Things to do

With a rich history of famous residents and historic architecture, Beccles is a fascinating place to explore. St Michael’s Church is a stunning feat of 16th Century architecture, the 97-feet tall bell tower the perfect place for a picture. Learn about the area’s heritage at Beccles and District Museum, only a short walk from the church. Intriguing collections from historical local industries and a geological display about the river makes this a fascinating visit.

The River Waveney travels alongside the town, making for the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll. Alternatively, discover the river by hiring a boat or a canoe. There are beautiful views from many Suffolk lodges of the countryside along the way.

The town hosts an eclectic mix of independent stores, ranging from designer fashion shops to quirky gift stores. In the evening, see a show at Beccles Public Hall, or visit for a low-key pub quiz or film screening.

Places to eat

Bailey’s Delicatessen is a café which guests can visit at all times of the day, whether that’s for a warming breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or simply for cake and a coffee. Another great place for a coffee is Quaff East Coffee, which also serves freshly-baked pastries and bagels alongside incredible cakes. Enjoy an afternoon sweet treat in the sun in the garden at Twyfords Café.

In the evening, have a traditional pub meal in the cosy Angel Inn, only a 20-minute drive from the centre. The meals are beautifully crafted, transforming classic dishes into something new with exciting flavours and ingredients. The King’s Head in town is a family-friendly pub in town, and has a great selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Wine Vaults Restaurant and Bar is the best choice to warm up in front of the fire with a drink on a cold day. Their dishes are sourced by local produce so are guaranteed to be delicious.
