Whitbarrow Reviews

"Our family vacation here is one to remember. We had so much to do in the time we stayed here. The facilities were amazing. Sauna, swimming pool, hot tub in our apartment were all enjoyable . The kids played crazy golf, fed the ducks and played giant chess and It kept them occupied for long. The surrounding area was surreal."
Adeola - Aug 2025
"We had an amazing weekend here! The place was just what we needed and we really enjoyed our stay. The garden was perfect for the dogs and they couldnt get enough of the underfloor heating - Luna was wagging her tail like crazy all weekend! Honestly, the pups were happier than us. Well definitely be returning soon!"
Pauline - Mar 2025
"We loved exploring the charming village theyve built here. The Skiddow was really close to the car park and main areas like reception, restaurant and bar, which was super convenient. The cottage was spotless, roomy and cosy. The kitchen had all the basics. Overall, a great stay-well be back for sure!"
Emma Carter - Jan 2025
"Lovely village they have created the Skiddow wasn't far from the car park or other the main reception, restaurant and bar area. The cottage was clean, spacious and warm. The kitchen was a good size and had basic equipment for those wanting the carer for themselves. Was a lovely experience and would definitely go back"

"Great place, would return"
Paul - Jul 2024
"We had an absolutely lovely stay here and definitely plan to return. The Troutbeck cabin was super cosy and really well stocked with everything we needed for cooking, though we did have to use scissors for pizza since there wasnt a cutter! The layout was pretty unique - all the bedrooms are downstairs and the living space is upstairs, which gave it a bit of an upside-down feel. The main living area was warm and inviting, perfect for relaxing after a day out. Inside, everything was spotless and the beds were really comfy, making it easy to unwind. The location is quite remote, which we actually enjoyed for the peace and quiet, though Penrith isnt exactly nearby for shops - its a bit of a drive. On the plus side, there were some tea bags, coffee and milk sachets waiting for us, so we could have hot drinks right away. The only minor thing was that the hot tub access is through the patio doors in the main bedroom, but honestly, it didnt really bother us. We had a cracking time and would definitely come back!"
Ellie - Apr 2024
"We really enjoyed our stay! The place was spacious and had a lovely, relaxing vibe. Only tiny gripe was the TV - couldnt get it to connect to Wi-Fi or Netflix, but honestly, that didnt matter much since we werent there to binge. Still, a small inconvenience!"
Julia - Apr 2024
"Great experience, highly recommend"
Rachel - Mar 2024
"We just got back from a really nice four-night stay at this cottage. The owners are super friendly but not at all intrusive, which was perfect. The big fenced garden was great for our dog to run around freely. The place had everything we needed, including a well-stocked kitchen and a BBQ for one evening. The hot tub was definitely a highlight! Wed happily come back and already told friends about it. Thanks for a lovely time!"
Charlotte - Feb 2024
"Great spot, totally relaxing and refreshing"
George - Oct 2023
"We absolutely loved our weekend here! Perfect for a peaceful anniversary getaway, everything we needed was provided."

"It's the first time for us there and we will be back very enjoyable Staff were fabulous thank you ?"
Joan - Aug 2022
"Excellent setup and location in need of balconies painting and restaurant closed 2 days, which we understand due to short taff in the kitchen but the bar could of been open. All in we have stayed 10 times and will make it 11 then 12+"
Gary - Jul 2022
"We stayed in Caldew 1, myself, my husband and two children aged 7 and 11. The contact free check in worked very well. I arranged an online shop for an hour after we arrived at reception. This was great but next time would meet the van in the guest car park as there is more space. The lodge was well equipped and very clean. The children used the swimming pool twice a day which was fantastic. Our hot tub was serviced every day and we had lots of fun using that. Places I would recommend a visit to with children are - Lowther Castle (huge adventure play area), Aira Force (the kids played in the stream for hours), and Brougham Castle. We packed lunches everyday which saved money. A big thank you to the reception staff at Whitbarrow Village who worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. My daughter particularly enjoyed feeding the ducks with the food you gave her"
Liane - Jul 2022
"Staff were very kind and attentive. The entire place is spotless"
Nikola - Jul 2022
"We had a fantastic few nights Surroundings are stunning as is the accommodation and facilities. Very calming place and lots for the kids. We really enjoyed the pool which was spotlessly clean. The staff were lovely and so helpful at the main reception. Food in the restaurant was delicious. We would return tomorrow ?"
Joanne - Jul 2022
"Great holiday super facilities"
David - Jun 2022
"We stayed in one of the ullswater apartments and it was fab...Nice spacious room, well equipped little kitchenette with hob sink and microwave oven large spacious bathroom, good shower. The site had lovely outdoor areas and plenty to keep kids amused mini golf and the swimming pool were a big hit. Great location for exploring the lakes really easy to get to everywhere. Would definitely stay again!"
Kelly - Jun 2022
"I’m absolutely delighted about staying there just feeling Sad because we stayed there too short…4 night definitely too short. We will back next year ??"

Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US

This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 12 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 13 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 17 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 32 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 38 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 39 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT
about 39 Miles
Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
