If you’re looking to venture out and about there is plenty to see and do, for instance you can join the group of friendly cyclists for a ride out on a Thursday, or you could take a Broadland hot air balloon ride which fly from the site allowing you to see where you are staying and surrounding area from the skies! There are plenty of local walks where you can enjoy the stunning Norfolk scenery and you can take a pit stop at one of the many local pubs and restaurants. Don’t forget the fine city of Norwich is just a 17-mile drive away, Snetterton race track is only 4 miles away and the beautiful Norfolk broads and coastline are just over an hour’s drive from Old Buckenham Country Park.

Old Buckenham Country Park Reviews

"Really disappointed, our dog got hurt on that loose screw!"
Jessie - Mar 2025
"Honestly, we were pretty disappointed with our stay. The wooden beds in the lodge were a real letdown - they creaked and moved because the joints had come loose, which made it impossible to sleep without waking everyone up. My son ended up sleeping on the sofa since we couldnt risk the noise and by the end of the night, everyone was exhausted and grumpy. The lodges definitely need regular checks to prevent this sort of thing. The sofa was nice, but only one? That meant all four of us had to squeeze in to watch a film, which wasnt ideal. The hot tub was lovely, though - that was definitely a highlight. But the bathroom setup was a bit odd - two hooks on the door for towels? A proper towel rail wouldve been more practical, especially when towels are wet. Also, theres no insulation, so you can hear everything happening in neighbouring toilets - not the most relaxing. We spoke to reception about these issues and they seemed to know about the problems. Sadly, we cut our weekend short and headed home, feeling pretty gutted as our birthday break was ruined by these things. Wont be recommending this place again, unfortunately."
Emma Carter - Feb 2025
"We loved this lodge! It really felt like a home away from home and there was heaps of room for everyone."
Emma - Feb 2025
"Our time at Old Buckenham Country Park was really enjoyable. The lodge was spacious and spotless, with top-notch facilities. The kids loved the play area and the outdoor seating by the lake was perfect for relaxing. Plenty of space for the dogs to roam. Well definitely be back soon - a lovely spot!"
Emma - Feb 2025
"Our Old Buckenham Country Park review: Really enjoyed staying here, the lodge was perfect for the kids."
Lucy - Sep 2024
"We stayed at this lodge recently and honestly, its got a lot going for it. The main bedroom bed was super comfy and there was plenty of wardrobe space, which was handy. The outdoor area was really nice too, although the chairs couldve been a bit more comfy - some cushions wouldve been perfect! The sofa was quite low, so it wasnt the most comfortable, but it wasnt a deal-breaker. One thing we found odd was the lack of a towel rail in the bathroom - kinda strange not to have somewhere to hang towels. The kitchen was okay, but we ended up taking foil because we wouldnt have trusted the oven trays to hold our food. Theyd been cleaned, but honestly, they looked like they needed replacing. A decent chopping board and, for a fair price, a dishwasher wouldve made the place feel more luxurious. Also, a vacuum and mop wouldve helped keep things tidy. Overall, its a lovely lodge in a lovely spot and with a few little tweaks, it could be truly amazing! Still, wed definitely come back."
Alex - Sep 2024
"We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The beds were super comfy and the shower was always warm - perfect after a day exploring. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils, though we did spot a few ants, which isnt surprising in a wooden lodge in the countryside."
Emma - Apr 2024
"Really enjoyed our stay, the lodge was lovely. Only minor issue with ants, but staff responded quickly and sorted it out promptly. Would come again!"
Emma - Apr 2024
"We had a fantastic time and cant wait to return in August!"
Alex - Mar 2024
"This site is definitely worth a trip if you're nearby, honestly."
George - Mar 2024
"We loved the lodge! It was spotless, cosy and really spacious. Everything we needed was there. Just wish there was some outside lighting for the decking and hot tub area, really."
Emma Carter - Mar 2024
"We had a lovely stay and would definitely come back. Just a few things like outdoor lighting could be added, but we underst and its new and still getting everything sorted. Overall, a great experience!"
Emma Carter - Jan 2024
"We had a great time staying at Brimstone Lodge. Its spacious, beautifully decorated and really high quality. We loved how peaceful Old Buckenham Country Park was - perfect for relaxing and exploring the nearby area. Definitely planning to come back!"

Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE
about 1 Mile
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 8 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 16 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary - IP28 6HX
about 19 Miles
This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
Ickworth House, Park & Gardens - IP29 5QE
about 23 Miles
The National Trust Ickworth House, Park & Gardens is a Beautiful 1800 acre country estate with many attractions including a fantastic adventure playground for the children and a range of nature trails which the whole family will enjoy. The site also has a family friendly cycle route a gift shop and a small café
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 23 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 25 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 27 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park - NR32 4TZ
about 28 Miles
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.
Sheringham Park - NR26 8TL
about 31 Miles
The National Trust Sheringham Park in Norfolk was designed by Humphry Repton and the book of original designs can still be seen. The park has many attractions including a viewing tower and a gazebo with amazing coastal views, wildlife trails which young children will love and an exhibition barn where visitors can learn the history of the park.
National Horse Racing Museum - CB8 8JL
about 31 Miles
This is a museum with a difference and a must see if you are into horse racing.  You can take guided tours around the museum or choose to wander round yourself admiring the exhibits.  New for 2010 is a Junior Fun Tour which is ideal for children.  Simply ask the gallery staff for a Fun Tour pack when you enter the museum and kids can answer questions and spot clues and tips on the way round.  One of the most popular recent exhibitions is the Thoroughbred: State of the Art exhibition in Gallery 5 on until 31st October.  Check out their websites for the latest exhibitions.
Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 33 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
