These stylish lakeside lodges sit in a beautifully unspoilt part of the Lake District on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, with gorgeous views over stunning countryside and a multitude of walks right on the doorstep. The pretty market towns of Keswick, Cockermouth and Ambleside are all within easy driving distance.

You can go fishing or take a private boat on the lake if you fancy a tranquil day on the water. There are plenty of good pubs and restaurants close by - we love Overwater Hall in Cumbria (AA recognised) and the 16th century Priest Hole restaurant in Ambleside - it serves Mediterranean and English food, freshly prepared daily.

All the lodges at Bassenthwaite are superbly styled and extremely comfortable and some sit right at the water's edge with amazing views over the lake. Lakeland Lodge Plus sleeps six people and has French doors that open out onto a patio with private hot tub, perfect for warm, relaxing evenings.

Carlisle Castle is well worth a visit; built originally in 1092, it's where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. As well as the many water sports that the Lakes are renowned for (head to Windermere for waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and canoeing).

"Lodge was lovely"
Thomas - Apr 2025
"We had a great experience and definitely plan to book with them again soon."
Tom - Apr 2025
"We stayed over the weekend for my partners 40th and Mothers Day. The lodge was spotlessly clean and really well equipped. The scenery was breathtaking and the staff couldnt have been friendlier. Weve already booked to come back-thanks for an amazing break!"
Emma Clarke - Apr 2025
"Our Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges review: Fantastic location right next to lake and fields for walking the dogs."
David - Mar 2025
"Great spot for dog walks, right next to the lake and fields. Lovely!"
James - Mar 2025
"Everything was great from start to finish lovely location the lodge was clean tidy and plenty of room for 6 and the hut tub topped it off"
Clare - Mar 2025
"We booked a couple of nights in February at this lodge and honestly, it was a lovely experience. The spot is tucked away in a peaceful area with a beautiful view over the lake, which makes it perfect for escaping the hustle. The lodge itself was spotless and really well equipped - everything we needed was there. The highlight, though, had to be the decking area; such a great place to relax and soak in the scenery. The staff on reception were super friendly and even let us check in early since our lodge was ready, which was a nice surprise. When we checked out, the guy we spoke to (probably the site manager or owner) was really welcoming and asked about our stay, especially since we were only the third guests in that new lodge. Overall, we had a fantastic time and definitely want to come back!"
Jamie - Feb 2025
"Nice lodge that suited us well, we're not hot tub fans! Nicely furnished and good facilities at a very good price and a view of the lake."
Colin - Feb 2025
"We had such a lovely stay at this cosy place, tucked away in a really peaceful spot. The owners were genuinely friendly and always happy to help if we needed anything, but it still felt private enough to relax fully. The hot tub was a real highlight after a long day of cycling, absolutely perfect! A little thing to note though - the cottage is right under Stansted's flight path, so there's quite a bit of aircraft noise. It took us a couple of hours to get used to it, but honestly, it didnt ruin our holiday at all!"

"We had a lovely stay at this charming cottage, tucked away on a working farm but still very private. Robert and Sharon are such warm, welcoming hosts, making us feel at home right away. The place is super spacious with everything you need in the kitchen and bathroom and the bed was truly comfy! The garden is perfect for dogs, totally secluded with nice furniture. Plenty of walks nearby and Thaxted has some cracking restaurants like The Star and The Maypole-definitely worth a visit. Wed happily recommend it!"

"The lodge is in an awesome location. We were literally 60 seconds away from the lake which our Siberian Husky loved. Keswick is 10 minutes away in the car & Dodds Wood is just over a mile away - well worth a visit to both. The Cumbrian Coast is only 30 minutes drive. The accommodation was fantastic - very well appointed. Great unexpected extras /treats on arrival for us & our dog - nice touch which really makes the difference. Staff all great & very helpful. All in all a great break in an excellent location. I would absolutely recommend."

Attractions Near Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 1 Mile
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 17 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 19 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 30 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 33 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 34 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 37 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
