This is a superb location for exploring the very best that North Yorkshire and the Dales have to offer. Nestling within a beautiful lakeside setting and close to the Pennine Way, Brimham Rocks and the towering 300 foot high Malham Cove, these oh-so-stylish lodges have private decking areas, hot tubs and extremely luxurious interiors. Cedar Retreats (formerly West Tanfield Lodges) are around 15 miles from Harrogate, an elegant town that is home to the stunning ruins of Fountains Abbey and where you’ll find a great walk along the Low Harrogate Spa Trail.

Cedar Retreats (formerly West Tanfield Lodges) are a perfect retreat for couples because of its quiet rural setting and its proximity to the Yorkshire Moors and Dales. There are some beautiful market towns that are well worth visiting; Skipton has one of the most complete and well preserved medieval castles in England with a beautiful Tudor courtyard.

We love Daleside Lodge with its contemporary design and stunning interior. It has a spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a large twin room. Every detail has been carefully considered for comfort and convenience, such as WiFi access, an iPod docking station, flat screen TV and DVD - and a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. And of course, it has its own private deck with patio furniture and outdoor hot tub with beautiful views across the lake.

The Yorkshire Dales is renowned for its amazing landscape, classic walks and delightful towns. Bolton Abbey in Skipton has around 30,000 acres of beautiful countryside with 80 miles of footpaths as well as excellent restaurants, tea rooms and cafes. If you fancy a thrill, visit Lightwater Valley Theme Park with its line-up of white-knuckle rides and Europe’s longest rollercoaster - or you could opt for some serious pampering at the Victorian Turkish Baths in Harrogate.

Cedar Retreats (formerly West Tanfield Lodges) Reviews

"Lovely place, great spot, well kitted out, just a bit dusty inside."
Emma - Mar 2025
"Charming spot, will visit again"
Emma - Mar 2025
"Overall, we had a lovely stay at the lodge. It was well-equipped and comfortable, with the hot tub being a real highlight. The only minor issue was the shortage of toilet rolls - with four of us, two rolls didnt quite cover it. Apart from that, everything was spot on and we genuinely enjoyed our time there. Would definitely recommend!"
Emma Richards - Mar 2025
"Cozy stay, loved it"
Emma - Mar 2025
"Our Cedar Retreats (formerly West Tanfield Lodges) review: Initially, we needed to do a quick clean when we arrived, but it was nothing serious. The cabin was spacious and really lovely. We had such a great time, its a shame to leave!"
Emma - Mar 2025
"Overall pretty decent stay, but we ran out of towels and toilet paper. Reception was closed, so unsure if we could have asked for extras."
Sam - Mar 2025
"We really enjoyed our stay here. The lodge was spotless and well-maintained and the hot tub was a lovely bonus. The quietness suited us perfectly and the walks right from the door were fantastic. Plus, the village has a couple of cosy spots to grab a drink or bite to eat - just a mile away. Definitely recommend for a relaxing getaway!"
Tom - Mar 2025
"Really enjoyed our stay, the place was spotless and felt super cosy. Quiet spot too! Hot tub was fab."
Emma - Feb 2025
"Really enjoyed our stay, highly recommend it!"
Emma - Feb 2025
"The lodge was really lovely, spacious rooms and an amazing view of the lake. Everything we needed was there plus a fantastic hot tub!"
Laura - Feb 2025
"We stayed at this lodge recently and honestly, its lovely. The hot tub was definitely a highlight! Some furniture might need a refresh, but everything else was spot on - clean, functional and well-equipped with all the appliances. The heating was a bit unpredictable, but the place stayed cosy enough. Wed come back!"
Emma - Feb 2025
"The cabin had pretty much everything we needed and the decking was a real highlight - loved knowing our dog was safe. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The hot tub was a bit temperamental, but overall, wed definitely come back for another stay!"
Emma - Jan 2025
"Really enjoyed our stay"
James - Jan 2025
"The lodge was a bit below their usual autograph level, definitely needs some extra TLC. Still, we enjoyed it!"
Emma Carter - Jan 2025
"Really enjoyed our stay, the lodge was spotless, comfy and had everything we needed. Lovely!"
Emma - Jan 2025
"We had a fantastic stay! The hot tub overlooking the lake was perfect and the cabin had everything we needed. Only downside was the creaking beds, but overall, it was a lovely break. Well definitely come back!"
Emily - Dec 2024
"We chose this lodge mainly because of its peaceful location, tucked away from the busy spots, which we really appreciated. The set-up with two doubles and a twin suited our group perfectly. The kitchen had everything we needed and the hot tub, recently replaced, was a real treat. Just a little fencing around it for more privacy would be perfect!"
Emma Taylor - Dec 2024
"We stayed at the lodge recently and could see some of the soft furnishings, especially the sofas, are a bit worn out and could do with replacing. The bathroom floors also need some attention, with blackened silicone seals and a few repairs. Overall, its still a lovely place, but its starting to look a little tired. With a few updates, itd be fantastic again!"
Emma - Dec 2024
"Honestly, this was one of the nicest stays weve had in ages. From the moment we arrived, everything was smooth - parking was easy and checking in was quick and friendly. The lodge felt just like a home away from home, fully equipped with everything you could need to cook up a storm and relax. The hot tub was absolutely spot on - kept perfectly clean, hot and with the most stunning views to unwind with. We originally booked for a girls weekend, but the staffs helpfulness really blew us away, especially since our original booking was cancelled just five hours before check-in. Cedar Retreats really pulled out all the stops to save the day and were so grateful. Definitely coming back with the family soon. Thanks a million for making it special!"
Emma - Nov 2024
"We had a lovely stay overall. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed, which was really handy. The hot tub was definitely the highlight - we used it every day! The lodge was pretty clean, just a few cobwebs here and there. Though, finding a previous guests bathing suit in the bathroom did make us wonder if it was thoroughly cleaned before we arrived."
Emma - Nov 2024
"We loved how central everything was - Leyburn, Thirsk, Knaresborough and the Arboretum were all easily reachable. The local pub, The Bruce, had really tasty food and a lovely vibe. The hot tub was definitely the best part - perfect for unwinding after a busy day exploring or shopping. Definitely recommend!"
Emma - Nov 2024
"We loved the lodge! Its beautifully decorated and super spacious. The kitchen and dining space are well laid out, making everything feel really comfortable and not cramped at all."
Emma - Nov 2024
"We really enjoyed our stay! The lodge was super comfy and had everything we needed. The hot tub was a highlight, just a bit more outdoor lighting would be perfect."
Emily - Oct 2024
"Overall, we had a lovely stay. The place was almost perfect, but the crockery felt a bit plain - some nicer china wouldve made it feel more special. Also, the lake view was pretty hidden behind the plants, which was a bit disappointing. Still, good experience!"
Sarah - Sep 2024
"Really enjoyed our stay! The lodge was huge and had everything we could think of. Hot tub was fantastic!"
Sarah - Sep 2024
"We stayed at Daleside Lodge and honestly, it ticked all the boxes. The rooms were huge and spotless, with comfy furniture. Parking was a breeze-plenty of space for two cars, which isnt always the case. The lodges are well spaced out too, so it feels private. Overall, really enjoyable!"
James - Sep 2024
"We've stayed here a few times now and really love the location and the lovely area around it. Some of the couches could do with a refresh and the beds are a bit firm for us, but overall, we've had great stays and plan to keep coming back for our Yorkshire trips!"
Emma Collins - Aug 2024
"We had a lovely stay at this lodge. The beds were really comfy and it had all the essentials for a relaxing holiday. The hot tub was a highlight, with stunning views of the fields - perfect for unwinding! The utensils provided were sufficient and the oven, though a bit loud when on, did the job. The only downside was the privacy fences - theyre quite see-through, so not much privacy there. Also, we had to do a quick sweep for spiders and webs, but thats just part of the charm in a rural setting. Overall, a peaceful spot thats definitely worth a visit!"
Emma - Aug 2024
"We loved the peaceful lakeside setting; its such a calming spot in the countryside. There are some great attractions nearby and the local pubs serve fantastic food. The lodge had everything we needed and were definitely planning to come back soon. Thanks a lot!"

"Possibly the best lodge we have been too. It was absolutely immaculate and very spacious. The views over the lake are beautiful and the hot tub is large and is checked every day. Staff were friendly and the location is perfect for families. There’s so much to do within a 10 minute drive. We had a fantastic holiday and will definitely be back."
