Helsey Farm Cottages Reviews

"Wow, what a find! We booked this place without seeing any photos inside, just hoping for the best and it really paid off. The inside was absolutely lovely-spotlessly clean and newly refurbished, you could tell they put a lot of thought into it. There are two double bedrooms with en-suites, plus a third bedroom with bunk beds (bottom bunks a small double, tops a single) and a separate bathroom just for that room, which was handy. The real wow factor was the kitchen-its huge, super modern and really well-equipped, with plenty of space to cook and hang out. The island seats four and the open-plan living area was massive, with three comfy sofas and a big flatscreen TV. Bifold doors opened onto the patio, stretching the length of the room, which was lovely for sitting outside. There was also a separate dining and living room with a table for six, two sofas and another large TV-great if you want two separate chill zones. We were a family of six, with two other families and everyone loved it. Its only about ten minutes to the seaside and local shops and less than half an hour to Skegness or Ingoldmells if you fancy the busier spots. Were already planning to come back. I was tempted to leave a bad review to keep it quiet, but I couldnt bring myself to lie-honestly, its a brilliant place!"
Millie - Feb 2025
"We had a really lovely stay at this place. The setting is stunning and private, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The owners were super friendly and always willing to help if we needed anything, but it still felt peaceful and secluded. The hot tub was a real highlight after a long day cycling - absolute bliss! Only thing is, the cottage is directly under Stansted's flight path, so there's quite a bit of aircraft noise. It took us a couple of hours to get used to it, but honestly, it didnt ruin our holiday at all. Definitely recommend!"
Rajiv - Feb 2025
"Really enjoyed the walk, the dogs loved it and the place had such a nice vibe! Definitely recommend."
Clara - Feb 2025
"The cottage was lovely, such a peaceful spot with a stunning setting. We really enjoyed the views of the horses and the surrounding farml and. The hosts were super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Its a perfect place for anyone wanting a quiet, relaxing getaway - definitely worth a visit!"
Amelia - Jan 2025
"Our Helsey Farm Cottages review: We recently stayed at Goddard's Mead and it was a lovely experience. Rob and Sharon put so much effort into restoring this historic building and their warm welcome made us feel right at home - plus Bonnie was adorable! The location is perfect for exploring Essex, especially if you enjoy wandering around Thaxted and the nearby villages. Its a really peaceful spot, ideal for a relaxed getaway. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind and soak up some history."
Jane - Dec 2024
"We had a lovely weekend here! The place is really spacious and peaceful, perfect for a quick escape. The Corn Store had everything we needed and the hot tub was a real treat! Definitely coming back."
Oliver - Nov 2024
"Overall, we had a great stay. The only small hiccup was no oven glove, which made handling hot dishes a bit tricky. Apart from that, everything else was spot on and brilliant!"
Mark - Nov 2024
"Great spot, would come again"
Jamie - Oct 2024
"Absolutely loved our time at Goddards Mead! The cottage was perfect, cosy and well-equipped. Cant wait to return again!"
George - May 2024
"We had a lovely stay at this cosy cottage on a working farm and it felt surprisingly private. The owners, Robert and Sharon, were super friendly and welcoming. The place is really spacious, with well-equipped kitchen and bathroom and the bed was super comfy - perfect for a good night's sleep! The garden is perfect for dogs, totally secluded and with nice furniture. Plenty of walks nearby and Thaxteds restaurants, especially The Star and The Maypole, are worth checking out. Wed definitely recommend it!"
Simon - Apr 2024
"The hot tub cover really needs a proper catch and a lid lifter would make things so much easier. Its a bit of a struggle doing it alone without those extras. Could do with some improvements."
Sam - Mar 2024
"Really enjoyed our stay here! The place was super peaceful, perfect for unwinding and very quiet."
Harper - Mar 2024
"We had a fantastic stay at this cosy little cottage. Honestly, we didnt need to bring anything because its so well-equipped - we overloaded the car trying to fit everything! The welcome pack was really handy, with all the info about the place and menus, which was a lovely touch. The owners, Sharon and Rob, were quick to respond if we had questions. Our dogs loved the enclosed garden and the hot tub was a real treat. Thanks for a lovely break - well definitely be back!"
Alex - Mar 2024
"The cottage was absolutely lovely, with a cosy log burner and a relaxing hot tub. The hosts were friendly and made us feel at home. Hope to come back soon!"
Lucy - Jan 2024
"We had such a lovely stay! The cottage is really charming, with a cosy log burner and a hot tub. The hosts are welcoming and friendly. Its so peaceful, perfect for a mini break. Were already thinking about coming back for longer soon!"
Charlotte - Jan 2024
"We stayed at this place and honestly, its a good place. The house is super well equipped and kept us cosy during that rainy December weather. The bath was perfect after a long day and the shower was big enough to relax in. Being near a flight path didnt bother us at all and its a dream spot for dogs who dislike fireworks. Would definitely recommend!"
Harriet - Dec 2023
"We had a lovely stay at this place! The staff at reception were super friendly and made us feel welcome right away. The lodge itself was fantastic - loved the open plan design, the cosy mood lighting and the hot tub was a real highlight. Its location is perfect, just 10 minutes from Ingoldmells and 20 from Skegness, so exploring was easy. All in all, one of the nicest lodges we've stayed in. Thanks for a great experience, well definitely return!"
James - Nov 2023
"The cottage was just stunning, with a cosy log burner and hot tub that made our stay really special. Hosts were lovely and welcoming. Would definitely come back for a longer visit soon!"
Sarah - Oct 2023
"We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was spotless, had all the essentials plus some thoughtful extras. Definitely recommend for a peaceful getaway!"
Jessica - Sep 2023
"We had a fantastic weekend here! The place really ticked all our boxes and were already planning to return. Our dogs had a blast with the underfloor heating and the garden was perfect for them to run around. Luna even came back with a strained tail from all the wagging - clearly she enjoyed herself just as much as we did! Overall, a great stay."
Michael Carter - Jul 2023
"We had a fantastic stay. The house was super well equipped and kept us warm despite the rainy December weather. The bath was a real treat and the shower was great too. Being near the flight path didnt bother us at all, so dont worry about that! Perfect for dogs who dislike fireworks, as its in the middle of nowhere. Lovely converted property, wed definitely come back!"
Jess - Jul 2023
"We loved staying here! The rural setting was so peaceful and the courtyard was stunning. The hot-tub really made it special. Perfect for enjoying long country strolls too."
Ellie - Jun 2023
"We had a great time at this lovely cottage tucked away on a working farm, but honestly, it felt really private. The owners, Robert and Sharon, are such warm, friendly folks. The place itself is super spacious and well-equipped, especially the kitchen and bathroom, which was a nice surprise. The bed was so comfy, we slept like logs! The garden's perfect for dogs-totally secluded and with comfy furniture. Lots of walks nearby and Thaxteds restaurants, like The Star and The Maypole, are really worth a visit. Wed definitely recommend it!"
Tommy - May 2023
"We had a lovely stay at this tucked-away spot. The peaceful privacy was just what we needed and the owners were super friendly and helpful without being intrusive. After a long day of cycling, the hot tub was a real treat! One thing to note is that the cottage sits right beneath Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of aircraft noise. It took us a couple of hours to get used to it, but honestly, it didnt ruin our holiday. If you're sensitive to noise, just a heads up. Would definitely recommend!"

Attractions Near Helsey Farm Cottages

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Helsey Farm Cottages. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Natureland Seal Sanctuary - PE25 1DB
about 6 Miles
Awarded the Lincolnshire Family Attraction of the Year award in recent years this fun day out is recommended. You can see seals and penguins, as well as other animals in the popular pets corner.  Feeding time for the seals and penguins is the real highlight of the day. Entertainment, education and conservation are the main aims of this attraction. Natureland's work with abandoned baby seals has become known worldwide and it's carefully researched rearing and treatment program is now used by many other rescue centres.
Rushmoor Country Park - GU10 1ET
about 13 Miles
Located in Louth in Lincolnshire this is an ideal attraction when you want to get out in the fresh air and explore. There are many animals to see including ponies and piglets which the little ones love.  There are also some amazing birds from hawks and falcons to owls.  Most aspects of this attraction are included in the admission cost and as well as wandering around you get to hold and feed the animals too.  A real highlight are the micro pigs which are just like real pigs but in miniature.  Fully grown they are around the size of a spaniel!  If you get hungry then you can take your own picnic to the picnic areas or head for the tea room selling delicious food and children's meals too.
Pleasure Island - DN35 0PL
about 24 Miles
Wow this is an amazing family theme park and you will probably need the full day to experience it all.  From thrilling rides to family shows, kids of all ages are catered for.  Some of the most popular rides include the Obliterator and The Pendulus, not forgetting the Hypoblaster.   Family shows are entertaining such as the African Acrobat Show which is back by popular demand.  Entrance tickets are good value and if you book online you will receive a discount. To save even more money if you live locally or are visiting the area for a few weeks you could buy a season ticket for around £50 which will allow you entry for the whole season.
The Jungle Zoo - NR31 9EY
about 24 Miles
Centred around a Tropical House in an amazing jungle like setting this is a really unique attraction that will appeal to families.  In the Cleethorpes area of Lincolnshire it's easy to get to and offers a fun yet educational experience.  Referred to as the number one attraction in the area highlights include capuchin monkeys, meerkats, ring tailed lemur and for the children African pygmy goats.  The tropical house features Red Eared and other Terrapins from North America and goldfish amongst other things.  We think The Jungle Zoo represents excellent value for money too.  We recommend a whole day to explore this attraction and ensure you get to see all of the animals resident there.
Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 36 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 37 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
