offer, from sensational views, size of the bedrooms, cleanliness, facilities and layout of the property. Amazing. Very pleasant location and within walking distance to a lovely pub that serves delicious food. Owners were extremely my professional, friendly and responsive from booking , arrival and departure. Would 100 recommend this for a lovely break away.
We had a fantastic weekend staying at Jacobs Lodge. The property is lovely with stunning views. The bedrooms are well thought out with great provision for family rooms and theres plenty of space. Great hot tub and sauna area and a large dining table. My only comment would be there isnt enough fridge space for a property this large another fridge would be really helpful. Overall, this is a wonderful place for family or friends to get together.
Jacob's Lodge was the perfect place for our group of eleven friends meeting up for a short break. The accommodation was very comfortable and the location was excellent, with lovely walks from the door ad a friendly nearby pub. The views were spectacular.

Absolutely gorgeous place to stay, the owners have thought of everything with Jacobs Lodge. Immaculately clean and well maintained, plenty of parking, incredible views and lovely walks right from the door we walked to the start of a Teesdale Way circular walk and called in at the pub on the way back. Its so well equipped in the kitchen too, which was great for our group of 8. We had a brilliant time, just trying to figure out when we can go back!
We had an amazing stay at Jacob's Lodge to celebrate an 80th birthday. The accommodation was lovely. Beautiful rooms, all great sizes and lovely bathrooms. The communal accommodation was a really good size for us all. The owner met us on arrival to show us how everything worked which was a nice touch. The only criticism we would have is that an extra fridge would have been ideal. There is an American style fridgefreezer in the kitchen but for the number of guests and therefore food and drinks brought extra fridge space would have been great. We stayed in Feb so ended up just putting all of the drinks outside in buckets but if staying in the summer this wouldn't have been possible. This was the only thing to detract from a beautiful house in a lovely location. Thank you.

Stunning lodge made very festive by the owners with a huge Christmas tree in the front room. Very clean & had everything you needwant. Owner showed how to use the hot tub Games room was enjoyed by kids. Walked a short distance 5mins to the local pub for Sunday lunch which was delicious. Will def look for another break with them

A beautiful well kept house with everything you could possibly need in lovely quiet country location. A short walk to a lovely accommodating pub, with beautiful homemade food. From arriving to the smell of freshly baked bread, to leaving after 2 lovely nights stay, Couldnt recommend this property enough.

Raby Castle is a Grade I listed medieval castle near Staindrop in County Durham, built by the Nevilles between about 1367 and 1390. It has nine towers, a Neville Gateway with grooves still visible from its portcullises, and a large art collection including works by old masters and portraits. A big medieval castle ruin with a mighty round tower, royal history and river views from the gorge.
Barnard Castle is a ruined medieval castle on the edge of the County Durham town that shares its name. A stone fortress was begun here in the 12th century by the Balliol family, and the mighty round tower still stands over the gorge. Later owners included Richard of Gloucester, who went on to become Richard III.
Tip: Head first for the great chamber window to find Richard's carved white boar and the view of the river.

Hall Hill Farm is an award-winning farm attraction near Tow Law in County Durham. It has been open to the public since 1981 and is still a working farm, run by the family who have farmed here since 1925. The land covers 290 hectares of grassland, woodland and crops, and the farm is home to over a thousand sheep.
Tip: Tickets can be bought in advance online, and the farm can be phoned on 01388 731333 for help with pre-booking.

A starkly impressive ruined castle with a towering keep, standing on a Roman fort site above the Stainmore Pass.
Brough Castle is a ruined English Heritage castle on a ridge overlooking the Stainmore Pass, built within the walls of an old Roman fort. Its towering keep dates from about 1200, and the site was a frequent target of Scots raids. The Clifford family later added more comfortable living quarters, which were accidentally burnt after a great Christmas party in 1521.
Tip: Parking is limited in the village, so don't use Brough Castle Farm. Farm livestock may be present and the ground is uneven, especially the gatehouse cobbles.

Explore the restored palace of the Prince Bishops of Durham, high above the River Wear in Bishop Auckland.
Auckland Castle, also called Auckland Palace, was the home of the Prince Bishops of Durham for centuries. It is a Grade I listed building above the River Wear, and the site's story spans almost 1,000 years. Restored rooms each take you to a different moment in time, from the Throne Room to the Bishop's Study and the Long Dining Room.
Tip: Check opening days and times on the Auckland Project website before you set off, as the palace is not open every day.

The whole River Tees plunges over a cliff in the North Pennines, with a free walk to the southern bank.
High Force is a waterfall on the River Tees, near Middleton-in-Teesdale in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The whole river plunges 70 feet over a cliff edge in two stages. After heavy rain the river also flows over the usually dry right-hand channel, making two falls. In harsh winters the falls have been known to freeze into cathedral-like ice formations.
Tip: The southern bank is free via the Pennine Way; the northern bank is a private Raby estate path with a fee. Visit after heavy rain to see the extra side channel flowing.
