This is a superb location for exploring the very best that North Yorkshire and the Dales have to offer. Nestling within a beautiful lakeside setting and close to the Pennine Way, Brimham Rocks and the towering 300 foot high Malham Cove, these oh-so-stylish lodges have private decking areas, hot tubs and extremely luxurious interiors. Cedar Retreats (formerly West Tanfield Lodges) are a perfect retreat for couples because of its quiet rural setting and its proximity to the Yorkshire Moors and Dales. There are some beautiful market towns that are well worth visiting; Skipton has one of the most complete and well preserved medieval castles in England with a beautiful Tudor courtyard.

We love Daleside Lodge with its contemporary design and stunning interior. It has a spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a large twin room. Every detail has been carefully considered for comfort and convenience, such as WiFi access, an iPod docking station, flat screen TV and DVD - and a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. And of course, it has its own private deck with patio furniture and outdoor hot tub with beautiful views across the lake.

The Yorkshire Dales is renowned for its amazing landscape, classic walks and delightful towns. Bolton Abbey in Skipton has around 30,000 acres of beautiful countryside with 80 miles of footpaths as well as excellent restaurants, tea rooms and cafes. If you fancy a thrill, visit Lightwater Valley Theme Park with its line-up of white-knuckle rides and Europe’s longest rollercoaster - or you could opt for some serious pampering at the Victorian Turkish Baths in Harrogate.

Cedar Retreats (formerly West Tanfield Lodges) Reviews

"We purposely book this lodge as we like the location, tucked out of the way. 2 double rooms and one twin which is exactly what we want for our party. Kitchen is well equipped. Hot tub recently replaced.Only improvement would be some fencing around the hot tub for added privacy"
Donna - Dec 2024
"As per main comments, some of the soft furnishings, particularly the sofas are past their best and require renewal. Both bathrooms flooring could do with replacement and some remedial work to address blackened silicone sealant etc. is required. The lodge is still nice but starting to look slightly tired in places. Not a big task to get it to an excellent standard once again."
Fiona - Dec 2024
"This has to be the best lodge I have ever stayed in, it was absolutely perfect from parking to leaving, the lodge itself was a home away from it had everything you needed to cook and enjoy, the hot tub was clean hot and views to die for, the staff checking in was so helpful and kind and had a really good chat about things near by, this was for a girls weekend but I will definitely be back with my family for another stay ???? thank you so much because we hadn't booked here but our accommodation was cancelled 5 hours before check in and cedar retreats jumped in and saved the day and I'm so glad they did, so thank you to everyone at cedar retreats you've truly spoilt us ????"
Kimberley - Nov 2024
"Overall the lodge was lovely. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you might need. The hot tub was an amazing addition to our lodge and was used daily throughout our trip. The cleanliness wasn't too bad just a few cobwebs around but a previous guests bathing suit was found in the bathroom on arrival, which raised concerns if the bathroom has been cleaned properly."
Victoria - Nov 2024
"Its very central to visit many places, Leyburn, Thirsk, Arboretum , Knaresborough to name just a few. The local pub The Bruce serves quality food and the atmosphere is great. The hot tub was very nice and private and I think was the highlight of the stay to relax after a day shopping or sightseeing."
Diane - Nov 2024
"A beautiful lodge perfectly equipt. Very spacious and comfortable. The rooms were a great size and the layout of the kitchen, dining area didnt feel cramp."
Stephanie - Nov 2024
"Lovely comfortable and well equipped lodge with a great hot tub. Could do with a few more lights outside for night time hot tubbing."
Kate - Oct 2024
"Everything was almost perfect, if I had one criticism it would be that the crockery was very utilitarian, for that added bit of luxury china would be nice. The lake view was virtually non existent due to the planting around the lakeside."
Wendy - Sep 2024
"The lodge was very spacious and equipped with everything we needed, hot tub was amazing"
Emma - Sep 2024
"Daleside Lodge has everything you need. Comfortable furniture, spacious rooms all utensils and is very clean and tidy.Parking was for two cars with ours, and you could actually fit two cars (unlike some places).Plenty of space between lodges so you don't feel hemmed in.Overall, perfect."
Michael - Sep 2024
"A lovely basic lodge. Beds are comfortable and it has the facilities needed for holiday. Amazing hot tub with views of fields. Those slat fences that are supposed to be privacy fences are a waste of time though. Can see through them. Plenty of utensils. Oven was incredibly noisy when on. Leather sofas not the most comfortable and the smart to was so slow and kept cutting off YouTube. Had to do a good sweep of spiders and spider webs everywhere. However these small minor details didnt inhibit the fact that this lodge is comfortable peaceful and a great place to stay in."
Verified Guest - Aug 2024
"A wonderful setting by the lake in a peaceful area of the countryside. Some very good attractions close by, backed up by excellent dining facilities in the local pubs. The lodge was well equipped, and had everything we needed.Thank you - we will certainly visit again in the future."
Rita - Jul 2024
"From start to finish no issues with getting there, retrieving the key, perfect local, onsite facilities beautiful! Stunning view from our cabin, extremely clean. Close couple pubs near by! Wed definitely return. Thank you, Janelle"
Verified Guest - Jul 2024
"Lovely quiet site. Comfortable lodge. Have stayed at Cedar Retreats before and will probably visit again. Not luxury as stated but very nice."
David - Jun 2024
"Very letdown overall!"
Jamie - Jun 2024
"Everything was great, lovely and clean and easy to operate things with clear instructions. We forgot toilet rolls and reception where very kind and helpful"
Verified Guest - May 2024
"Lodge was very large, furniture was about usual for this type of property (not Luxury as advertised). Nice lodge but a bit tired in places, especially bathroom"
Verified Guest - May 2024
"We had a very good holiday despite the awful weather the lodges are spacious clean and well equipped but the TV kept breaking up though the WiFi is excellent.phone reception however is poor. The park is peaceful and relaxing with ducks and rabbits and birds everywhere. Its very quiet but near lots of lovely places to visit."
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"Wow what a lovely place to stay, everything and everywhere was immaculate We stayed in a dog friendly lodge which was lovely but when we next stay were going to have a larger dog friendly lodge, as lovely as it was we would of preferred it a little bigger, but thats just our preference, the lodge was immaculate and the hot tub was bigger enough for two of us and lovely and clean and hotThe staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble, we asked what its like when its full and Mandy an amazing lady said we are, so if your looking for peace and quiet even when they are full trust me this is the perfect place to stay The local cafe which is in Masham is amazing its a little tea room The scenery is something else, not many shops but we went for the peacefulness I Cant recommend this retreat enough it was just beautiful including having the ducks visiting us every day We will be staying again very soon"
Stephen - Apr 2024
"Spotless. Everything yiu needed was there.."
Michael - Mar 2024
"Amazing stay, local area has everything you need, 3 completely different pubs and a fab village shop"
Jillian - Mar 2024
"The lodge itself was great, very homely with everything provided. The hot tub was superb, and lovely to come back to after a day walking on the Yorkshire Dales. Would highly recommend, as a nice escape"

"Everything you could need."
Anna - Mar 2024
"We've very recently returned from Cedar Retreats - we had a wonderful stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Yorkshire. Its perfectly located for accessing so many places. The lodge was perfect for us (bedrooms at either end of the lodge and living area in the middle) - first time we've had a lodge in that layout but it really worked for us. Reluctant to tell you which lodge incase it's booked up next year, but it was lodge 19 that we had. The view we had was wonderful - over the fields at the back - lovely watching the sheep each morning. We also had an unexpected "lake" (aka flooded field!) to watch the wildlife and birds etc Hot tub was brilliant and nice and easy to access. The staff were all really pleasant and super helpful. One of our beds was squeaking - the lady on reception whizzed round with her screwdriver and tightened it all. Nothing was too much trouble. Couple of super minor points - a whisk would've been handy and some salt in the salt pot? Also the little stones from the driveway get trodden into the lodge - not sure how to prevent that...but it must annoying the cleaners! All in all it was a wonderful stay!"
Gemma - Feb 2024
"Enjoyed a very relaxing and peaceful week. The lodge was spotless and clean and very well equipped with everything you could need, and the hot tub was a huge bonus. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and the cleaning team do an excellent job. We took our little dog with us and found the nature reserve at Nosterfield to be an ideal walk, plus it's literally just a two minute drive away. There's a small village shop about 10 minutes walk away, perfect for any bits and bobs you may have forgotten. We can't wait to come back again in Summer."
Phil - Feb 2024
"Lovely lodge and hope to visit again however sofas a little worn and think robes for hot tub use should be included in price - overall had a great time with family"
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Great lodge ,nice and comfy, clean and tidy , hot tub was ideal , cleaned every morning ,nice and quiet site , great little break away Couple of minor things to mention No lights around site , so walking the dog at 9 o clock on a night was a bit sketchy when you couldnt see a great deal , no mop to clean up muddy paw prints or hot tub feet prints , no cork screw for bottles on New Years Eve lol"
David - Jan 2024
"The holiday was good. The only issue we had was when the water wasn't working on the second day and we had to drive 4 miles for bottled water"
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Was a lovely park, lots of space & super location for exploring the Dales."
Karen - Aug 2022
"Very peaceful surroundings"
David - Aug 2022
"Lovely peaceful lodges, our second visit here. Great location and loads to do within a short drive. Highly recommend a visit to Fountains Abbey!"

"Possibly the best lodge we have been too. It was absolutely immaculate and very spacious. The views over the lake are beautiful and the hot tub is large and is checked every day. Staff were friendly and the location is perfect for families. There’s so much to do within a 10 minute drive. We had a fantastic holiday and will definitely be back."
