Cartmel Lodge Reviews

Ruth - Jan 2025
We were there during a bad storm and the power went off. I called the number in the lodge and the owner was helpful and considerate. The power was only off a short time and the maintenance team were polite and friendly and helped keep us informed. I feel more confident recommending the lodge since I know if anything happened it would be dealt with well. The lodge was as advertised and comfortable, the heating was good and kept it very warm. The small points that could be improved1 is to add some hooks in the bathrooms as there was nowhere to hang towels. 2 I did not find a hairdryer so glad I took my own.The design of mirrors and plug sockets meant it was difficult to dry hair stood looking in a mirror but I found an extension cable in the main bedroom so this was ok. Overall a pleasant stay in a good location to explore the local area. We would go again.

Really lovely lodge, situated in a beautiful location. The property was clean and laid out well in general. Just a few things that could be addressedThe kettle was full of thick gooey limescale so we used a pan to boil our water. The cooker hadnt been cleaned properly and there were some dirty glasses and pots in the cupboard. We do understand that cleaners are paid for these things so dont hold this against the owners, but may be worth monitoring. A welcome pack would have been nice considering the cost of the lodge we paid 1,200 for 1 week I had wanted to vacuum and mop whilst there, however the Hoover pipe had a tear in it and the mop head was black. As stated before, the property really is lovely and comfortable, just a little tired and could benefit from a fresh lick of paint and a few new appliances to reflect the cost of the stay here, as do feel it was overpriced for what we got, had we paid a few hundred less this is what we would expect. All in all we did enjoyed our holiday.
Anne - Sep 2024
We had a lovely week at Cartmel Lodge. Its very comfortable, spacious, warm and tranquil. A lovely retreat to return to at the end of the day. Access was easy and Gemma answered our queries very quickly. The hot tub was amazing after a day exploring the lakes. I would strongly recommend to the owners as others have done to add hooks to the back of the doors in the bathrooms as there is nowhere at all to hang wet towels. Also, a mirror is needed in the twin room for hair drying purposes also been mentioned previously. These are minor things that did not lessen the enjoyment of our week. We would recommend and hope to return.
Jason - Aug 2024
Great lodge but having to arrive at 4pm or after then no welcome pack ie coffee tea milk when you pay over a thousand pounds a week is a bit off. No logs wood for the fire nothing. Also should state need a touch as very dark if coming back from the village as you are walking on the main country roads Hottub great massive lodge very quiet very clean and comfortable beds
Helen - Jul 2024
Location was great. Lodge was a lovely size and well equipped . Disappointed that there was a disgusting smell in the twin bedroom , which was overbearing meaning we slept on the couches .The owners were informed of the smell and the fact we had to sleep on the couches. The carpet was cleaned and the smell remained. We were offered some money back as an apology which we are still to receive 6 days later .This issue spoilt our break .

Just had a really good week in Cartmel Lodge. The hot tub was first class. With a few minor adjustments, it would have been a great week. These areLeak on outside tap reported.Loose deck plank by jacuzzi, worn ledge reported.Bedroom tv, once working, signal kept dropping out not reported.Main tv, followed instructions, never did get it working on live tv. Had to use itv x and iPlayer reported.New plugs in both bathrooms. They wouldnt seat properly. Water drained out.The above are not drips, because we really did have a good week.YoursHarryThe following would have been really helpful.Hooks in bedroom for dressing gowns.Rails in bathroom to hang towels.Rail to help access to the bath.

Beautiful lodge in a peaceful location, had everything we needed, thank you for sharing with us
Kelvin - Nov 2023
The lodge and all its facilities was impeccable
Adrian - Oct 2023
We had a lovely time at Cartmel lodge. The lodge is situated beautifully, surrounded by trees and bushes. It's so quiet and you can enjoy watching the squirrels jumping between trees whilst relaxing in the hot tub. Inside the lodge is big and open and feels very homely, the kitchen has all the utensils you need and a great big fridge freezer too. The central heating is great also and warns the place up in no time! Ensuite shower was brilliant although the bath in the family room is quite small. I marked the lodge down on a few things. When arriving after a long drive and as it was cold we would have liked to use the log burner straight away but we couldn't as there were no logs left for us. There was no information as to where you get the logs so we had to travel out to find some from a supermarket. I thought this was a little poor. Also as we visited during autum the wooden steps and decking area was extremely slippy l and led to a family member slipping down the entrance steps and hurting themselves, luckily nothing too serious but when I messaged the owner I had no reply. The steps could do with some anti slip strips placing on them. The same goes for the decking to the rear, I slipped and one of the decking planks shifted next to the hot tub causing me to land on my knees. Again could be easily rectified. All in all a great week away and we would be happy to return.
Rose - Oct 2023

Lynne - May 2023
We had a great stay at this property. A quiet lodge with private hot tub at the back. Well kept grounds. Not far from Cartmel which had pubs and cafes. Easy to access. We were also very lucky with some warm weather!
John - Apr 2023
I cannot say how poor the maintenance was on this holiday further more your explanation. That we should have complained at the time to watch a army of cleaner come in and carry out a del clean so stressful we left after three days totally unexceptable and a civil sue will becoming if nothing is done
Christopher - Jan 2023
Possible canopy over hot tub, so can be used in all weather.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 7 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 8 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 9 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 17 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 24 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Bowland Wild Boar Park - PR3 2QT
about 25 Miles
Head for the Bowland Wild Boar park and we don't think you will be disappointed.  A popular attraction in Preston there is so much to do for the whole family.  From picnics, walks and wildlife to experiencing feeding the animals you are sure to have a memorable day out.  Also popular is the kids tractor play area.  For rest and relaxation the cafe is ideal serving hot drinks and snacks with a lovely view over the pond and wildlife feeding station.  The Forest of Bowland has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 35 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
