Carmarthen Bay Reviews

"We recently spent a few days at Carmarthen Bay Park Dean Resort and honestly, it was a bit of a mixed bag. First off, getting there isnt the easiest - the road leading in is quite narrow and a bit tricky to spot the turn, so you really need to keep your eyes peeled. Once youre on the site, its really remote, which is a plus if youre after peace and quiet. But beware, because if youve got little ones and theyre not in school, you might find the place a bit noisy - especially if theyre running up and down until late. We were surrounded by families with kids and the noise level was quite high until quite late, which was a bit frustrating. The site itself is quite sprawling, with caravans arranged in rows and fairly close together. It wouldve been nicer if theyd grouped older guests separately from families with young children, just to keep the peace for everyone. Our caravan was pretty basic but comfortable enough for a short stay. We did have to drive because the weather was so wet - walking to the amenities is quite a trek, especially in the rain.Speaking of amenities, the swimming pool, amusements, bar and restaurant are all there, but the food options are pretty limited. The only on-site dining is the Boathouse restaurant, which has a decent menu but tends to be quite pricey. We had dinner upon arrival since there wasnt anywhere else nearby and the quality was okay - nothing special but okay for what it was. A kids meal was around £7, which adds up fast if youre feeding a few children. The drinks werent cheap either - a pint of lager was over £6, which felt a bit steep. Kidwelly village isnt within walking distance, so unless you drive, youre stuck with the on-site options or paying for taxis, which we didnt check if theyre available. The sites entertainment facilities are actually pretty good. The clubhouse is lovely - one of the nicest weve seen at a campsite. Theyve got a programme of activities, including early entertainment for kids, which the staff seem really enthusiastic about. The children had a great time and the staff are very attentive. Bingo is played in the evening from 7pm, with a small fee for a book - £12 for six pages, with the last game having a prize of around £400 if youre lucky. It didnt take long and its a fun little activity. Theres also a flyer game that costs £6, if enough people want to play. We didnt stay for the evening entertainment after bingo, but theres quite a lot on offer. The site shop is handy if you forget something, but its very pricey - best to take most things with you. Newspapers are available daily. We didnt use the pool, so cant comment on that, but it looked clean enough. The caravans dont come with toilet paper, so thank goodness we packed some - its always better to be prepared. One of the highlights has to be the view from the restaurant - its stunning, overlooking the estuary and a perfect spot to watch the sunset. Bring binoculars if youre into birdwatching; youll see a variety of birds along the waters edge when the tides out. The walks along the shore are lovely too, especially if you like a peaceful seaside stroll. All in all, its not the best park weve stayed at recently, but it served its purpose as a base to explore the area. The castle nearby is definitely worth a visit if youre in the neighbourhood. Despite some annoyances, particularly with the noise and the price of food and drinks, we managed to enjoy our stay - just dont expect total tranquillity, especially if youre near families with young kids. The location, the views and the lovely clubhouse made up for quite a few of the downsides. Would we go back? Maybe, but only if we knew itd be quieter and if we could find somewhere nearby to eat out instead of relying on the on-site restaurant all the time."
Sarah J. - Mar 2024
"The caravan looked lovely, but honestly, it wasnt properly cleaned. There were sweet wrappers under the beds and the plates and cutlery were quite grubby. Seems like the last guests didnt leave it washed and staff probably missed a proper check. Not great!"
James - Nov 2023
"Overall, we had a good experience. The site was clean and warm, but quite isolated. Need a car."
Emma Clarke - Nov 2023
"Really pleased with the caravan, it felt cosy and well set up for our trip."
Chris - Jun 2023
"Our Carmarthen Bay review: Great experience, definitely planning to return."
Emily Carter - Aug 2020
"Nice stay, just wish the twin room was a bit bigger."
James - Aug 2020
"Absolutely loved our stay! The place was spotless, spacious and had everything we could possibly need."
Emma - Aug 2020
"We stayed in this cosy caravan and loved how nicely it was set up. The beds were super comfy and it had all the crockery and utensils we needed. The central heating was a lifesaver during the bad weather. Perfect for three adults!"
Emma - Aug 2020
"Really enjoyed the experience overall"
Sam - Aug 2020
"The lodge was fantastic and the views totally took our breath away."
Emma - Aug 2020
"Our stay at Carmarthen Bay was lovely! The caravan was spotless, super comfy and well equipped, especially considering everything going on. The site was beautifully maintained. Definitely good value for money and a perfect base to explore West Wales with the family."
Emma Roberts - Jul 2020
"We were a bit disappointed because the previous guests had clearly ignored the no smoking signs, so the caravan still smelled of smoke. The cleaning team did try to freshen it up, but unfortunately, the smell lingered. Apart from that, the caravan itself was alright and we dont blame the staff for it at all."
Emma Clarke - Jul 2020
"The caravan was fantastic, offering a lovely view of the Gower. The kids' room was really cosy and the disabled bathroom and shower worked perfectly. Our bed was huge with plenty of space around it. Thanks a lot!"
Jamie - Jul 2020
"Really enjoyed the peaceful vibe and stunning scenery here."
Oliver - Sep 2019
"Really enjoyed our stay, would recommend."
Emma - Sep 2019
"At first glance, the exterior didn't impress us much, but once inside, it was a different story - lovely and cosy, super clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. We were just seconds from the beach too!"
Jamie - Sep 2019
"The ensuite was decent, though not ideal for brushing teeth because a shelf blocked the tiny sink. The twin room felt a tad tight for two adults, but perfect for just one. There were two washbasins and WCs, which was handy. Overall, quite okay!"
James - Sep 2019
"Really enjoyed our experience here."
Emily - Aug 2019
"We stayed as a family of six and honestly, there was so much space, it felt just like home!"
Emma - Aug 2019
"Really enjoyed the trip, would recommend it!"
Jessica - Aug 2019
"We had a great time! The site was perfect for relaxing and there's loads to explore nearby if you fancy a bit of adventure. Lovely break!"
Emma - Aug 2019
"Absolutely loved the trip, the kids had a blast!"
Emily Turner - Aug 2019
"Looking forward to returning, fingers crossed for sunshine!"
Henry - Jun 2019
"Overall, we had a good experience, but the oven's only got one shelf and a tiny baking tray, which was a bit of a pain for a family of four. Apart from that, its pretty decent."
John - Jun 2019
"We initially booked a different site but found out it wasn't suitable for our travel cot, which was a bit disappointing as it wasnt clear online. When we moved to a caravan that fit perfectly, everything was great! Would definitely return."
James - May 2019
"Really spacious caravans with two toilets, beds were super comfy!"
Emma - Apr 2019
"It was a lovely, calming place, perfect for unwinding. Only downside was the drive to nearby shops and sights."
Emma - Apr 2019
"Looking forward to our next visit!"
Sam - Apr 2019
"We really appreciated the friendly staff, who were so helpful during our short weekend getaway. It was just what our family needed, peaceful and refreshing."
Emily - Apr 2019
"Most of the staff were absolutely fantastic. Thank you ladies. I’ve given a five for the two young men who were rude and unhelpful."
Peter - Aug 2022
"We had an amazing time at Camarthen Bay. The location is stunning and there’s always something to do for the children, I would always pre book activities in advance to ensure we got a place. The staff are always helpful and friendly and there is always someone around to help. The beach is a stone throw away and so beautiful. I would definitely stay here again."
Shereena - Aug 2022
"Fantastic holiday. I absolutely adore Wales and thought I would stay in a chalet in camathan bay this time. I loved every minute of it. At the end of the day if you love being remote and away from the rat race. This is the place to stay. Great for the children. A stones throw away from the beach. Yes you are on country roads and unfortunately there is a lot of that in Wales and that is what I love. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Cosy home from home chalets."
Sarabeth - Jul 2022
"Staff are amazing upgraded us ASAP no problems"
Katie - Jul 2022
"Beautiful holiday park would highly recommend staff are great clean place really nice and enjoyable"
David - Jul 2022
"Great site. Only downside is the proximity of the train line, which to be fair after the first couple of nights even the 25 oil tankers and diesel engine didn't wake us."
Ginette - Jul 2022
