Welcome to...

Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges

These stylish lakeside lodges sit in a beautifully unspoilt part of the Lake District on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, with gorgeous views over stunning countryside and a multitude of walks right on the doorstep. The pretty market towns of Keswick, Cockermouth and Ambleside are all within easy driving distance.

You can go fishing or take a private boat on the lake if you fancy a tranquil day on the water. There are plenty of good pubs and restaurants close by - we love Overwater Hall in Cumbria (AA recognised) and the 16th century Priest Hole restaurant in Ambleside - it serves Mediterranean and English food, freshly prepared daily.

All the lodges at Bassenthwaite are superbly styled and extremely comfortable and some sit right at the water's edge with amazing views over the lake. Lakeland Lodge Plus sleeps six people and has French doors that open out onto a patio with private hot tub, perfect for warm, relaxing evenings.

Carlisle Castle is well worth a visit; built originally in 1092, it's where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. As well as the many water sports that the Lakes are renowned for (head to Windermere for waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and canoeing).

Dont want to fault anything but the one thing that let the lodge down was the dining table there were loads of crumbs and food in the creases, I feel like I need to mention it but still rate the whole holiday a 10!!

It's not cheap but you pay for a good clean spacious lodge in a beautiful area of the north lakes. It's a ideal location for hiking and cycling, both on and off road.
Even for the less arduous, scenic drives are everywhere.typical lakeland weather so go prepared.

Date of stay: 2nd September 2018
What an amazing break in beautiful and tranquil surroundings. We arrived to a friendly greeting and a lovingly prepared welcoming lodge overlooking the pretty lake. Our lodge was modern, spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped. The area is quiet and well kept and conveniently positioned for exploring this beautiful part of the country. We loved the fact that you could hire a telescope and that binoculars, picnic blanket and picnic bag were provided.

Our only regret is that we couldn't stay for longer. We would highly recommend and would love to return.

Date of stay: 28th April 2017
Far exceeded our expectations and the little 'suprises' such as a picnic hamper, picnic rug and binoculars left in the Lodge for us to use were much appreciated
James, Knaresborough
Date of stay: 24th April 2017
Excellent accomodation, very quiet (apart from the rooster on the nearby farm). Nice and cosy, just perfect for a pair of adults. The lodge was up by the road entrance which made it easy for us to exit out onto the main road and we didn't notice any other noise by other guests or their vehicles. The kitchen area was just a tiny bit on the small side and the two of us had to be careful when preparing food or washing up, but otherwise ok. The lights in the hot tub did not work, but not really an issue for us, as there was plenty of light in the sky as the sun set later in the evening and it made it more romantic. We also used the lodge outdoor lights to aid us to replace the hot tub cover once we were done. I didn't feel the need to report it to reception other than I mentioned it when we checked out.
Chloe, Whitby

A lovely lodge and great for us as it was pet friendly - even towels and bowl provided for the dog if you had left your behind. There was just two of us ( the lodge was 6 berth) so plenty of room - but it would have been a squash for 6 especially as there is only one toilet and shower - though they are in separate rooms.

The hot tub was amazing the best thing about the lodge.

Date of stay: 2nd November 2015
The lodge was fantastic and had everything we needed there. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed spending long hours there with our 3 children, as the days were already short in October half-term. It was excellent and convenient with a lovely view of the lake. Highly recommended!

I was really impressed with the lodge we stayed in, we made good use of the hot tub. I would recommend these lodges to family and friends.
Maureen, Elgin
Date of stay: 17th October 2015
Woodland Lodge was in an elevated position on the site away from the Lakeside, however we did have a view of the Lake It was a very comfortable Lodge with all mod cons. The outside decking area was nice with a gas barbecue provided and a wooden table and chairs. We loved the bird table (Wecome to the Nuthouse.)The gated decking area also meant we could allow our Westie outside without him running off! My husband also liked that he could park the car alongside the Lodge. We would definately consider going back to Woodland Lodge.

Fabulous lodge in beautiful location.Only think letting it down was the fact that the bathroom loo was difficult to flush. We reported this at the end of thr holiday and the staff ensured us that it would be looked into.

Date of stay: 10th August 2015
The lodge was amazing & so was the hot tub. All staff so polite & helpful. Dishwasher repaired on day we reported fault. No other problems. Quite isolated site but we knew that. Perfect for a peaceful luxurious break.
Janette, Hartlepool
Date of stay: 8th August 2015
The shower was fabulously powerful and the pillows were the most comfortable I have ever had, great for reading in bed. The tea mugs were unusually very small and not much good if you like a large coffee in the morning or even a weak tea, as one tea bag made it too strong in such a small mug. The view from our lodge (52) was spectacular but the sun was largely blocked by the trees in front, making it cool and shady even on hot days. We would definitely come again if we could afford the price but, although we enjoyed our lodge and it's views very much, would opt for a sunnier spot by the lake, possibly near the jetty.
Jane, Stoke On Trent

John, Walsall

Close to the lake side. Surrounded by trees but with lake views. Bird wildlife visited the veranda frequently. The beds creaked a bit but the lodge is well furnished, comfortable and clean. We were 92 year old father and 2 Sons, spending quality time together, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We visited Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges at the end of April. We stayed for 3 nights and had a fabulous time. We wanted to just get away for a weekend and chill out, and that is exactly what we did. There aren't many lodges on the site so you're not overlooked by anyone else, it's private and peaceful. When we got there the lady on Reception was very helpful when we asked for nice walks nearby and she directed us to the nearby pub (The Sun Inn) in Bassenthwaite. It was a 35-40 minute walk through the beautiful countryside. There was also another lovely walk around the lake where we were told you can see the otters if you go at dusk or dawn. The lodges are spot on, excellent quality, very clean and with all the mod cons. The hot tub was amazing, just what you need when you've been on long walks, super relaxing with an amazing view of the beautiful lake. There isn't any kind of entertainment on the site, there is a small park for the children but that is all. It's purely meant for a peaceful holiday. There is plenty of information provided in the lodge advertising many different places to visit, such as aquariums, wildlife parks, activities, lots of different towns/villages etc. Overall we had an amazing time, no pressure, no schedules, just a great getaway from our busy everyday life. I highly recommend.

Date of stay: 18th April 2015
The lodge was spacious, clean and everything was of high quality from the pillows to the towels and kitchen equipment. The hot tub, with its outstanding view, was cleaned daily and provided a place to relax on the decking. A small, well kept children's play area, lakeside walk and several viewing points made this location perfect for families or couples-we will definitely return to Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges!

Date of stay: 9th March 2015
Was very nice, well furnished with everything you need to have a nice time. The only issue was the position of the jacuzzi, it was out on the deck by the side of the road through the campsite in clear veiw of anyone looking so this put us off a little bit which was a shame but other than that it was a lovely place to stay.
Chris, Yorkshire Dales
Date of stay: 6th March 2015
Views to die for, which was good as one of our party was off colour for a couple of days but it was so nice and relaxing sitting in the lodge admiring the lake and the bird life.

Date of stay: 27th February 2015
The lodges were beautiful, spotless clean. They were 18 months old, very modern and had everything you wanted. The site was very quiet but we went in February and was what we wanted. The only down side was over night when it rained, we could hear the water dripping down the down pipe off the roof. First night it drove us mad, we solved it by slipping the bottom section of the down pipe off and putting it back before we left! But we won't tell them that!
Sara, Liverpool
Date of stay: 27th February 2015
The lodge had everything we were told it would, if is such a great size. Everything was spotlessly clean. It was comfortable and was lovely to come back to after a day out doing touristy things!

A home from home. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped, plenty of space and all the conveniences you would expect in a top class lodge. Even provided our dog with food bowls, towels and a blanket! Lovely view of the lake through the patio doors.
Oliver, Gloucester
Date of stay: 9th February 2015
The accommodation was everything that was required: warm, well furnished, spacious for the most part and with all mod-cons and amenities that you really need. The hot tub was a real bonus that has been sorely missed since our departure!

The only criticism would be the size of the second bedroom. This wasn't really a problem for my girlfriend and I as it didn't really get used for anything other than storage space for bags; however, it would be cramped to say the least if another two adults were to use it.
Jan, Merseyside
Date of stay: 9th February 2015
Excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and this lodge was 1st class. Everything was of a very good standard and it had proper leather suites rather than those that just look good but have low backs and aren't comfortable at all. Beds were comfortable and the lodge was lovely and warm. Kitchen and equipment which included washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and tea towels was of a very good standard. A second shower, over the bath, would be a bonus.
Michael, Rochdale

Everything was there that we needed.... and more! Very well laid out lodge and we used the hot tub every day. Although an expensive addition the hot tub was well worth the luxury especially as we didnt have to do a thing apart from open the lid and get in! One thing that would have been nice - the neighbouring lodge had control of the light which shone in the trees - one night they switched it off, so our hot tubbing that night didnt have the view - but that wouldnt put us off from staying in this lodge again.

Lovely lodge in gorgeous surroundings with only a 5 minute drive into keswick. Interior of lodge very warm and comfortable, my only complaint would be the very slippy steps up to the lodge. Needs rubber matting to ensure safety in wet or icy weather!

Cobwebs on light fittings and a few lights not working, but generally well kept and like new in places. Recommend a little more info in the guide in the lodge, like how far some of the place and shop, no distances in miles or time on how far from the lodges, ok if you have a satnav.

Fantastic lodge. Bed was a little bit lumpy, but that may have been a personal complaint, due to how firm/soft you prefer the mattress.

Our lodge was one which allowed us to take our dog.we thought the furnishing were slightly tired (possibly because pets were allowed)but the main thing was that there is far too much furniture in the lounge making it seem very cluttered with liittle room to move around.

Fun Days Out near Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges

about 1 Mile
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
about 17 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.

This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.

Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

about 34 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
about 37 Miles
Here at the Wildlife Oasis you can really get up close to the animals and experience a mix of exotic wildlife and hand son displays.  See butterflies, birds and even bats flying around.  You don't have to plan your visit according to weather either with the tropical hall and butterfly house undercover.  Sunny days are ideal for some of the inhabitants however with the monkeys and Lemurs loving to sunbathe.  The mission of Lakeland's Wildlife Oasis is to engender and foster an interest and appreciation of the natural world which, in our belief underpins wildlife conservation; and, where possible to contribute and encourage contribution to the conservation of wildlife and wild places.  You know that you are helping with this mission if you choose to visit.

Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
