Sherwood Castle Holiday Forest Reviews

"Absolutely love this for my dog! Will return."
Marcus - Mar 2025
"We loved the rustic feel, it really felt like a proper log cabin getaway. Everything was spotless and working perfectly, making it super cosy and charming overall."
Emma Carter - Dec 2024
"Honestly, our stay was pretty disappointing overall. One of the bedrooms was unacceptably dirty - we found used ear buds on the floor and under the bed, which was gross. When we arrived, they were setting up a Halloween event and we were told to come back later because it wouldnt be ready. When we did return, we were told our kids couldnt go in because it needed to be booked online, which no one mentioned beforehand - pretty frustrating. After we got home, we realised wed left a jacket on the back of a bedroom door. I rang up to ask about it, but I had to chase them several times. The woman on reception kept saying shed call me back after speaking to the cleaner, but she never did. Eventually, I was sent a jacket that wasnt ours and they claimed no other jacket was found. The only conclusion is that the staff must have taken it. Reception even admitted no one had stayed in that cabin after us. Honestly, wouldnt recommend this place at all - just not a great experience!"
Emma Parker - Nov 2024
"The lodge was super cosy and spotless, we really felt at home straight away. Grounds are lovely!"
Emily - Oct 2024
"Our Sherwood Castle Holiday Forest review: We decided to have a quick last-minute getaway with the dog and this place turned out to be a lovely surprise! The hot tub was a great bonus we werent expecting at all. When we arrived, everything was spotless and ready to go, which made settling in so easy. The surrounding area is perfect for walking-Rufford Abbey was a highlight and we even spotted some deer close to the lodge. The staff were super friendly and made sure the hot tub was checked daily. Sadly, our dog picked up harvest mites, which made her quite unwell, but thats just bad luck and not the fault of the accommodation. Just a heads up to other dog owners to keep an eye out for them at this time of year!"
Sam - Oct 2024
"We had such a relaxing break here! The lodge was spotless and cosy and the hot tub was a real treat. We didnt bother with the site facilities, just used it as a base for exploring. Cant wait to come back next year!"
Claire Roberts - Oct 2024
"We loved the cosy vibe of the lodge! The outdoor area was perfect for the dogs and kids and the log burner kept us warm all weekend."
Emily - Oct 2024
"Great place to stay, plenty to explore nearby!"
Emma Clarke - Aug 2024
"We had a fantastic stay with four generations, from tiny 4-year-olds to a 93-year-old, plus our dog. Both lodges, Forester 4 Pet 44 and 45, were spotless and spacious, with private hot tubs and secure gates on the decking to keep the dog safe. We loved visiting the animals, swimming, playing tennis and exploring the woods around the site. The outdoor areas were great for the kids and staff were always friendly and helpful. The only extra cost was for icecreams - a lovely touch!"
Harper - Jul 2024
"The place was really lovely-spotless, comfy and perfect for families with dogs. The structure was solid and the facilities were well thought out. We honestly couldnt ask for more!"
Laura - Jun 2024
"We had a lovely time! The place was spotlessly clean and well maintained, which made us feel comfortable. The kids loved feeding the animals, exploring the woods and playing at the parks. The pool was a decent size for private hire, though they sometimes wanted a bit more than the half-hour. Staff were super friendly and helpful too."
Lucy - Feb 2024
"We stayed here recently and its definitely a budget option, kinda like centre parks-lite. The hot water was a bit unreliable in our cabin, which was annoying. The cleaning couldve been better too - found food bits in the dishwasher from previous guests. On the plus side, the pool was great and booking it per cabin meant we had it all to ourselves, which was lovely!"
Emma Carter - Jan 2024
"We've been coming to this park every New Year for a decade now. The kids really enjoy the freedom to run around and discover new things. Its a lovely spot, easy to get to and the staff are always friendly. Only thing is, it could use some updates, like pool heating and a little cafe for a coffee or cake while the kids play. Would be perfect!"
Emma - Jan 2024
"We found the stay really comfy and enjoyable. The accommodation was nice, though itd be great if there were options for bunk beds or two singles in a room. The kitchen was functional but quite basic and the shop on-site could do with more essentials like bread, milk and butter-more sweets and fizzy drinks too. The staff at the castle were super relaxed and flexible with booking activities, which was a bonus!"
Emma Roberts - Jan 2024
"We loved visiting during Christmas! The forest walk was perfect for the dogs and the lodge was cosy to relax in afterwards. Definitely a great spot!"
Alex - Jan 2024
"We had a lovely break over Christmas with beautiful walks and peaceful surroundings. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Its a shame the prices are nearly double next year though!"
Emma Carter - Jan 2024
"We had a really peaceful and quiet stay, which was just what we needed. The site was spotless and the staff super helpful. If you're after lively shops or bars, this isnt the place for you - its all about the calm, with just the sound of trees and birds. We loved the walks and our dog had a fantastic time exploring. Were already planning to return to the same cabin soon!"
Jamie - Dec 2023
"We really enjoyed our stay; the location was beautiful and peaceful. Our dog loved exploring the nearby walks. The place was spotless and the log burner was perfect for chilly evenings. Thanks for the lovely welcome tray!"
Emma - Dec 2023
"The lodge wasnt as clean as we hoped-dust in the corners and the shower grout could do with a proper scrub or replacing. Also, some extra lights would be handy to see better when heading to the cabin at night."
Chris - Nov 2023
"Really enjoyed exploring this good place, such a peaceful spot."
Steve - Nov 2023
"We recently spent a couple of nights here with my 9-year-old niece, who has some additional needs. Honestly, I was a bit hesitant booking after reading mixed reviews, but I have to say, we were really pleased. The cabin was spotless and had everything we could possibly need. Its tucked away in a peaceful spot, which was just perfect for us. My niece adored exploring the woods and the different play areas, while we enjoyed the quiet and stunning surroundings. Booking the swimming pool for just our family was such a bonus - she loved it! Its true, this place doesnt have all the fancy facilities of some larger parks, but thats kind of what made it special for us - very laid-back and relaxing. The grounds were well looked after, even with some maintenance work happening, but it didnt bother us at all. Everyone we spoke to was super helpful and friendly, which made our stay even better. Well definitely be coming back!"
Emma - Nov 2023
"We really enjoyed our stay here! The place was super peaceful, clean and we loved having the pool all to ourselves. The only small issues were the sofas feeling a bit outdated and the duvet cover in the main bedroom could have been a tad bigger. Overall, it was a lovely visit, although maybe a long weekend suits better than a whole week with teenagers. Wed come back!"
Emma - Nov 2023
"Weve stayed at Sherwood Castle a few times and always look forward to relaxing breaks there. Everything was fantastic this time, apart from the beds which werent the most comfy. We also noticed no ironing boards or irons in the cabins, which was a bit of a surprise since they were usually provided. The kitchen utensils were quite sparse too, but honestly, these are just small niggles. We had a great time overall and will definitely return, though maybe bring our own iron next time!"
Emma Clarke - Nov 2023
"Weve been coming to Sherwood Castle a few times now and honestly, its a lovely spot. The location is perfect for a relaxing break. This visit, we saw some pretty big changes - new hot tubs and saunas being added and the cabins look like theyve been freshly painted and spruced up. Its interesting to see how things will evolve under new management. The forest nearby is really pretty and while we found the pool slots a bit tight with only 30-minute windows, we do appreciate the two-cabin booking system - its fair for everyone. Having a proper dining place would be a great addition, fingers crossed they sort that out. Theres plenty to do around, so its a solid base for exploring. Its a bit of a shame about the ford being closed off, as that was a fun little spot to visit. Overall, we really enjoy it here!"
Charlie - Nov 2023
"Our stay was truly fantastic! The location was perfect, with lovely woodl and walks nearby. It was so peaceful, exactly what we needed. Loved every minute!"
Emily Carter - Nov 2023
"We had such a lovely stay! The location was perfect for exploring the places we wanted to visit and the cabin felt really cosy and inviting. Our 14-year-old loved all the sports options available, which was a big plus for us. The staff were super friendly and helpful, making us feel right at home. Thanks for a great experience! Definitely coming back."
Emily Carter - Nov 2023
"Nice, simple and honest"
Oliver Jenkins - Nov 2023
"Really enjoyed our stay at the lodge."
Samira Collins - Nov 2023
"Weve just come back from our second stay here and honestly, this time we got a different lodge - and it was even better! The place felt more spacious and the furnishings were top-notch. We really couldnt find anything to complain about at all. The cleanliness was impressive, especially around the food prep areas, touch surfaces, toilet, sinks, sofas and beds - everything was spotless. I always do a quick check myself and I have to say, it was probably the cleanest place weve stayed in ages. Even the under-rim of the toilet was gleaming! Now, Ill be honest - there was a very faint dog smell in one of the bedrooms, but it was so subtle we probably only noticed because we dont have a dog ourselves. As for the spiders and cobwebs, well, youre in a forest, so expecting perfect hotel standards isnt really fair. There were some tree seeds, flies, woodlice - typical for a woodl and cabin. My husb and tried cleaning the outside bench, only to find it covered in seeds and bird poo 20 minutes later. Natures messy, what can you do?Indoor facilities are pretty good - theres a pool, tennis and badminton courts, skittles and a play area. Some activities are free, others have a small charge for a 30-minute slot, which is very reasonable. The outdoor facilities are still a work in progress; the mini golf could use some TLC and theres no archery yet. But theyre clearly upgrading things and we hear everything should be finished by summer 2024, including new paintwork, a restaurant, expanded pool area and outside eating spots. Were definitely planning to return once all thats done - cant wait to see the improvements!"
Emma Carter - Nov 2023
"Lovely chilled out few days, location is superb with little parks dotted about in the woods. Kids really enjoyed having the pool to themselves as booked 30 minute slots. Will definitely be returning ?"
Wendy - Aug 2022
"Great little holiday park in nice surroundings. Lots of outdoors paths trails and parks. Lodge was generally ok. There was signs of damp and lack of high level cleaning (cob webs) in lodges and customer areas which could be improved."
Michael - Aug 2022
"Spent a long weekend here and totally enjoyed it. Would recommend"
Emma - Jul 2022
"This is our 4th time staying here and we love it! The lodges are quite basic but in a fantastic location."
Helen - Jul 2022
"The cabin was lovely and clean the cleanest I ever stayed in the location was good will go back next year"
Sharon - Jul 2022
"Nice place to stay for holidays."
Anzella - Jul 2022
"We really enjoyed our holiday at Sherwood castle and would recommend it to any young family. The site has great facilities including the pool and tennis courts although some of the outdoor activities has taken a beaten due to COVID. The lodges themselves are well acceptable for the price and I believe are due to be revamped over the next year. The site is centrally located with numerous towns and cities all within an hour's drive. Also Sherwood pines and the Sherwood forest visitor centre are less than 10 minutes away. The best part of Sherwood Castle is the staff. They are genuine nice people who have great knowledge of the area and help a lot. I would recommend this site."
Thomas - Jul 2022
"Lovely little holiday park with lots of activities for all of the family."
Hazel - Jul 2022
