Avon Wood Reviews

"The place was spotless and well looked after and we felt so welcomed from the moment we arrived. Highly recommend!"
Emma - Oct 2024
"We had such a lovely stay! Christine and Andrew really know how to make you feel at home, with super comfy and spotless lodges. The Retreat was perfect, rain or shine - it didnt spoil a thing. Loved the laminated guides with local tips, very handy! The hot tub was a highlight and the decor felt boutique-like - really special. Cant wait to return, honestly. Its one of the best getaways weve had in ages!"
Emma - Oct 2024
"Great experience"
Emma - Aug 2024
"The lodge was warm, welcoming and had all the comforts we could ask for. Great stay!"
Emma Carter - Jul 2024
"Our Avon Wood review: We really enjoyed our stay at this lodge. Its spotlessly clean and super comfy, which made everything feel relaxing. The large deck was a highlight, with nice outdoor furniture and plenty of space for my hammock. The kitchen was well-stocked, perfect for cooking full meals and the dining area was great for meals and games. The bathrooms were modern and had good showers too. Wed definitely come back!"
Emma - Jul 2024
"The lodge was really lovely, super clean and fresh, with everything we needed in the cupboards for cooking and cleaning. The toiletries in the bathroom were a nice touch and we honestly couldnt get enough of that stunning view!"
Emma and Liam - Jun 2024
"We stayed in this spacious lodge with a hot tub, which was lovely and very comfortable. The hot tubs design was a bit odd, maybe because we're getting older... We do prefer proper seats in our tubs, though!"
Emma - May 2024
"We recently stayed at Avon Wood and honestly, it was such a lovely experience. The lodge was spotlessly clean and looked stunning, with views that really took our breath away. After a long day of hiking up the hills, relaxing in the hot tub was just perfect - we definitely made good use of it! The welcome pack on arrival was a nice touch, very thoughtful. This was our first trip to the Lake District and we loved it so much that weve already booked to come back in April. The location is quite remote, around ten minutes drive from the main spots, but thats exactly what we wanted-peace and quiet. Oh and at the bottom of the park, you can easily access the lake from a tiny slipway, which was adorable. Definitely bring your kayaks if you can, its worth it. The hosts were lovely too. We highly recommend Avon Wood!"
Jamie - Nov 2023
"Great spot to unwind after a busy day out exploring."
Emma Harris - Nov 2023
"Looking forward to next year, really enjoyed the experience!"
James Turner - Nov 2023
"We stayed at this lodge recently and honestly, its stunning! The location is just breathtaking, surrounded by such a peaceful setting. The facilities were spot on, everything we needed was there and the welcome pint of milk was a lovely touch-perfect for that first cuppa after a long drive. Christine was really helpful beforeh and, making sure we knew what to pack and what to leave behind, which was a big help. The spa was a real treat, especially after a day of walking; slipping into it was perfect. The only downside is that you definitely need a car since there are no footpaths nearby. We did manage a quick walk around the site, but it was pretty short. Wed definitely return and recommend to others!"
Sam - Nov 2023
"We had such a chilled-out break in this gorgeous lodge! It was super comfy and stocked with everything we could possibly need. The hot tub was a real highlight and those little treats in the fridge were a lovely surprise. Honestly, we can't think of a single negative - it was just a fantastic getaway and the weather was perfect too!"
Emma - Nov 2023
"Overall, we had a lovely stay. The location was spot on for exploring the lakes and the welcome pack with prosecco and chocolates was such a nice surprise! The only thing wed suggest is offering mattress toppers since the bed was a bit firm for us."
Jamie Carter - Nov 2023
"Absolutely loved our stay! The location was stunning and the accommodation exceeded all our expectations. Highly recommend!"
Mark - Nov 2023
"Weve just come back from another stay at Avon Wood, our fourth visit now and its still fantastic! The lodge is well-equipped and always spotless. Christine and Andrew are super friendly and really helpful. Honestly, wed recommend Avon Wood to anyone looking for a relaxing break. Thanks again!"

Attractions Near Avon Wood

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Avon Wood. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 10 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 10 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 13 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 15 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 16 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 28 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Bowland Wild Boar Park - PR3 2QT
about 31 Miles
Head for the Bowland Wild Boar park and we don't think you will be disappointed.  A popular attraction in Preston there is so much to do for the whole family.  From picnics, walks and wildlife to experiencing feeding the animals you are sure to have a memorable day out.  Also popular is the kids tractor play area.  For rest and relaxation the cafe is ideal serving hot drinks and snacks with a lovely view over the pond and wildlife feeding station.  The Forest of Bowland has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
