Thanet Well Lodge Retreat Reviews

Some of the items are showing some wear and tear mainly in the kitchen, rest of the lodge was fine
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
Lovely stay, great kitchen and bathroom was particularly gorgeous . Will be booking again!! Would be great if guests knew what was provided, eg just dish soap and cloth no dishwasher tablets.Only criticisms were that the lodge was freezing on arrival, heating wasnt switched on and it took almost two hours for it to fully heat up which isnt ideal as the weather was horrible and the windows let in a very cold draught, and only one toilet roll was provided for two nights.

Fabulous holiday
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
Thoroughly enjoyed break with breathtaking views
Paul - Feb 2024
Our fourth time and wont be our last perfect place to chill after exploring the Lakes everything provided for you great peaceful location.Dog friendly too our favorite place to stay in the Lake District
Jacqueline - Feb 2024
Everything you needed, would definitely stay again.
Heather - Feb 2024
This was our 4th time there and the last sadly, the Lodge was huge, bedding and towels clean, furniture in longe and dining table was so old, dated, and scruffy looking with cup rings Al over them and scratches, the light above dining table covered in Cobwebs, kitchen really cold, the hot tub cover was broke it wouldn't fasten down, so on 1st night we woke to it on the floor and tub cold so couldn't use it for a few hours untill msintemce sorted it, they said they had to do cutbacks so no dish washer tablets, had to purchase them now for 1 pound, then sadly due to the bad weather, couldn't use the tub at all Sunday or Monday morning, the cover was off again plus power cut, so had to get up and go,as couldn't have shower or breakfast, can't control the weather, but if you have to spend alot of time in the Lodge you expect quality, I would never pay full price for this experience, I have stayed in better caravans with the grand children, we stayed up the road in ullswater heights in October and that was lovely, I work as a nurse in a big hospital and always recommended Thanet well but I won't be doing so anymore, we love this site due to its location and peacefulness, but it needs looking into, the mi's match sofas don't work either,
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
The lodge was excellent and had everything you would need while there. The only reason for the low facilities rate was due to nothing on the site for children, it was more suitable for adults.
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
Really enjoyed a relaxing weekend and hot tub was great
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
Overall accommodation was good and we like the site, this is our third visit. However, there were a number of small faults that had been overlooked and the standard seemed to have dropped. Lever on taps missing in main bathroom, difficulty maintaining water temperature which could be dangerous as water would go extremely hot then cold, water in en suite shower took ages to drain so stood in pool of water, utensils broken but left in cupboard, window that did not shut fully so was draughty and rained in. A better maintenance programme would help fix this rather than relying on people to complain as not everyone is comfortable with complaining.
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
On arrival reception not very welcoming. Then presented with a Very tired lodge 43 dirty walls&carpets. Blind and curtains looked new however one blind fell off its mount on first use put back up ourselves. Sofa looked new but certainly not luxury. Fridge had draw missing and no bottle shelf in door and smelt. Door dropping off tv unit. Sweet wrappers etc under bed. Tv remote no back on to cover batteries. No coat hooks anywhere in lodge. Boiler packed up around 1am on first night, no heating or hot water, -2 degrees freezing- out of hours goes to answer phone and is available till 11pm and from 8am to 9am, it was fixed at 8.15 am next morning. We did not expect such poor standard of accommodation and you do not go on a break to then start having issues put right. The accommodation should be right before guests arrive. Stayed at Thanet Well a number of times over the years, never had accommodation like this used to be high standard. To market this place as luxury is misleading to say the least. Looking at various reviews it seems many others have not had good experiences here lately. We wont be going back.
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
Lovely, basic accommodation that was exactly what we asked for. Thank you
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
Lovely staff and beautiful surroundings we had a lovely stay definitely be back.
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
It was a lovely place, the lodge was a little outdated, and there were places where the painting was chipped or the floor. It could do with a spruce up.
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
Do not go to Thanet Well lodge. We stayed there and after the first night, everyone in my family were bitten by bed bugs. We complained the reception the next morning and they guaranteed that there are no bed bugs at this site. They sent over Rentokilland low and behold they found bed bugs in the lodge. Along with this the entire lodge was mouldy around all windows and above the ensuites and littered with spider sacs in the corners and crevices. What a horrible way to spend Christmas. Please consider this honest review before staying at this place. I wish I never booked the place. There is also nothing to do near the site. You need to drive for at least 50 minutes to go anywhere where you can explore.
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
Great location for hiking the northern wainwrights . It was very quiet site with amazing Mountain Views the accommodation was very well maintained, clean and comfortable great value for money
Rob - Jan 2024
We had a wonderful stay here. Its a quiet site which for us was perfect. We stayed in Motherby 2 as a couple with our dog. The lodges have a real homely feel to them and we felt very comfortable there. The kitchen is fully equipped which meant we cold have a cosy night in. The stars on a clear night are a must see! Amazing. I would definitely return.
Natasha - Jan 2024
A beautiful lodge which was spacious and clean. Two bathrooms with plenty towels. Only 1 toilet roll in each so remember to bring your own. 2 sofas in mock leather which werent the comfiest to be fair. We were glad we brought 2 throws with us for that homely touch. Kitchen was equipped, could have done with a couple more serving type bowls and a regular sized frying pan. Staff all so warm and welcoming, Julie on reception who we contacted a number of times as heating and water went off due to the storm and we needed a replacement corkscrew. Nothing was too much trouble. All staff that were called out to fix heating etc were immaculately presented and very professional. A special mention to Cal as he came out on Sunday evening in the storm bless him as he was soaked wet through. The view was stunning from the lodge directly looking out at the Blencathra range. Ideally situated for walkers with stunning surrounding countryside. We didnt use the hot tub due to weather conditions, however this did not stop the team coming out each morning to do their checks. Decent sized bedrooms with comfy beds and pristine bedding. All in all, very recommendable and a great stay, Thankyou.
Katherine - Jan 2024
We had a great stay the lodge was very clean beds comfy great kitchen facilities. we read some reviews about things being a bit dated or worn but our lodge was great apart from previous holidaymaker had stolen the hairdryer but this was quickly replaced once reported. Staff at reception very friendly. WI-FI was free so if you can connect at anytime you are very lucky if you planning on watching Netflix or anything other than free view on the smart tv well good luck but we didnt go to watch tv. All in all an excellent stay and would 100% return.
Karen - Jan 2024
Lovely stay at the Thanet well lodge, we arrived back home Saturday just having stayed for 3 nights, it was so relaxing, the lodge was lovely and felt like home soon as we stepped in the door. Great facilities. Only thing is the WiFi is abit hit and miss which obviously cant be helped. Location is lovely but will definitely need a car as there is no where around to have a good walk. Overall will definitely recommend and we will definitely be back!
Jordanne - Jan 2024
Lodge was perfect for us.Warm, inviting decor with new looking clean carpets and curtains.Well equipped kitchen. Definitely need a car as very rural location.
Helen - Jan 2024
Lovely lodge
Gail - Jan 2024
Great lodge and very comfortable.Would stay again.
Derek - Jan 2024
The grounds of the retreat are well kept and very serene. We had a lovely stay, in our very spacious lodge. The cleanliness was outstanding, the views were stunning, and the lodge is very homely. We will definitely book again.
Debra - Jan 2024
We have stayed twice before at this park and never had issues. Unfortunately, this occasion was not the same. When we arrived the lodge was freezing with no heating on, we then discovered the hot tub was not on. Staff were helpful, but it took over 24 hours to get the hot tub in use. It wasn't broken, just set incorrectly and various people looking at it and the end result was it needed drained and refilled. The decor in the lodge was looking tired (bulbs out, peeling wallpaper etc). The balustrade around the deck was loose and nearly caused an accident and the gate was loose and kept banging on the side of the lodge. The balustrade and gate were fixed when we advised staff, but they should have been picked up before we arrived.Overall, a disappointing trip.
Caroline - Jan 2024
Great little lodge exactly what we were looking for, very rural location which suited us.
Barry - Jan 2024
It was excellent
Verified Guest - Dec 2023
Nice clean lodge with decent WiFi. Good layout. Enjoyed my stay there.
Stephen - Dec 2023
Needs updating very dirty and sheets stained, kitchen needs tlc
Patricia - Dec 2023
As a family we probably wouldnt return to this area/ lodge, weve stayed in lodges in lakes the before but this is one is super remote! Nothing around for a good 20-30min drive. The lodge itself was nice, although it wasnt the one pictured when we booked it and there was a lot of damages to lodge which, for the price you pay, should really be fixed, such as deep scratches on kitchen sides, hole in wall, mismatched bedside lamps with scratches and material missing on them, cracked sink and the fire place light doesnt work on one side. It was nice an clean an the hottub was great, however due to the storms we couldnt get much use out of it so if youre booking in the winter months I would say book a cheaper one with out the hottub as its way too windy an dangerous to use it in those winds. Staff at reception..one was great, friendly and polite, the other lady was speaking to us like a teacher telling us rules we must follow, and giving us wrong information which the other staff member had to correct her on. Youre not allowed two cars on the drive which Im not sure why when there was plenty of room for our two big cars with out going on the grass or blocking any paths/walk ways! With it being Xmas I dont think much staff were about and apparently there was a shop on site but we couldnt find it and doubt it would have been open on the bank holidays anyways. All in all it was a nice lodge, needs some work doing to it though. If you dont mind being out in the sticks then its ok. The views are amazing! By far the best thing about the place. Beds and pillows are A personal choice but for us they were too soft and like sleeping on a marshmallow. Clean towels provided, I think there was also two rolls of toilet roll? Everything else you need to bring yourself. They could do with getting some medium size dinner plates as the only options are a small saucer or a HUGE plate. There was a dish washer but we didnt use as no tablets available for it. Also a washing machine which was a great help for us. The heating is fab, warms up straight away, showers easy to use, because of all the damages and how remote it is wed give it 5/10.
Caulfield - Dec 2023
We went for a short break and to just chill out and unwind so Thanet well lodge retreat was the perfect place.i also love how there is very little entertainment wise on the site. It was exactly what we were looking for.

Attractions Near Thanet Well Lodge Retreat

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Thanet Well Lodge Retreat. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 11 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 11 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 12 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 17 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 35 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 36 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT
about 36 Miles
Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 38 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
