Eating Out

Falmouth is the place to be to catch a taste of the incredible seafood, fresh from the South Coast. Hooked on the Rocks is one place where these Cornish delicacies are on offer. With a snug yet stylish interior and sustainably sourced produce, you are sure to be more than satisfied by this restaurant. It is even dog friendly, so there is no need to leave your pooch out of the action. If you’re looking for something a little lighter, why not head to the Courtyard Deli and Kitchen. Here you can sample more of the amazing local produce from charcuterie, pies and cakes; ideal for a pre-swim bite.

There is also a range of quirky eateries in Falmouth which will add an extra element to your trip away. If you love fairy tales, why not try the Alice in Wonderland themed Chintz bar for an afternoon drink and nibble. Sample some of the famous Cornish cider and a range of specially selected wines. A final restaurant that is high in popularity is Rick Steins seafood restaurant. With ample seating looking over the harbour, this restaurant is located in the heart of Falmouth, making it easily accessible for holiday makers. The beautifully prepared food here will not disappoint.

Beaches

There are three main beaches within walking distance of Falmouth centre. The first of these is Swanpool beach. Thanks to its shallow waters it’s the ideal place to launch a stand up paddle board or kayak, to experience Falmouth from a different angle. With ample parking just across the road, it is easily accessible for all to enjoy. It is also home to Hooked on the Rocks providing stunning views from the restaurant windows. Another of Falmouth’s lovely beaches is Gyllyngvase. Boasting some of the whitest sand in the UK and more incredible sea views this beach is very popular in the summer months.

With the addition of a café and snack bar, there is no reason to leave this beach, providing you can resist a walk through the quaint village centre. Finally, there is the dramatic Castle beach. Rocky and covered at high tide, it boasts an air of mystery. Any inquisitive child will be captivated by the many rockpools in that appear at low tide. As with many beaches in Cornwall, dog bans operate on all of the Falmouth beaches at some times of the year, so best to check before heading there with your four-legged friend.

Attractions

Apart from the luscious beaches and the town itself, Falmouth is home to some excellent tourist attractions. One of the most notable is the National Maritime Museum. Here you can get a feel for the incredible history that surrounds the Cornish coast, as well as the people who made it happen. With a large variety in exhibits, there will be something for both children and adults in your group. Pendennis Castle is another visually striking Falmouth attraction. Built by Henry VIII this castle has remained in incredible condition through the years.

Take your journey into the future with the Falmouth Art Gallery. Displaying artwork from the old masters to contemporary artists, there are plenty of exhibits to enjoy. Situated above a library in one of Falmouth’s Municipal Buildings, the essence of this small coastal town is really brought to life.

Falmouth has an abundance of charm and character, as well as some incredible activities and natural beauty on offer. Whether you want to enjoy the cultural side at Pendennis castle and the local eateries, or be more adventurous and hire a kayak or go rock pooling, your trip has the opportunity to be anything you make it.
