Waveney River Centre Reviews

"Overall, we found the place pretty comfortable and the living space was nice. That said, the bed was a bit snug with just a queen size - a double would have been better for us. The kitchen could do with more utensils like a potato peeler, wooden spoons and proper lids for the saucepans. Still, its a decent spot for a short stay!"
Emma - Mar 2025
"Honestly, we were really disappointed with our stay. The lodge was in a pretty poor state - mould was everywhere, even inside the wardrobe, which was pretty grim. The cleanliness was lacking, with rusty, dirty blinds and a stained sofa that looked grubby. The hot tub was a complete write-off; full of dirt and slime and the jets didnt work at all. Safety was also a concern - the outside decking railings werent secure, which felt dangerous and the shower door was broken, making it tricky to use. The ensuite sink tap was broken and a window along with the door had blown double glazing, causing condensation and a rubbish view. The bedroom wallpaper was peeling and the shelves in all the rooms werent secure - quite unsafe really. Overall, not what we expected and we wouldnt stay again in its current state!"
Emily Carter - Mar 2025
"We visited Waveney River Centre during February half term 2025. Since it was winter, we knew things might be a bit quiet, but luckily the weather stayed dry. The foot ferry wasnt running most of the time, except for one occasion when reception kindly sorted us out to visit the nearby marshes. The pool was a real highlight - we even had it all to ourselves at one point! The on-site restaurant was pretty good, too. That said, the lodge itself wasnt in the best shape - it looked a bit worn out and cleanliness wasnt great; we found sticky tables in the dining area and had to rewash all the crockery because it was a bit grim. The bedrooms are tiny, especially the twin rooms - they felt quite cramped with very little storage, which made it feel a bit chaotic. Also, be ready for a bit of a trek since theres nothing much nearby; the nearest supermarket is about 30 minutes away. The shop on-site could do with an upgrade, especially considering that. Check-in hours are from 4 to 5 pm, which felt a bit tight - we arrived a little later due to traffic, but staff kindly arranged for us to get in and pick up the key. Overall, its a mixed bag!"
Alex - Feb 2025
"The lodge was lovely overall, but no free WiFi was a bit frustrating. Paying extra for it on one device was pricey. The location by the river meant flood risks and the approach was via narrow, single-track roads. Still enjoyed it, though!"
Emma Roberts - Feb 2025
"Our Waveney River Centre review: The place was spotless and exactly as described online. The hot tub was well looked after during our stay. Honestly, its much larger than the pictures suggest!"
Alex - Jan 2025
"The place was just as described, super clean and really roomy. Peaceful surroundings!"
Oliver Bennett - Jan 2025
"We stayed at this lodge recently and honestly, it had its ups and downs. The place itself is pretty spacious and well-equipped, with plenty of kitchen utensils, tea bags, coffee sachets and even a tiny washing up liquid bottle to get you started. Its clear theyve thought about what guests might need. That said, you can see signs of wear and tear here and there, which was a bit disappointing. The Christmas tree was a lovely touch, really festive and cosy. The hot tub is decent in size but sadly, its not in the best spot. You have to access it from the main door, not the patio and its right in front of the driveway, so no privacy at all. There are no screens or outdoor lights, so after 4pm in December, its pretty much dark and you end up turning on your car lights just to see what youre doing when taking the cover off. We didnt get to use it as much as we might have liked, mainly because its so awkward to get to and not very private. Plus, the plot itself was overgrown and in the dark, I had to carefully climb through brambles to reach the hot tub, which wasnt ideal. Overall, its a nice place, but a few tweaks would make a big difference. We probably wouldnt go back just for the hot tub situation, honestly."
Emma - Dec 2024
"We had a fantastic stay over Christmas! The house was spacious and spotless, everything we needed was there. The bedrooms with en suites were so comfy and the hot jacuzzi was just perfect for the chilly weather. Loved it!"
Emma - Dec 2024
"Were big fans of Waveney River Centre, this is actually our third visit and were already planning the next! The place has such a peaceful vibe, perfect for relaxing in nature. The lodges are spacious and kept in great condition, plus theres a lovely restaurant and indoor pool that our kids adored. The only thing is, the local shop has shrunk quite a bit, so its best to stock up beforehand. Luckily, Beccles is only about 20 minutes away with supermarkets and great cafes - Twyfords is a must! We love it here."
Harriet - Nov 2024
"The place looked tidy at first, but once we moved the bed for the travel cot, it was really grimy with food waste underneath."
Alex - Oct 2024
"The lodge was pretty decent, really close to the neighbouring one with the hot tub overlooking it, but luckily, no one was using it. Its a simple place, but we liked it."
Sam - Oct 2024
"We had a lovely stay! The kids (aged 5 and 7) adored watching the ducks and swans from the lodge-it was so peaceful. The playground onsite kept them happily busy for a while too. Definitely somewhere we'd visit again!"
Emma - Oct 2024
"Overall, its a lovely place, though the showers in the pool area looked a bit worn out and the hot tub was out of order. Still, we had a great time!"
Emma - Oct 2024
"Overall, quite pleased with our purchase. The settees could be a bit firmer and the fridge lacked door shelves. Still, lovely stuff overall!"
Emma Roberts - Oct 2024
"We had a lovely week at Wavney River Centre. Its quite peaceful, perfect for families and dogs are welcome which is a big plus for us. The pool is a bit on the small side, but we managed to swim a few times and enjoyed it. Booking a lodge with a hot tub turned out to be a great decision, everyone loved it! The pub nearby serves solid pub grub and the little shop covers the basics, so no complaints there. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside was the wifi-paying extra for unreliable connection was a bit frustrating. The access road is narrow, so reversing sometimes was necessary when meeting tractors, but once out, we explored Beccles, Lowestoft and Gorleston beach easily. Overall, a good stay!"
Emma - Aug 2024
"We had a fantastic week at Burgh Staith with a big group of us. The place was super spacious, perfect for 10 of us and kept really clean. The en-suites and bathrooms made things easy and the kitchen had everything we needed - pots, pans, cutlery, you name it. The hot tub was a real highlight, especially for the little ones who loved spending most of their time in it. Wed definitely come back if were in the area again, no doubt!"
Emma - Aug 2024
"We stayed at Broadview Lodge recently and really enjoyed it. The layout was spot on, super cosy for us and our dog. The hot tub felt very private thanks to good screening and the deck had lovely views of the countryside-it was a great stay!"
James - Jul 2024
"Clean and bright"
Emma Clarke - Jul 2024
"Really enjoyed the stay, would definitely return."
Emma - Jun 2024
"While the place is really peaceful, its quite remote, which can be a bit of a downside. We were lucky with the weather, but if it had rained, the only walks are along narrow country roads or field footpaths-not ideal in wet weather. Still, a quiet spot."
James - Jun 2024
"Lovely lodge overall, just the flues can be annoying."
Emma Carter - Jun 2024
"Comfortable enough, but its getting worn."
Emma - Apr 2024
"Great experience, would do again."
Emma - Mar 2024
"The lodge was quite spacious, which we appreciated. There were a few minor maintenance hiccups, but they sorted them fast. Cleanliness was decent, though a more thorough clean wouldnt hurt really."
Emma - Mar 2024
"Nice staff, cosy spot, perfect for a quick stay."
James - Feb 2024
"We stayed here from 19th to 23rd February and while we know its out of season, it did feel a bit cramped with so many lodges packed into such a small area. The hot tub was definitely a highlight - really relaxing - but we couldnt help feeling a bit exposed, as everyone could see us from all angles. A little more privacy wouldve made a big difference. The weather wasnt great, which meant the ferry wasnt running, so walking options were limited to just the single track road - which we chose to skip. The lodge itself was spotlessly clean and looked after well, so no complaints there. The only downside was the WiFi - it was quite patchy, sometimes you could get online, sometimes not. All in all, we had a nice stay and enjoyed our time here despite the few quirks!"
Alex - Feb 2024
"We stayed at the lodge recently and, honestly, it was okay overall. There were a few basic things missing, like a washing up bowl, dish cloth, bedside lamps and hand soap, which was a bit disappointing. Some of the kitchenware, such as the pan, kettle and knives, had loose handles, so they could do with some fixing. The WiFi was pretty weak, especially at the back of the house and you had to pay extra for internet, with a £5 charge per additional device, which isnt ideal for a family with multiple gadgets. On the plus side, the shop and swimming pool were great and the staff responded quickly when we raised issues. Oh and the hot tub was drained and turned off when we left, which was a shame. Still, we had a lovely holiday overall!"
Emily Carter - Feb 2024
"Great stay, would recommend"
Emma Collins - Jan 2024
"We really enjoyed our visit, but honestly, 45 minutes of swimming feels pretty rushed. Would love a longer session next time!"
Claire - Jan 2024
"Really friendly check-in, after a call to say our lodge was available early - which was a bonus. The location is quite remote and you need a car to get around."
CAROLINE - Aug 2022
"Beautiful location and views, Our lodge with hot tub was very lovely and clean x We had the perfect week Thank you we will be coming back soon x"
Victora - Jun 2022
"Lodge was I the perfect location and lovely, great views and ideal for us as couples and our dog. The kitchen was well equipped and loved having home comfort like the dishwasher. Only a couple of things not 100% the recliner sofa was broken in recliner position (but not a real problem) The bed in the bedroom with the un suite was to low and big for the room, the post at the end, kept walking into and covered on bruises. A divan would work better. The swimming pool was small but warm and as booking a spot was perfect for a quick dip and not busy. The staff from reception to bar staff all very helpful and friendly. The restaurant had a limited menu but food was good and went to the extra help to accommodate our dietary needs. We hired a boat for 4 hours and this is a must the mist wonderful day and a great experience. Again could not fault it. All in all had the most relaxing, chilling four days. Just what we all needed."
Tracey - Jun 2022
"We had the best relaxing holiday in barn owl lodge and we will definitely return again From the ladies that lunch xx"
Sue - Jun 2022
"Lovely lodge with great views across the marse land.Had cows close by.Saw deers and different birds.Spacious lodge especially having a big doggie Nice and clean .Everything worked and was good having freezer separate to fridge so lots of space .Need to drive as there’s nothing much close by eg supermarkets ,restaurants.Nice walks over the marse land. You get a little boat that takes you across the water to get to the marsh land."
Karen - Jun 2022
"We have a fabulous time, this is the second time we have stayed at Waveney (this time as a family) the lodge was clean and well equipped, the hot tub was a hit with the whole family, we also used the pool this time which was also clean and staff friendly. The only downside this stay was the pub wasn’t serving food we where looking forward to walking down for a evening meal and with having children this time I was disappointed with the play area"

Attractions Near Waveney River Centre

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Waveney River Centre. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park - NR32 4TZ
about 3 Miles
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.
Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 4 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 17 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE
about 26 Miles
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 27 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary - IP28 6HX
about 30 Miles
This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 31 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
Sheringham Park - NR26 8TL
about 36 Miles
The National Trust Sheringham Park in Norfolk was designed by Humphry Repton and the book of original designs can still be seen. The park has many attractions including a viewing tower and a gazebo with amazing coastal views, wildlife trails which young children will love and an exhibition barn where visitors can learn the history of the park.
