Griffon Forest Reviews

"Relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings"
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"Excellent lodge -perfect for a family stay near to York and all it has to offer. Lovely to see and be amongst all the wildlife and some lovely walks nearby (be careful in the wet areas- after all the rain wellies definitely required!!"
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"Very clean and tidy, everything you need is in the lodge, staff very friendly and helpful if there is any problem."
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"wow absolutely the most stunning location ever seeing badgers was unbelievable, wildlife galore, hand feeding squirrels stunning lodges, beautiful place can not recommend enough, seeing badgers was the most beautiful thing ever"

"Fab break lovely lodge"
Elaine - Mar 2024
"Lodge had all that I needed"
Verified Guest - Mar 2024
"First time in a Gardeners lodge, we stayed in no.26. Lovely lodge, all the essentials inside and a lovely bottle of Cava and continental choccies waiting for us. So warm and cosy inside, spotlessly clean and plenty of fresh towels and bath robes for us to use. Nice little welcome pack of tea/coffee/milk and some packs of biscuits. Tea towels and oven gloves and some cleaning stuff to get you started. The hot tub was up to temperature and a delight to sit in with a drink. You have great walks in the forest and Tykes Restaurant and sports bar is 10 minutes away which is lovely for lunch or dinner or just a drink. You get 10% off if you show your key. But what really makes this place for us is the wildlife. Amazing!!! Birds galore, they do eat a lot, cheeky squirrels who will come to the window for food and we got a visit from the badger every night! Love it. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back."
Kirsty - Mar 2024
"Fantastic place to stay"
Andrew Luinen - Mar 2024
"Cabin inside was lovely and clean however the front door was covered in bird poo. Windows could do with a clean"
Nicola - Feb 2024
"The cabins are recently refurbished & are gorgeous inside with open plan kitchen, living room & dining room. There are modern appliances in the kitchen including a large fridge freezer, oven, hob, microwave & dishwasher. The beds are comfortable with fresh white linen & a theres a fab bathroom with a bath on one side plus walk in shower on the other. There is rear doors leading to enclosed decking, ideal for children or dogs. The hot tubs are lovely & very private surrounded by trees - already set up for use on arrival & checked by staff regularlyduring your stay. Lots of wildlife with a variety of birds, rabitts & squirrels. I would recommend buying some bird food & nurs from reception & you're guaranteed to have some friendly visitors. There is a shop at reception & Sandburn Hall is a short walk away with resteraunt, bar & golf facilities."
Tracey - Feb 2024
"The cabin itself was of a very high standard. Everything worked. It was spacious and child friendly. The hose for our wellies, washing machine and tumble dryer made a February muddy break easy to manage. The wine and chocolates, robes etc were lovely touches."
Emma - Feb 2024
"First time we have booked a premier and I will struggle to go back to a regular now."
Louise - Feb 2024
"Very relaxing"
Ray - Feb 2024
"Beautiful place to stay. The lodge was lovely and clean with everything we could ask for. The forest had great walks for the dogs and we loved the wildlife around the property"
Jennifer - Jan 2024
"Beautiful Lodge with all the facilities you need.Very clean. We will definitely come back."
Nikky - Jan 2024
"Excellent, 2nd time visiting many more to come"
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Just come back from a weekend at Griffon Forest. We go to a lot of lodges and this one by far is my favourite. It is situated in the middle of a forest so you see a lot of wildlife when you go on a walk. The lodge is well equipped in the kitchen and love the fact you have a little utility room. Its very quiet on the site which is total bliss. Griffon Forest is my happy place!"
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Fabulous place to stay. We stayed in a poachers lodge designed for couples. There was a free bottle of Prosecco when we arrived, the lodge was modern and had everything we needed. The hot tub and jacuzzi were fantastic. Lots of little walks and a golf club with restaurant are just next to the site. The staff were also really helpful and the condition of the lodge was immaculate. I would recommend this place to anyone"
Matthew - Jan 2024
"Really enjoyed our stay. The lodge was fabulous surrounded by a beautiful forest. We would definitely like to come again. The only slight negative is the arrival time - not being able to get into the lodge until 4.30pm on the Friday then having to leave Sunday at 9.30am makes it quite expensive as you only have one day."
Dellanie - Jan 2024
"Lovely family weekend away, lodge was spotless, everything you could need for a fabulous weekend away."
Beverley - Jan 2024
"The bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen in the lodge were good but the living area really needs new furniture. The sofas were very worn and not comfortable to sit on.The dining table and chairs have also seen better days. The lodge was very warm and the heating was easy to control.Unfortunately there were a lot of works going on around the site while we were there and although we were informed a few weeks before our break it did impact our stay more than we expected. The works went on for most of the day and was noisy so we couldnt relax in the lodge. On our last day the checkout time was 9.30 and we had workmen on our drive at 9.15 waiting to tarmac it."
Shaun - Jan 2024
"Griffon Forrest is one of our favourite retreats and we return annually as we love it that much. It has got rather expensive over the years but in our opinion its worth it!! Fantastic lodges and location with great service to match! Very highly recommended!!"
Simon - Jan 2024
"Lovely big lodge. Traditional, but very comfortable. Large en-suite bedrooms at the opposite end from each other. Number 54 is near the Tykes trail & a 10 minute walk to the hotel."
Carmel - Jan 2024
"a real luxury get away. fantastic for 2 couples with the 2 ensuite double rooms.very clean and well equipt. this was our third visit and already looking at next one. its so peaceful you really think your the only ones in the forest"
carol barker - Jan 2024
"Enjoyed a great winter break in the forest.Positives - Lovely setting in forest. Lots of squirrel friends.Large and comfortable chalet. Hot tub was fantastic.Just 20 minutes drive into heart of York. All the basics you need in chalet.Comfortable bed.Very private.Access to hotel, restaurant, bar.Smart TV.Easy check in/check out.Friendly staff.NegativesChalet starting to feel a little worn and tired.Car is essential. Long walk to facilities if you have any mobility problems. Spa bath very shallow.Recycling/waste area very poorly set up. Overflowing and only able to recycle glass.Interior lighting quite low.Would recommend this site overall."
Jayne - Jan 2024
"Spacious lodge with fabulous hot tub.Very comfy sofas and beds. Power shower too.Large kitchen and big fridge/freezer. Lodge 47 was a great location. Not overlooked. Some of the furniture was a bit worn, broken door handles, etc. but it was a very comfortable lodge and great being dog-friendly."
Nicola - Dec 2023
"New sofas needed."
Verified Guest - Nov 2023
"Perfect Lodge"
Ami - Nov 2023
"Beautiful lodge with luxury size bath and hot tub , beautiful surroundings , plenty of wildlife including badgers at night .only left down was time checking in which is 4.30 which I think its to late as its very dark outside and so really you only have 3 full days there .. would be nice to get about 3pm ."
Paula - Nov 2023
"We stayed in a Keepers pet friendly in July. It was amazing!! The lodge was huge, very clean and had everything you needed from a dishwasher to a washing machine and tumble dryer. The hot tub was outstanding and checked every morning by staff. The site is very clean and quite. The driveway into the sight is stunning and houses so much wildlife. The walks around the park are amazing too and we saw so many deer and foxes. They have wildlife cameras that you can watch on the TV in the lodges. We hired bikes too, it very good value for money and very easy to do. The staff were fantastic. You are out of the way of any supermarkets but can get a delivery to site and there are some stunning towns to visit not far from site. Whitby is about an hour drive. We absolutely loved our holidays. We will definitely be booking next year. It was one of the best sites we have ever stayed in."
Zoe - Aug 2022
"A perfect location for visiting York. The lodge was really clean, luxuriously comfortable and well equipped. The forest setting was relaxing and the sister hotel was a convenient short walk away. Superb."

Paula - Jul 2022
"Great, been coming here for 19 years and still happy to return"
Paula - Jul 2022
"We stayed at Cherry Tree Barn and it was absolutely beautiful, gorgeous surrounding areas. The barn was very clean and very big, 3 good sized bedrooms. We did a woodland walk with our dog it was about an hour and it took you to Sandburn Hall. Tykes restaurant is also at Sandburn Hall and it is definitely worth a visit, the food was excellent and the staff are a credit to the restaurant, all were extremely helpful and friendly. We will definitely visit again in the near future."
Dawn - Jul 2022
"Had a lovely time. Was heatwave first day so no need for hot tub,acd tub would have been better, Lol. could have done with air con or fans that day. But a lovely time and the best WiFi set up with smart TV. Great. Ps be aware the WiFi logs you out and you have to search again to reconnect every so often but inly when you have bit used for a while. A wee squirrel visitor came to see us every day on the patio. Bring the citronella candles though as you are in a forest. Not many midgies but horseflys. Great location for York and Scarborough."
Fiona - Jul 2022
"Great place so tranquil and relaxing. Amazing setting and perfect for dog walks, bike trails and walks. Really great log cabin and all the amenities you need."
Micheal - Jul 2022

This animal farm has all the cute farm animals you would expect to see and will appeal to younger children especially.  A great place to both play and learn we think the Betton Farm Visitor centre is great value for money.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs.  Some of the highlights of the day might include meeting Sofie the Shetland Pony and Henry the goat, as well as the pot bellied pigs called Porky and Hammy.

There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.
