Merley Woodland Park

Just a mile from the historic market town of Wimborne in glorious Dorset with its spectacular coastline and delightful resorts, Merley Woodland Lodges sit within ten acres of parkland and woodland. Bournemouth, Poole and the New Forest are all within easy reach and there are some superb facilities including an outdoor heated pool and tennis courts.

Merley Woodland Lodges has table tennis, pool tables, a bar and family room and a children’s playground. The more adventurous can try their hand at kitesurfing lessons in Bournemouth, and if you enjoy fresh, locally sourced food and excellent fish dishes, Da Vinci’s Warehouse Brasserie in Poole is well worth a visit with its stunning views over the harbour.

We can heartily recommend the Canford Premier Lodge. It sleeps up to four people in two spacious double bedrooms and patio doors lead out onto a large verandah with a private outdoor hot tub. It is stylish and luxurious, fully equipped with a flat screen TV and DVD with Freeview and adult bikes are included so that you can cycle right from your doorstep.

Dorset has more than its share of history and heritage - Brownsea Island sits in Poole Harbour and is home to one of Henry VIII’s coastal castles. Highcliffe Castle in Christchurch is also worth a visit with its medieval stonework and stained glass windows. Merley Woodland Lodges is just a few miles away from Eype’s Mouth, a gravel and sand beach overlooked by impressive cliffs with wonderful views. Poole and Bournemouth also have some lovely beaches with beautifully clean water.

Date of stay: 27th November 2017
The lodge was really lovely, so spacious and fully equipped with everything we needed. However just a couple of small points; the bathroom smelt of paint which I assume it was because of the problem of water flooding out of the bath when having a shower! It looked like the wood below the basin cupboard regularly gets wet. Another thing was there was nowhere to hang coats so they ended up being hung over the dining chairs. And one last thing was that the airer was a bit of a Krypton Factor puzzle that six us of weren't able to solve!! And with a lot of wet towels around we needed a decent airer! But on the whole we really loved the lodge and would definitely return!

Date of stay: 14th November 2016
This was the best place we have stayed in the UK. We could not have wished for or wanted anything more from our lodge. It was private and you were left up yourself unless you had any issues (which we didn't). All of the staff are friendly and helpful, and the hot tub was the amazing.

This lodge is in a great place for exploring Dorset and Bournemouth.

I honestly can't sing the praise I have loud enough. We will be returning at our earliest opportunity!

Date of stay: 28th August 2015
The lodge was very clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch. We had towels included which was a bonus. Don't agree with paying extra for the electricity considering the price of lodge for the week. The hot tub wasn't big enough for 6 people at once, also the lodge could do with a decent size airier for wet towels considering it was a lodge to sleep 6 people the airier in the lodge was only big enough for 1 bath towel. We did though use the tumble dryer on the camp site @ £2.50 for 50 mins.
Our lodge surrounded by trees so not much sun (when it came out) and no views. Ok base for looking around the area. Bikes need some TLC.
Mandy, Hemel Hempstead
Date of stay: 28th August 2015
The lodge was brilliant and has triggered a shopping list for a hot tub now .... I would highly recommend this for a quiet and relaxing break.

The lodge was beautiful and had everything you would require. The little extras were nice such as a grocery basket on arrival and game station for the kids.
Louise, Eastbourne
Date of stay: 4th May 2015
Our signature 3 lodge (number 12) was amazing. Well furnished, very clean, kitchen well equipped, and tucked away at the end of the road so was nice and quiet. The hot tub was already usable when we arrived. Towels were provided which was great and the welcome groceries (milk, tea, coffee, sugar, bread, shortbread fingers, butter and a couple of other things) was a very nice touch - just enough to settle in for the night and have a bit of breakfast if you didn't fancy shopping on arrival or packing loads of food in your luggage. The lodge also had a dishwasher and washing machine and a few tablets were provided for each so we didn't have to buy any. The only reason I didn't give 10 for cleanliness is because the the lodge is in a wooded area which is lovely but the outside decking does get very dirty with leaves and bird poo! The inside was spotless though. Also with the hot tub being on the decking which is to the front of the lodge, it's a bit exposed to people walking past so would recommend that the management think about some sort or privacy screening. Otherwise we loved it and will definitely go again.

The accommodation was superb.Seating was a bit grubby. On one evening we encountered a power failure but a phone call and someone was there to help us in five minutes.

Please see comment above. The review here is based on Lodge 12, NOT Lodge 11.
Lodge 12 lacked certain little things that would have improved the holiday - bins in the bedroom, hooks for towels in the bathroom and better bedlights in the bedroom.
Lisa, Newbury
Date of stay: 6th October 2014
Everyone in our party was very impressed with the lodge - it was modern, well-equipped and very comfortable. The hot tub was ready for our arrival, even though it stated in our confirmation it might not be up to temperature. We would definitely stay here again!
Kim, Sidcup
Date of stay: 12th September 2014
I felt the soft seating area needed maybe a armchair or two. There were 6 of us and we felt a bit squashy on just the two sofas we had.
The kitchen utensils were a bit cheap. So had to go out and buy a potato masher, tin opener and potato peeler. The frying pan was not non stick so that was a pain to fry anything in.
Michelle, Bristol
Date of stay: 1st September 2014
Lodge was very well equipped and nicely decorated
Stanley, Rochford
Date of stay: 29th August 2014
dust under the chairs as we found when we move one.Kitchen and bathroom were clean more mirrors in bedrooms needed and sockets were hidden The doors at the end would have been better if they opened right up (patio)the kitchen/diniing area was light and airy

The Woodland Lodge was lovely. Very clean and comfortable and surprisingly very spacious with plenty of storage. You have your own private hot tub on the decked area which was very relaxing.

Date of stay: 16th May 2014
More spacious and homely than we expected . A few little extras would help such as hooks in the kitchen to hang tea towels, and on the back of doors for dressing gowns. When we mentioned a broken item it was replaced immediately.

Susan
Great time had problems with the heating which was rectified very quickly. Liked the location
Louise
Lovely setting with friendly staff. We stayed in a Signature 2 lodge which was smaller than previous Hoeseasons accommodation we have stayed in but had everything we needed, including a Hot Tub
H
Brilliant holiday! Very relaxing. The lodge was lovely with everything we needed. The Xbox was a bonus for the children and we enjoyed Netflix. The hot tub was lovely - as we were there out of peak season we didn't see anyone around so it was fine for us - but it is at the front of the lodge so not very private - could do with some privacy screens. We took the kids bikes and borrowed some from the site - they were okay but not for long rides as they are in need of a bit of tlc on the gears and brakes! All of the staff were very helpful, happy and friendly.
Claire
We had a lovely time at Merley Woodland Park. The lodge was lovely and spacious and the welcome pack was a real treat!

Fun Days Out near Merley Woodland Park

The perfect place to visit on a rainy day this large Sealife Centre is currently offering 2 tickets for £15.00 when you book online. Top attractions include the amazing shark tunnel, the rock pools and the otter enclosure. This year Loch Lomond Sealife Centre is also home to Cammy - the only Giant Sea Turtle in Scotland! The centre also offers visitors an educational experience with talks and hands on events taking place daily.
about 11 Miles
Monkey World is not only a local attraction but the work they carry out is amazing.  Rescuing and rehabilitating monkeys and assisting governments around the world to stop the smuggling of primates are just some of the purposes of the centre. You get to see the primates themselves many of which have become famous from appearing on the TV show Monkey World - a documentary about this place. Open year round we think this is one of best attractions in Dorset and you even get the chance to adopt a monkey if you choose.
about 18 Miles
Kingston Maurward Gardens and Animal Park is a magical place to visit with grand gardens and plenty of animals to meet.  From goats and ponies to alpacas and pot bellied pigs this attraction is excellent value for money.  You can feel free to explore the grounds too which are especially lovely on sunny days.  You will see majestic floral displays, stone terraces, a temple and even a lake.

This family orientated museum is dedicated to Teddy Bears both old and new Edward Bear and his family of people sized bears are one of the main attractions.  You can buy teddy bear gifts from the quaint shop including top notch brands.  The Steiff Teddy Bear and Merrythought bears are very popular.  Open 7 days a week all year round (except 25th and 26th December) this is a perfect all weather place to visit.

Paultons Family Theme Park has recently been greatly improved to include many new attractions for younger visitors. The brand new Peppa Pig World features 7 amazing new rides and an Indoor Play Area to keep the little ones amused for hours. Described as the Isle of Wight's multi activity and play Farm park this attraction will really appeal to families looking for a fun day out.  Recently improvements have been made to enlarge the straw fun play barn and this is now the biggest indoor play space on the island.  This farm is now split into separate attractions, the play barns and petting farm which include rides on tractors and trailors and the tractor driving experience. Open all year this place is also excellent value for money.

You may have seen this amazing attraction on the BBC1 Animal Park programme.  This is actually the first safari park outside of Africa where you can get close to the animals from the comfort of your own car. Some of the highlights include the zebras, the wallabies in wallaby wood and the sea lion escorted cruise to Gorilla Island.  And of course the magnificent lions and tigers are a must see.  This really is an animal experience with a difference and you can save money by booking your tickets online.  This attraction is open until the end of October. Check out their website to see some fantastic video podcasts of the park.

This is an award winning attraction on the isle of wight with so much to see and do.  From thrilling rides for the whole family to challenging play for younger kids they have thought of everything.  One of the highlights is the Falconry where you can see some of the most breathtaking displays in the UK.  You can also get a taste of nature and history here from red squirrels to romans.  The great value freedon tickets are well worth the money allowing you to return to the park as often as you like for 7 days.
