White Cross Bay Reviews

"We found the place perfect for two of us-super cosy and just the right size. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and those speakers? A lovely surprise! The heating worked perfectly too."
Emma - Mar 2025
"Comfortable stay with lovely amenities"
Rebecca - Nov 2024
"We were a bit caught out thinking it was Hoseasons, but its actually Parkdean. Still okay though."
Emma Clarke - Oct 2024
"We really enjoyed our stay at Harrop Lodge. The place was spotlessly clean and fully equipped, making it feel like a home away from home. The views of Lake Windermere from the decking were absolutely stunning, perfect for relaxing after a day out. Parking was ample, so no worries about space and there was plenty of room for water sports gear too. Only a tiny hiccup - the kitchen flooring was a bit loose in parts, which could be a slip hazard. Still, wed definitely recommend it!"
George - Aug 2024
"Our White Cross Bay review: The caravan constantly has a strong sewage or gas smell, making it quite unpleasant. Best suited for two, but very cramped. Not ideal."
Rachel Turner - Jun 2024
"We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge. It was spotless, beautifully decorated and super cosy-definitely a big upgrade from the caravan. Just a shame the site itself wasnt quite as nice! Still, wed come back."
Emma Clarke - Jun 2024
"We stayed at the Harrop Lodge recently and honestly, it was quite lovely overall. The views of Lake Windermere were stunning and the terrace was huge, which we loved. That said, the bed wasn't quite as comfy as we'd hoped - not terrible, but definitely not a luxury mattress. The biggest letdown was the outdoor furniture; we asked twice in person and once online, but apparently, they didn't have any. When we raised the issue, it seemed to fall on deaf ears and there was no email contact to chase it up. Bit disappointing, really."
Clara Reynolds - May 2024
"Honestly, the lodge was okay overall, but the beds were a real letdown. I just couldnt get comfortable and ended up sleeping on the settee instead, which was pretty frustrating. I noticed in the guestbook that others had mentioned the same issue, so its clearly a recurring problem. The biggest gripe, though, was the misleading advertising. The photo on the website showed a lovely view of Harrod with its balcony overlooking the lake, but thats not what we got at all. Its almost like a different scene! The picture seemed taken from the balcony, but it didnt actually feature Harrod itself, just the lodge and the lake in the background. That felt like a bit of a scam, honestly. I wouldnt book through this company again and I believe some compensation is fair given the false representation. Definitely not what we expected!"
Emily Carter - Apr 2024
"We spent a lovely few days at White Cross Bay and honestly, the location is spot on. The bus stop right outside makes exploring the area so easy, which was a big plus for us. The Windermere Lodge had everything we needed, though it could do with a bit of a deep clean - the lounge chairs looked a bit worn out. The lodges proximity to the main road and the nearby play area was fine for now, but might get noisy during school holidays. All in all, a great spot with plenty of lovely walks nearby, wed definitely return!"
Emma Carter - Mar 2024
"The caravan was a decent size and we loved the overall space. The bed definitely needs a new mattress and mattress protectors should be standard. Overall, happy with the stay!"
Emma - Nov 2023
"Overall, we thought the caravan was decent for the price. We were fine with the space and the amenities, though the TV signal was pretty poor, which we expected in the lakes. No wifi or phone signal, but thats pretty normal around here. There were some cobwebs and a big stain on the mattress, but apart from that, it was mostly clean. Not perfect, but okay for what we needed."
Sarah - Nov 2023
"Really enjoyed our stay, the caravan was perfect for us."
Rachel - Nov 2023
"Great value for money"
Alex - Aug 2020
"Great experience, definitely coming back soon!"
Emma - Aug 2020
"The lodge was stunning, especially with its prime spot near the lake - really lovely. The indoor pool was a bit crowded, but overall, a great stay!">"
Alex - Aug 2020
"Beautiful spot, relaxing vibe, would visit again soon!"
Emma - Aug 2020
"Great spot, were definitely coming back soon!"
James - Aug 2020
"We had such a brilliant family break! The lodge was spotless and well-equipped, really comfy furniture and the kitchen had everything we needed. The kids loved the entertainment at the park and relaxing in the hot tub was a highlight!"
Olivia - Aug 2020
"Great spot, would recommend it."
Oliver - Jul 2020
"Great vibe, lovely staff, food was really good value."
Emma - Jul 2020
"We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely lodge. The decor is stunning and the location on site is super convenient. Only thing was, the third bedroom is quite tiny with a small three-quarter bed-great for kids, but not for two adults. Also, no spare pillows anywhere, which was a bit of a letdown. Still, overall, pretty perfect!"
Emma - Jul 2020
"Overall, we had a decent time, but one thing did bother us-waiters not wearing masks when serving and chatting nearby. It felt a bit risky, especially with food so close to their faces. Hope they tighten up on safety soon!"
George - Jul 2020
"We were really pleased with the furniture and fittings overall. The mattresses, though, were a bit too firm for us. Luckily, when a kitchen door came loose, they sorted it out super fast. Nice job!"
Alex - Jul 2020
"The place was really comfy and clean, which we appreciated. Only downside was the lack of storage in the bedroom and bathroom, plus missing fridge shelves and cushions on the sofas. Minor stuff, really."
Martin - Mar 2020
"Really enjoyed our weekend here, the place was lovely."
Emma - Mar 2020
"When we booked this lodge, we initially thought it would have a hot tub because the advert mentioned certain accommodations. Turns out, Brathay Lodge at White Cross Bay doesnt come with one, which was a bit confusing. We spoke to staff upon arrival and it turns out this mix-up has been happening quite a lot over the past few weeks, mainly because a private owner also calls his lodge Brathay Lodge. When searching online, most pictures are of HIS lodge, not ours. That said, once we got past that initial bump, we settled in quite nicely. Our lodge was pretty cosy, although there was a slight draft coming through the main doors, but the full central heating kept everything warm. The kitchen was well equipped, with a cooker, grill, fan oven, fridge freezer and dishwasher - just remember to bring your own cleaning stuff like washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. The dining table, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery were all there, making it easy to settle in. Overall, we had a lovely stay once we sorted out the misunderstanding. The staff were really friendly and helpful, which made a big difference. Wed definitely come back again, despite the small confusion at first!"
Lucy - Mar 2020
"We found the caravan to be really clean and comfy, which was great. The only downsides were not enough hooks for wet jackets and the huge dining table that just got in the way! Still, a decent stay."
Emma - Feb 2020
"We really enjoyed our stay! All the essentials were in the cabin or available on-site to buy. Already booked again for next year, cant wait!"
Emma - Dec 2019
"Absolutely loved our stay, the place was perfect for a family getaway!"
Emma - Dec 2019
"Excellent location and surrounding. Very good park. The lodges great quality clean and very well equipped. The only thing the swimming pool opening hours could be longer it only operates 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon."
Sabi - Aug 2022
"Lovely caravan - spotlessly clean - as was the park itself - lovely location"
Christine - Jul 2022
"Beautiful lodge, family friendly environment and glorious loch view."
Esther - Jul 2022
"Brilliant holiday. All staff extremely hepful. Great location."
Les - Jul 2022
"Beautiful accommodation, fantastic views and so close to the lake. Also close to Windermere which was great. Easy to find the park too. Staff were lovely and friendly."
Grace - Jul 2022
"A lovely lodge and caravan park set in a beautiful location."
Gillian - Jul 2022
"Great holiday and central location for touring. Lodge was of a high standard. Very enjoyable break for the family and dog!"
Brian - Jul 2022
"Loved one holiday here will definitely be back"
Cheryl - Jul 2022
"The accommodation was lovely, clean and the reception/shop staff were very helpful."

Attractions Near White Cross Bay

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to White Cross Bay. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 4 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 10 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 15 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 18 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 22 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 23 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 34 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Bowland Wild Boar Park - PR3 2QT
about 37 Miles
Head for the Bowland Wild Boar park and we don't think you will be disappointed.  A popular attraction in Preston there is so much to do for the whole family.  From picnics, walks and wildlife to experiencing feeding the animals you are sure to have a memorable day out.  Also popular is the kids tractor play area.  For rest and relaxation the cafe is ideal serving hot drinks and snacks with a lovely view over the pond and wildlife feeding station.  The Forest of Bowland has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
