Thanet Well Lodge Retreat Reviews

"Lovely comfortable lodge with fabulous views and hot tub in a very quiet location Friendly helpful staff who always greet you with a warm welcome"
Miriam Louise - Jul 2024
"Never stayed in a lodge before but we were pleasantly surprised, very spacious and clean had pretty much everything you could need for a self catering holiday, we took my husband's kids who are 16yrs and 23 yrs old and so booked the 3 bed lodge with two bathrooms, was perfect. Staff really welcoming and friendly. Nice little shop for the essentials, as you are in the middle of nowhere and the main supermarket was about 15 mins drive away. Would definitely stay here again, ideal place for those who like peace and quiet and don't mind driving to different attractions as located above the top end of the Lake District."
Claire Hutchins - Jun 2024
"Very comfortable and spacious lodge. The private hot tub was a most enjoyable bonus, not overlooked and with beautiful views across open countryside. Staff were polite and helpful. The location was somewhat remote, accessed by country roads but, if you are prepared for this, should you wish to visit the local area the privacy, quality of accommodation for the price and provision of all you need for your stay make this a great base to explore the North of the Lake District."
Gillian - Jun 2024
"Lodge 27 requires some maintenance and a deep clean."
Verified Guest - Jun 2024
"Great break away from it all.Have stayed in the south lakes area and now the north. We prefer the north, its not so touristy"
Verified Guest - Jun 2024
"Overall was deeply disappointed in this Lodge. As previously stated it was very dated. Needs a complete makeover it smelt old . Just not worth the money we paid would not recommend"
Andrew - Jun 2024
"Nice location and quiet place for rest and relaxing"
Anthony - Jun 2024
"We stayed here with the dog for 5 days. It was a lovely location and the hot tub was the icing on the cake. However, the lodge definitely needed a makeover! Dirty orange blinds/curtains, both shower heads were covered in limescale and didn't looked like they had been cleaned. Obviously wallpaper and the odd maintenance needed is expected but definitely needs a makeover as soon as possible. If I had family and kids at the lodge I would had asked to be moved to a cleaner lodge. I wish it was perfect because I got engaged here last week! We absolutely love the lakes and it was a great area. Few points for dogs- there was no main dog area/walk just had to go on grass neat lodges. Our lodge was private and in the right location however some lodges had hot tub on decking in front of many other lodges so glad we had a bit more privacy. Also, the toilet roll was thinner than my patience and only provided 2 rolls so didn't last 2 days, we had to buy some at the shop but toilet should be provided by the lodge! We enjoyed our week at the lakes but I know many other wouldn't be happy with the standard of this lodge."

"Outstanding!"
Caroline - Jun 2024
"A beautiful lodge in a beautiful area that won't break the bank.Pros:The outside and inside of the lodge at first sight are fantastic, and the view of Blencathra and the Fells are exactly what I was hoping for when I booked the lodge! The lodge itself is nice and clean, well furnished and well equipped for all cooking, cleaning and washing. The settees, chairs and tables are all solidly made and can easily withstand any normal use or movement for personal preference. All the doorways, hallways and rooms have plenty of space for wheelchairs. Plenty of storage space too. Wet room is very spacious and has several useful handholds. Both toilets also have very good fans that turn on with the lights.Lodge is located not too far from Penrith and Ullswater, so you can go enjoy the scenery and buy anything you require, with plenty of great places for meals too!Staff were incredibly helpful and always available when needed.Cons:Most of the outside doors have little knicks around the doorway, nothing major, but one always leaves a small gap for a few bugs to get in at night.Main door can be a bit awkward to lock, but fine once you know the trick of how to do it.Both settees are incredibly low, especially for taller people, so expect to struggle a bit standing up, especially if you need a frame to do so. The chairs are fine, but naturally aren't as comfy when sitting for a while. Both toilets are also very low down and we had to buy a raised toilet seat in order to make it comfy.Misc:Beds have normal comfy mattresses and quilts, so remember to bring an air mattress or extra sheets if required.Remember to bring some washing up liquid and detergent.Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would consider revisiting in the future!"
Richard - May 2024
"Sadly these lodges are looking very tired and in need of updating. Cleaning not up to standard. Staff on reception and hot tub maintenance man very friendly. Lovely location for walks but no pubs or restaurants near and nothing on site."

Jennifer - May 2024
"The site was very well looked after and in great condition. The lodge its self requires a lot of maintenance very run down for the price.1. Kitchen dropping to bits2 handle loose on microwave wave 3. Patio paving broken4. Shower cubicle not fixed to the wall5. Extractor fan not working in bathroom 6. Handrails to patio area patched up with decking boards 7. Flooring ripped in en-suit"

"We had a great time everyone was helpful and freindly"
Mark - Apr 2024
"The lodge retreat was clean, and quiet....hence the name 'retreat'. It has a small shop but no other facilities, which was great for us but some families with children may need more. The staff were very helpful. The location was excellent with access to all the main areas of The Lake District. The lodge itself was clean and ours had facilities for people with limited mobility which my 93 year old Mum needed. The main bathroom was a wet room which was perfect for us. This, and the en suite bathroom, could do with a bit of a 'touch up' in places but were still very clean. Would suggest a sheet/booklet giving information on the area i.e. restaurants close by and the best/popular places to visit.. .or find out before you go. Overall we were very pleased with everything."
Jane - Apr 2024
"What a shame! This location could have offered so much more. The retreat was in a very poor state. The kitchen cabinets all had issues, the carpets were frayed, the beds had been propped up, the floor in the en-suite was bouncy the light fittings were botched together. Value for money was dreadful, we never met anyone on site - the keys were left for us in the lodge and the key drop when we left. Sadly not a location we will visit again."
Andrew - Apr 2024
"Very tired and dusty Lodge"

Attractions Near Thanet Well Lodge Retreat

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Thanet Well Lodge Retreat. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 11 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 11 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 12 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 17 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 35 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 36 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT
about 36 Miles
Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 38 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
