Herons Mead Cottages Reviews

"We recently stayed at this charming cottage and honestly, it exceeded our expectations. The space was really generous, especially the bedrooms and en suites, which were spotlessly clean. The outdoor area with the hot tub was a lovely perk and even though we were told it might take a while to warm up, it was perfectly fine from the start. We appreciated the little touches like the welcome pack, robes and slippers - made us feel really taken care of. The only tiny downside was the weather - it rained quite a lot, so we couldnt enjoy the hot tub as much as wed hoped. Wed definitely come back!"
Emma - Mar 2025
"Really enjoyed our stay, will definitely return."
Emily - Mar 2025
"The cottage was so roomy and spotless, with fancy furnishings and thoughtful little extras. The hot tub was a treat!"
Emily Carter - Mar 2025
"Really enjoyed our stay, the lodge was stunning and our dogs loved it too!"

"Our Herons Mead Cottages review: We recently stayed at The Little Potting Shed and honestly, it was a bit of a letdown. When we arrived, we were surprised to find that The Bar and Cafe on-site was closed for renovations. This wasnt mentioned anywhere in our booking confirmation or during any of the pre-arrival communications, which was pretty frustrating. Its small details like that that can really impact your stay, especially when youre counting on having the option to grab a drink or a bite nearby. The cottage itself was a decent size for the three of us-two adults and our medium-sized dog-and its definitely got that quirky, different vibe that drew us to it initially. There are some nice touches like fresh flowers on the table and a couple of small bottles of prosecco, which was a lovely surprise. The doggy bag and dish cleaning pack were also a nice gesture, though honestly, weve stayed in similar places with the same extras and didnt think they were anything special. That said, the cleanliness was quite disappointing. The living room rug looked like it hadnt been vacuumed in ages, which was a bit gross. The bathroom tiles were just disgusting-seriously, they needed a proper scrub. The sink splashback was covered in toothpaste splatters and what I can only describe as saliva marks from previous guests. The mirror was even worse, with what looked like dried-up bogey and blue toothpaste smudges on the frame. The shower tiles couldve done with a good steam and scrub too.We followed the instructions and texted staff about these issues and they responded promisingly. A cleaner came while we were out in the afternoon, so we were hopeful things would improve. When we got back, the rug had been cleaned and looked fine, but the bathroom was still a mess-no real effort had been made. The mirror was just flicked with a cloth, leaving the same marks and the sink area could have been wiped down easily with some cleaning solution. We told staff again and they said HR was aware but didnt offer any further solution. We ended up wiping the sink and mirror with water just to make it tolerable.Honestly, its baffling that basic cleaning wasnt done properly in the first place, especially in todays post-pandemic world where cleanliness should be a priority. We also noticed that the radiator in the living space and under the sink was leaking, but at that point, we just couldnt be bothered to raise it anymore. Its a shame because the place has potential, but the overall standard of cleanliness and the lack of communication about facilities being closed really marred the experience for us. We probably wouldnt stay again, which is disappointing because the setting is quite nice, but cleanliness and transparency are key and those were lacking here."
Emma Roberts - Feb 2025
"Waterlily Cottage really impressed us. The decor was charming and the bed super comfy, making it perfect for relaxing. The bathroom had a great shower over the bath and the little touches like the coffee machine and welcome pack were lovely. The hot tub at the back was definitely a highlight!"
Emily - Dec 2024
"Absolutely loved our stay! Can't wait to come back again soon."
Emma Carter - Nov 2024
"We stayed at The Little Potting Shed and honestly, it was just what we needed. The quirky vibe really made our trip special and the little treats for us and the dog were a lovely surprise. Only small gripe was the TV disconnecting sometimes in the evenings, but honestly, it didnt ruin our stay at all. Wed definitely come back!"
Emma - Oct 2024
"We had a lovely stay in the cosy little potting shed. The extra touches really made it special. The only thing wed tweak is the height of the bed - it was a bit high, but super comfy once we got in. Our dog was also a big fan. Wed come back for sure!"
Emma Carter - Sep 2024
"Really enjoyed our stay overall."
Claire - Apr 2024
"We stayed in this charming little cabin and it really felt cosy. The quirky bed was fun, though a bit high if you have mobility issues. Everything else was lovely-soft furnishings and beautiful Denby crockery made it special!"
Emma Carter - Apr 2024
"Really enjoyed our stay! Beautiful setting, friendly staff and perfect for our dog too."
Emma - Apr 2024
"Loved the spot! Perfect for exploring Skegness and nearby seaside villages. The on-site dog-friendly restaurant was a real bonus too."

"We had a lovely stay at The Little Potting Shed during Christmas. The extra touches and the Christmas tree really made it special. The location is perfect, with beautiful beaches and charming villages nearby. Cant wait to come back soon!"
Ben - Dec 2023
"We had a really nice stay at this cosy little cottage. It had everything we needed for a weekend escape. The location was peaceful and the cafe bar nearby served some really tasty food. Definitely recommend!"
Emma - Dec 2023
"We had an absolutely lovely time! The cottage was sparkling clean and felt br and new since we were the first to stay there. I really appreciated the modern design and how attractive the place looked. The hot tub was such a nice touch, really the cherry on top. The location was perfect, close enough to loads of attractions, which made exploring easy. We also enjoyed some great meals and drinks at the on-site bar. The staff were all so friendly and helpful - well definitely be back!"
James - Jan 1970
"We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. The furniture and decor felt luxurious and the underfloor heating was perfect for chilly evenings. The hot tub was a real highlight and the peaceful surroundings made it even better."
Emma - Jan 1970
"Really enjoyed the stay, will definitely come back."
Jamie - Jan 1970
"Really enjoyed the experience, the small details made a big difference. Already planning to return soon!"
Emma - Jan 1970
"Really enjoyed staying here, the place was spotless and the hot tub was just the best! Definitely recommend."
Charlie - Jan 1970
"We had a lovely stay at Waterlily Cottage. The place was spotless and the team on site really made sure everything was perfect. The hot tub was a bonus and its great that its dog friendly - perfect for us and the pooch! One small thing, though, itd be handy to have somewhere to hang coats downstairs and a tray for muddy shoes at the door, especially when the weathers rubbish. Still, wed definitely come back!"
Jamie - Jan 1970
"We stayed in a really comfy, well-equipped house that kept us cosy despite the rainy December weather. The bath was perfect and the shower was really spacious-such a treat! The place is right under a flight path, but honestly, it didnt bother us at all. Perfect spot for dogs who dislike fireworks since its tucked away in the middle of nowhere. Thanks so much!"
Emma - May 2025
"We had a fantastic weekend here! The place really ticked all our boxes and were already planning to return. The pups adored the underfloor heating and spent ages playing in the garden. Luna was wagging her tail so much she strained it! Honestly, everyone was super happy, pups and humans alike. Great spot, will be back for sure!"
Sam - May 2025
"We had a lovely stay at this cosy spot tucked away in a peaceful, private area. The hosts were genuinely friendly and always ready to help if needed, yet they respected our privacy completely. The hot tub was a real highlight after cycling around the countryside! A small thing to note is that the cottage is quite close to Stansteds flight path, so theres quite a bit of plane noise. It didnt bother us much once we got used to it, but it might be an issue for light sleepers. Overall, a great find!"
Raj Patel - May 2025
"We had a lovely stay at this cosy cottage nestled on a working farm, yet surprisingly private. Robert and Sharon are such warm, welcoming hosts, really made us feel at home. The place itself is massive and well-equipped, especially the kitchen and bathroom - everything you need. The bed was super comfy and the garden, with its dog-proof fencing and comfy furniture, felt like our little retreat. There are plenty of nice walks nearby and Thaxted's restaurants, like The Star and The Maypole, are worth checking out. Wed definitely recommend it!"
James - May 2025
"We had a lovely stay at this peaceful spot. Sharon and Robert really go above and beyond to make sure youre comfortable. Its our second time here and well definitely be back again soon! Definitely recommend."
Emma - May 2025
"We loved the peaceful vibe, the hosts were so friendly and helpful. The hot tub was a real highlight, perfect for relaxing after a day out."
Emma - May 2025
"We had a fantastic stay at this cosy cottage! Honestly, its so well equipped that we barely needed to bring anything, which was a lovely surprise. The welcome pack was really thoughtful, with all the info we could possibly need, including local menus-such a nice touch. The enclosed garden was perfect for the dogs and they loved it here. The hot tub was a real highlight, so relaxing. Sharon and Rob were quick to respond to any questions, making everything smooth. Thanks for a lovely break, well definitely be back!"
Alex - May 2025
"Lovely cottage, clean & all the facilities you need. Staff team very helpful and friendly. The Hide offers a tasty afternoon tea that we can recommend and dog friendly. Will definitely be coming back soon"
Rachel - Aug 2022
"We had another fabulous break at Herons Mead, the cottage was lovely and very tastefully decorated. The staff are amazing and very helpful and The Hide restaurant and bar offers great food and service. We will definitely be returning."
Amanda - Aug 2022
"Lovely cottage with excellent facilities, helpful staff on site and good local amenities, as an elderly couple with a small dog we found everything accessible, one suggestion for the shower/bath would be a non slip bath mat also a small table would be a good addition as we used the small outside table. The Hide cafe/bar on site is definitely worth a visit especially for Sunday lunch 5*(book a table) we also had a extremely good take away from there, overall highly recommend"
Noel - Aug 2022
"5star accommodation ! Spotless and beautifully presented, fishing was good and the food at the Hide bar was fantastic with lovely friendly staff only downside was closing at 6pm weekdays 8pm fri and sat apart from that was a lovely break ! ?"
Lloyd - Jul 2022
"Had a lovely weekend couldn’t fault anything really - beautiful accommodation - very clean - helpful friendly staff couldn’t recommend it more"
Karen - Jul 2022
"Very clean, modern and spacious. Fully equipped and welcome package for me and the dogs. Hot tub great and enclosed. A great location and able to visit Skegness and Mablethorpe with ease. Wish I would have stayed longer."
Tanya - Jul 2022
"Loved our stay at Red Robin 2, lots of room inside, a small outside area, but lovely hot tub! We had drinks in the Hide and an excellent Sunday Lunch there. Close to the coast."
Deborah - Jul 2022
"We didn’t know what to expect when arriving at Herons Mead. You see pictures and comments but until you arrive you are never sure. Well I can say without any shadow of doubt that this is a superb cottage and venue. Everything was first class, so clean, equipped to the highest order. The site was really beautiful, with ducks and geese as residents ? the restaurant/ bar also was first class. The meals were excellent and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Finally the hot tub was a very welcome addition. As you can see we were more than happy at what was on offer at Herons Mead. Will be back next year, just got to decide which week."
Kevin - Jul 2022

Graham - Jul 2022

Peter - Jul 2022
"Staff were lovely although, on Sunday we went to have just a few drinks as it was my birthday on the Monday but unfortunately she said they weren't allowed to serve just two people, alittle disappointed by that as in the visits book guest wrote that the staff couldn't do enough for them, even if we were to take the drinks back to the cottage with us, but I guess rules or rules."
Cheryl - Jun 2022
"Great weekend The Potting Shed was very quirky well designed and all you need. Site was very quiet and well set out"

Attractions Near Herons Mead Cottages

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Herons Mead Cottages. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Natureland Seal Sanctuary - PE25 1DB
about 4 Miles
Awarded the Lincolnshire Family Attraction of the Year award in recent years this fun day out is recommended. You can see seals and penguins, as well as other animals in the popular pets corner.  Feeding time for the seals and penguins is the real highlight of the day. Entertainment, education and conservation are the main aims of this attraction. Natureland's work with abandoned baby seals has become known worldwide and it's carefully researched rearing and treatment program is now used by many other rescue centres.
Rushmoor Country Park - GU10 1ET
about 17 Miles
Located in Louth in Lincolnshire this is an ideal attraction when you want to get out in the fresh air and explore. There are many animals to see including ponies and piglets which the little ones love.  There are also some amazing birds from hawks and falcons to owls.  Most aspects of this attraction are included in the admission cost and as well as wandering around you get to hold and feed the animals too.  A real highlight are the micro pigs which are just like real pigs but in miniature.  Fully grown they are around the size of a spaniel!  If you get hungry then you can take your own picnic to the picnic areas or head for the tea room selling delicious food and children's meals too.
Pleasure Island - DN35 0PL
about 28 Miles
Wow this is an amazing family theme park and you will probably need the full day to experience it all.  From thrilling rides to family shows, kids of all ages are catered for.  Some of the most popular rides include the Obliterator and The Pendulus, not forgetting the Hypoblaster.   Family shows are entertaining such as the African Acrobat Show which is back by popular demand.  Entrance tickets are good value and if you book online you will receive a discount. To save even more money if you live locally or are visiting the area for a few weeks you could buy a season ticket for around £50 which will allow you entry for the whole season.
The Jungle Zoo - NR31 9EY
about 29 Miles
Centred around a Tropical House in an amazing jungle like setting this is a really unique attraction that will appeal to families.  In the Cleethorpes area of Lincolnshire it's easy to get to and offers a fun yet educational experience.  Referred to as the number one attraction in the area highlights include capuchin monkeys, meerkats, ring tailed lemur and for the children African pygmy goats.  The tropical house features Red Eared and other Terrapins from North America and goldfish amongst other things.  We think The Jungle Zoo represents excellent value for money too.  We recommend a whole day to explore this attraction and ensure you get to see all of the animals resident there.
Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 34 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 35 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
