Cockermouth Cottages with Hot Tubs

Written By

cottages with hot tubs cumbriaCockermouth is a stunning place to visit, filled with contrasting landscapes. The good news is there’s no ‘best time of year’ to visit – there are things to do all year round.

Cumbria is considered one of the most beautiful regions of the UK. It includes the whole of the Lake District and part of the Yorkshire Dales, and is full of awe-inspiring views of mountains and lakes, gorgeous villages and beautiful walks and cycle trails.

In fact, this is one of Britain’s most loved and visited holiday destinations, renowned for its numerous outdoor activities but also with plenty of independent shops, cosy pubs and great restaurants to try.

There’s always lots to see and do in Cumbria and the Lakes – from guided bike rides to cottages with hot tubs cumbriathe Picnic Cinema at Muncaster Castle, a beautiful setting for an evening’s entertainment. Foodies flock to Taste Cumbria each year in Cockermouth, the county’s biggest and best food festival with live demonstrations, masterclasses, a giant food market, pop-up restaurants and a beer festival.

If you’re planning your visit, especially for Taste Cumbria, Beckside at Halls Bank Cottages is just six miles from Cockermouth but also close to many of the northern fells and lakes, a somewhat quieter experience than the busier central lake district. Beckside is a secluded single storey, detached stone cottage with lovely views, a private hot tub, shared indoor swimming pool and sauna.

If you’d like to be closer to the busier tourist areas, you could opt to stay in Windermere, Keswick or Ambleside, all great locations from which to explore the fabulous lakes and the rest of this amazing county.

Tarn Moss for example, is just three miles from Ambleside – it’s a detached lodge set in the secluded grounds of Naeum Gragg. There are spectacular views across to the Lake District fells and beautiful walks from the doorstep – and there’s also plenty to do on-site, with shared facilities that include a hot tub, indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and a recreation hall.

You can hire a motor boat for an hour, take a full-day river cruise, go canoeing, kayaking or white water rafting – or go Ghyll scrambling! This means descending a mountain stream, sliding, diving and jumping down waterfalls – scary stuff, but of course, all under the careful guidance of an experienced instructor!

There are plenty of cottages suitable for larger groups. Wood View at Rusland, Near Ulverston is a charming 17th century barn conversion for ten with a quiet courtyard setting. Its quirky layout is reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland – one twin bedroom is hidden behind a 3′ door! You can enjoy valley views from the balcony; it’s nestled in the Rusland Valley so the walks are beautiful, through woodland and towards the Grizedale Forest at the head of the valley.

There’s an awful lot to explore in the beautiful county of Cumbria, whatever time of year you go. Have fun!
